It’s clear that nothing significant will happen. Many people still believe America is the “land of the free,” which is quite ironic. After reading several comments, I've noticed something that's being missed. He took his items to checkout, paid for the purchase and was exiting the store. If he was not welcome at Walmart why did the clerk accept his money and provide a receipt? When I worked in retail, I would help bikers all the time and not be concerned. I would always think they'd wear it inside because it'd be a pain to carry it around in the store and they probably didn't want to leave it outside to possibly get stolen. There are many employer (particularly those in security) that won't hire anyone that's been arrested, regardless of the circumstances. That's especially true when there's a long list of applicants and they need to thin the stack. People also don't tend to consider corruption in the police force, they just think you're guilty but just got off on some technicality. What makes matters worse is this type of thing never goes away. There is no witness error or police corruption caption, so you can be explaining yourself for the rest of your life. The arrest becomes an immediate public headline, but not your clearance. That's a major fault in the criminal justice system that people don't seem to take into consideration. The CJS needs to be overhauled, and these false arrests should follow the cops and become an immediate publicly accessible document so that they don't get to just walk away free and clear after something like this.

Retired LEO here - I never took the job personally, and I never thought of myself as having the right to chastise people just because of my job - I treated everybody with dignity. Human beings are not perfect, we ALL screw up sometimes, but screwing up or doing something silly is not grounds for getting arrested or being berated by the police. Yes, and, though he isn't allowed to physically touch the guy, the manager could've been more aggressive with his attempts to get the shopper's attention; such as, waiving his arms in front of the guy's face, like an air traffic controller, etc. What if the the kid was legally deaf? Does this manager, not serve deaf customers? And nowadays, with everyone waking around wearing earbuds, talking to someone on the phone, who's not even present, and managers in wireless communication with employees, it not only makes perfect sense that the guy didn't think he was being addressed personally, but modern technology, requires a change in our approach and response to others in society. It took the longest time for me to get used to people in stores, talking wirelessly on their phones. I kept thinking they were taking to me, until I realized they were on Bluetooth. Now I, and all of society are programmed to go about minding our own business, assuming that anyone speaking, is on Bluetooth. Used to be, that if someone was speaking in your presence, yet not directly talking to you, they were assumed to be talking to themselves, and were deemed mentally unstable. Oh, how times have changed. Trespass laws require that a person be informed of their trespassing infraction. This guy didn't notice the manager addressing him, nor did he hear him speaking...the shopper therefore, remained uninformed. It's really sad that we live in an age, when we cannot seem to offer a benefit of the doubt to a fellow human being. This guy, is clearly a mild-mannered, typical young guy, oblivious to his surroundings and his own impact on, and responsibility within the context of recent events & societal concerns. He's totally focused on the task at hand, and getting to work on time. I don't see him as a threat; I see him as a kid who may need to get his head out of the clouds, and who should really be afforded some authoritative instruction, that would serve him well in the future. Unfortunately, what resulted here, only serves to encourage this young guy, to justifiably remain self-centered, and inwardly focused. A simple warning, would've gone a long way toward the kid's maturing process, and made him a better citizen, and all-around person, in the long run.

Cops in general talk to anyone this way when they are "on the job". The feel the badge gives them these immense powers of insight, and logic, and law that they should lecture other adults as if they were children over what could best be described in most cases as really benign breaches of the law.

It just dawned on me that Walmart is 100% at Fault.... yet emotions were running high from the recent shootings.... However ask yourself these questions: Is wearing a helmet in public illegal..... Yes / No Is listening to music (on a headset) allowed in public..... Yes/No Where there ANY physical signs posted at the entrance stating that masks must be removed.... Yes/No What about the physical signs stating that listening to music in Walmart is Not Allowed.... Yes/No Guess what Boys and Girls... if you answered NO to those Simple questions.... Then Huston, we have a Problem! The Walmart Manager and Police Should Face some sort of lasting punishment. Write up Everyone and put into their work records. The dude was Tacky for wearing the helmet... don't lie to yourself. But tacky is NOT breaking the law. His Rights were Violated and I hope he Profits financially from this experience.

I suspect the cop was being insulting in order to provoke the suspect thereby giving the cop an excuse to do a beat down on the citizen. He strikes as the type who get his jollies from that.

@@Privat2840 yep. This exact thing happened to me in West Virginia. They tried to provoke me because I wouldn’t let them search my car. They then “shark attacked” me inside a McDonalds while I was eating after the encounter was already “over.” Surrounded me. Several of them yelling at me. I just put my hands up, stood my ground. Didn’t raise my voice. Ultimately if we were outside the McDonalds I would have been screwed. But the cameras inside kept them from full beat down. They stole the keys out of my pocket. Searched and took my car. I went to the chief the next day and the chief apologized and ripped up the ticket. It was scary.

power tripping meatheads is why. Both the manager and the cop wanted to assert their authority and whenever they met any form of resistance they escalated the situation. All the store manager had to do was tap the gentlemen on the shoulder to avoid the entire situation but he WANTED to get the man arrested for seemingly ignoring his commands.
