if u a live in a place where theres snow many months of the yr, a dust bath is a must for your chicken. Never throw out the ash from your fires, mix ash with sand: perfect dust bath.

i will also recommend the use of paper traps near the perches. it is just folded paper. check it every now and then and you will always know if the mites are there.

I use ash all the time, they love it, throw some dried herbs on top and they will gaurenteed love it

I’ve tried a rubber tub and a small Rubbermaid box for dust baths and my chickens STILL prefer to dig their own. Now I just make a couple depressions and sprinkle in a little sand and diatomaceous earth they can mix in with Louisiana swamp dirt that they love so much.

What kind of chickens do you have? There’s a chicken that visits our yard for a dust bath. She’s like the neighborhood chicken. We have no idea who her owner is but she kinda resembles your chickens. I have been trying to determine her breed but haven’t had any luck.
