This was the best interpretation of Charlotte Bronte, "Jane Eyre" I ever have seen and nothing else can compare to other movies or series. My favorite book since I was a teenager and still love Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre." I love Timothy Dalton as Rochester who playful exchange with Jane is wonderfully performed.

Here's the thing about Tim as Rochester, yes he is quite handsome but his is this rough beauty that reminisces of book Rochester's making him the most accurate protrayal of Rochester
@ffeff83534 жыл бұрын
Haha yes, he's far too handsome for Rochester, but as I've posted elsewhere, that was Charlotte Brontë's cleverness: she keeps telling us that Rochester is ugly, but when she finally gets around to describing him in detail (when Jane draws his portrait), what she describes seems like a rather good-looking man! Cheeky Charlotte...

This is the best Jane, her composure and facial expression , the sad-looking shape of her eyes. The black eyeliner is out of her character and habits, though, and too black-hard. Rochester being the unchallenged Master Of The House.. So aloof, but compare to later scenes, and you'll see how much he & their relationship develop and what a range Timothy Dalton has! He's brilliant, really. I always found that Zelah Clarke was good, but could have been better. As Jane she has to be correct and show little emotion in this scene, but Zelah doesn't even show emotion when she's alone by the piano, when nobody can see her. This would have been an opportunity for her to show the viewers how she feels about Rochester's rudeness, but instead she seems almost like a machine..
@TheGeekMonster6 жыл бұрын
I can't stand Zelah for this part. She's far too cold and has no depth of emotion at all. Even in later scenes, like the "goodbye" in the garden, she's quiet and broody, not desperate and heartbroken as Jane should be. Ruth Wilson mastered that scene in the 2006 version.

I believe all versions were masterfully done, including this one. But no other actors had the chemistry of Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens in the 2006 BBC version. The 1997 version (Samantha Morton and Ciaran Hinds; not accurate to the book but they have great chemistry). 4. The 1973 version (Michael Jayston has the funny, flirty side to Rochester down). This is when it gets difficult for me 5. Either the 2011 version or the 1996 version (both pretty flat in my opinion but Michael Fassbender does a good enough job). 6. The 1943 version (I mean really but Orson Welles has brilliant onscreen presence and his voice is dreamy). 7. The 1970 version (enough said on that one).
