My chickens will not use the dust bath I put in for them. How do I get them using it ?

How often do you replenish the DE and wood ash?

We put ashes in a tire for a dust bath. They would stand on the tire and look at it. Two days later it rained, now the hens stand on it to stay away from the rooster just like they do on the kids riding toys and slides n stuff we have in their pens and runs. It definitely needs to be in a dry location. We try to keep them happy!

You don’t need to put soil in the dust bath, I usually just put DE and Wood ash. The most important ingredient in the dust bath is either DE or Wood ash, because that is what kills the mites and fleas and things off of the chickens.

The only ash that is safe to use is from clean burnt wood.
