There's a good picture of a Millwall chap out cold in the ground from this game. The old bender squad were a very game set of lads from Newcastle back in the day. Not many went to Millwall in numbers in those days. This was pre NME btw.

Been to 1,780 games, mostly Millwall, since 1962. Visited 84 Grounds from Carlisle down to Plymouyj but not "The Big 3" in The North East though. Never been involved in any trouble by a combination of luck, judgment, quick thinking, and instinct( a few close shaves though) lol Against Newcastle at The OLD Den on the 19th August,1978,I was on holiday so gave my season ticket to a mate who attended his one and only Millwall game. About 1,500 Geordies marched down Old Kent Road and one broke police lines, crossed the road, thumped him in the stomach, and returned to the Newcastle mob.😀😀

Funny story about this game. I was in HMP N'land and bumped into an old Newcastle lad. Absolutely stone mad. His name was Tim and he was finishing off a 25 year rec. in cat C. He was late 60's and told me of this Millwall game- first game of the season. He said it was carnage and all the loons from Newcastle were there. Turns out Tim was a loony too. One of the lads told me he had murdered his own mother and when he was collared by the old bill he had his mothers head in a Netto bag. He was sound but you could tell he was nuts as his face never showed any emotion. I never did ask him about his mother btw!!

The Forest game he mentioned was at St James Park, not the City Ground.

88...was at the Windsor and millwall swarmed all over a car that had scarfs hanging out the windows. Once the crowd had finished the car being newish looked like a scrap heap...and the poor sods inside didn't fair much better......silly really but those were the days. Much safer nowadays .

Complete rubbish. No one gets an easy time at Millwall. I would like to hear the comments. About the events at Newcastle station. Some years ago. When Millwall was completely Outnumbered

Not my recollections in 78 we had it away with some millwall on the way to the ground, they barracaded themselves in pub and we sent a fruit stall through the window after chinning a dozen or so outside we were kilted up eating raw meat in Soho and chasing Everton fans down the tunnels of the subway , altogether different tale from your narrators, we were even battling amongst worsels at the haymarket waiting for buses to go, bender squad, big lamp, nsab, wbab, nme, lbab, all there for the show, mental day, in Soho and the den.

8:21 ...Millwall in 78 was probably the biggest away group of all Ncle lads ( no scarfers) apart from Snland & Boro games...Ncle showed on New cross early doors and never gave a inch on the way to the ground even trying to get into pubs on the way there not once did we back off before, or after, in the ground it was all mouthing off ..one copper who i spoke to mentioned if they wanted to come over they could have but were wary of the game numbers who turned up afterwards it was all bricks & bottles from a distance...millwall showed at newcross after the game but never came near us as we stood and waited ...around london on the night we had a bigger set to with palace on the tube with them coming up the stairs and us coming down and it went of massive with neither side giving anything...

People talk about Boro a lot but Newcastle were no mugs - everytime I hear Millwall met a big team it seems they didn’t have it there own way - that is why West Ham are number 1 - they had the numbers and organisation - Millwall are brave - but when facing the bigger sides it’s a different story

93 Newcastle took a huge mob down to millwall and some started gathering at Liverpool street market word got around between various Newcastle groups that had made different ways down and we all met at white chapel we got on the tube but what we did was very clever because the police didn’t expect us one mob got on the tube to millwall and when they got off the police thort that was it but another mob followed later and the police weren’t expecting that Newcastle walked right down to the ground the police and millwall weren’t expecting it and millwall shit it we turned the corner into a street and charged them they didn’t wanna know and fair enough if people don’t wanna believe that I cudnt give a fuck but it’s the truth
