Auf wiedersehen pet location.Our visit to Thornely manor 2017

A massive thanks to the owners of Beesthorpe Hall for allowing us to visit and photograph this iconic awp location.
It has been stressed on auf wiedersehen pet fan sites that this is a private family residence and the owner haa asked me to echo this in any future posts. Please don't go to the house uninvited. I'm sure all awp fans will understand.

I visited this house when the people who owned it during filming still had it. They were very welcoming and told us to feel free to take photos. Unfortunately phones didn't have cameras back then. They showed us a photo album of the filming, told us how Pat Roach crashed his car at the entrance, and took us round the back where the water pump seen in the series was STILL there. After that we visited the Windmill Inn aka The Barley Mow.

bramleybull Excellent... nice 1 my friend. Apparently the Matthews family were very welcoming, you were so lucky to meet them. I met mrs Mathews daughter in 2013 when they sold the house , but unfortunately the old lady had died some time before . The chap I met on this visit was brilliant, and he told us some great stories too. The old water pump IS still there . Iv featured it in this little video altho it is in need of some restoration . Take it easy my friend and thanks for looking .... ta ra for a bit

Been there myself around 2005, very nice family who owned it, very welcoming, showed us inside and around the property, also visited the pub, and all the other locations, I hope the new owners let people still visit if it's at a appropriate time that suits them, and they try and keep the house as original as possible, does anybody know why the original owners sold the property??

The Mathews family sold it when Mrs Mathews died around 2012 . I guess they sold cos the family had moved on . The new owners have made it very clear to us that fans are not to just turn up at the house. It's a private family home ,, The end .

Actually people can go on there property, there is a footpath that has access from the front gates, it's a public right of way leicestershirefootpaths.wordpress.com/our-favourite-walks/kirklington-caunton/

@@sen5908 .....I'm sure by now they'll av put a stop to that 🤷‍♂️. New gates and driveway have been added , and those gates are always closed now , where as they were always open.

tenodogblu Hi mate ,,, thanks for watching. We've had great fun visiting the locations and are still continuing cos there's still more UK 1s to do. We're not a club as such , just mainly fans who met thru the face book groups . I'm currently not on fb but will be back soon , and iv got another video in the making with more new locations . I'm heading to London in a couple of weeks and I need to get barrys warehouse s3 and the British consolate from s4. ... hopefully I'll manage to track them down and put them all together with others iv been getting this year , like the Falklands scene in opening of series 2. But if you ever think of going be aware the owners aren't really wanting people walking round without asking, altho you can drive to the gate. If you don't know its location, it's Beesthorpe Hall on the a616 between Ollerton and Newark.

Where is the house?? KZbin is on the blink tonight, you left me a comment but I can’t get to it for some reason. I’m from Buxton, you said that the trout fishing or should I say Pouching was in Youlgrave, I heard that they did some filming there years ago. I’ve not been to Youlgrave for many years, Wow I remember my brother buying a car from some garage there when I was young, it broke down on the way to Liverpool ....wow brings back some memories! ..... LOL I have often wondered where many of the scenes were filmed because Oz referred to Derbyshire. I was wondering where the Barley Wow pub was?? Is it a real pub?? Wow what can ya say about this TV show, one of the all time classics! I’ve almost been watching them all recently, then watching my favourites again ..... LOL I guess their is just so much BS on TV these days that you really appreciate the Fantastic stuff like this. It’s also really interesting for me because I’ve worked with similar guys over the years on construction sites in Spain and the U.K. The first 2 seasons were the best for me, I did like the others though like the bridge building in Arizona as I lived in America for 8 years. I Never seem to get bored of watching Return of the Seven, and many other from that series and of course all those in Germany! Series 3 and 4 and 5 were ok, but for me Not in the same league as 1 and 2 ......Wow they were Awesome!

Wow you certainly sound like a true awp fan . Lots of happy memories ehh. Yes Thornely Manor as we know it , Beesthorpe Hall in real life is at Caunton, on the A616 between Ollerton and Newark. Its easy to spot from the main road. The Barley Mow , is a real pub , and its called The Windmill, an thats on the main road in the small village of Redmile , Nottinghamshire. You can't miss it as you drive thru.

@@daniellancaster4419 Yer it was a fantastic series, especially the 1st and second, I watched a couple in Germany last night on U.K TV Play, only problem is I’ve noticed they have cut some out. And that kinda spoils some of it. I was wondering if the pub is the same of similar to that shown in the show? Reason I ask is, the bar in the TV series Cheers about the Boston Bar is totally different inside with the real bar, as to the one on set. The only resemblance is the staircase down into the bar, I first went into it in 1988. I think they had another Cheers bar in Boston that resembled it more, not sure what year that was opened but I think I read it was going to close .....Not sure why. I have an idea that people could have been unimpressed by it because as far as I know it did not have the staircase down into the bar. I think it was opened to try and cash in on the tourist, because it was a bigger bar so it could get more people in, the original bar was only small and I guess struggled to get people in, tourists Etc. I think the original bar is called the Bull & Finch. I bet many people will be disappointed when they go into it because it’s Nothing like the bar on the set of Cheers! It’s a Tiny bar, Nothing like the large bar on the set that people can walk around. The Only thing that resembles the bar in Cheers in the Staircase down into the bar. I bet many tourists are really disappointed when they go to see it.

@@daniellancaster4419 Yes it brings back loads of good memories over the years, I bet they had some great times making those! I often wonder if some of the episodes from the first and second are missing on U.K. TV, maybe it’s me wishing their were more .... LOL

Yeah I think popular opinion is that series 1&2 are the best , and I agree its a waste of time watching on uktv. The political correctness police have had a field day with awp , your best off streaming of daily motion , KZbin, or stick to the dvds. Well I don't want to disappoint you about the Barley mow , but only the exterior of it was used apart from 2 Close up shots of the inside of the front door. Once as moxey does a runner , and once when pringle opens it to be faced with a brick wall the lads left him as a going away present. The rest of the inside of the pub was filmed in a studio in Nottingham. Altho the layout is similar, its simply too small , and has low ceilings.
