I take a look at Audyssey and using negative EQ to see if there's any way to improve clarity by never using a positive gain.

ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Carl, and I run a family-owned business called HD MOVIE SOURCE with my dad, Glen, and my brother, Mark. I'm a passionate movie fan and tech enthusiast, and I love talking about the quality of video transfers. Calibrating speakers and subwoofers, encoding 4K content, and exploring all things techy are all my favorite things to do. I'm also a big gamer, and World of Warcraft takes up a lot of my time, but hey, someone's gotta do it!

Carl, Thanks for the videos. Super fun to learn new capabilities with my audio gear. Question, if you adjust SPL on the first speaker to get negatives, would you need to use the same SPL adjustment for each speaker? Edit: I see the part about auto-leveling, but that is only in Mult Eq X software, right? it won't do this auto-leveling in the app?

You would have to make sure each speaker is balanced yes so they're equal. I actually turn off auto levelling in Audyssey now because I do it in REW.

I was curious if you think the UMIK 2 is actually better than UMIK 1 for what we are trying to do with these measurements?

I just noticed instantly that treble sound much better using a UMIK2.

Possibly a dumb question. Dolby recommends setting spl to 79db but of course most people say 75db. Does this make a difference? Is the main point just getting them to the same value? Thanks for your videos.

Yes, balance is the most important thing. whether its 4db more, in my opinion makes no difference.

@@hdmoviesource interesting enough I tried today to recalibrate to 79db and it did make a noticeable difference. I’m not sure what’s going on but the dynamic range seemed to increase to my ears. I’m not sure why it would do that, I assumed it would only be a difference in volume.

@@adamATOM3 That is interesting. I'll have to do some research on this.
