I saw Longlegs, Maxxxine and Oddity in one day. Never done a triple feature and it was so much gd fun. Then the next week there was Cuckoo and Strange Darling... so yea it was a good month. ...Just realized some were in July but whatever. Woot 😊

Damn that sounds like one hell of a fun day, Maxxxine was great. I haven't seen Longlegs or Oddity yet but I know enough about the first one to know that it's exactly my shit and I've heard almost nothing but solid to good reviews of Oddity. I have some free time this weekend and a horror triple feature sounds like the right thing to do.

At one of my local theaters they were showing a bunch of older movies from the 80s. I did a double feature, watching Gremlins from the 80s & then Longlegs immediately after. Went by myself & it was a great night
@tadeusticeghostal
@tadeusticeghostal 25 күн бұрын
@ricketygondola Surprisingly it wasn't too bad. I spaced them out throughout the day so I was able to take breaks and eat and all that. I saw Longlegs with my kids who love horror so that was great, Maxxxine was once of my most anticipated movies and then I went in completely blind for Oddity and that turned out to be my favorite of the three. Idk if there's ever going to be another time where there's three quality horror movies or movies in general that I'm interested in on one day so I'm glad I was able to have that experience. Definitely recommend. Lol

@thebookgeek87 Yea I love seeing the classics in the theater. I think it's so cool that they're doing that so often now. Back in the day that was such a rarity to be able to catch those movies on the big screen. Now there's always some classic playing.

Cuckoo makes me so happy in so many ways. It's rare to see a good German movie and even rarer to see it get international attention, let alone at this scale. Thought it was a rad slow burn mystery horror thing that just kinda does what it wants, delivers an awesome finale and ends. Absolutely insane year for horror.

I follow Cody because I love his horror content and commentary. As a former dancer, I used to watch every single dance shows and movies, so as odd as it is, I followed Jojo since she was a kid and started on a show called “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition” and this show was on in like 2012? This kid came out for the cameras obviously on a “reality” show and her mom was bragging she bleached her 7-year-olds hair monthly. I’m not a parent, but I was truly in shock. This kid was super obnoxious and the producers of the show wanted her to be on “Dance Moms” because they thought she’d help increase ratings which apparently she did. Idk, I guess she had a really positive influence on kids for a long time and thought she was a singer and I stopped following her a long time ago, but holy 💩, I didn’t even know she was an adult anymore and “Jojo with the bow bow” stuck with her that she now needs to tell people she needs to drink and swear? And she acts? Oh dear, that is scary.

One of the things that bothered me with "Trap" was that it undid its big twist. The t-shirt guy told him that the concert was a setup to catch the serial killer. When they got out of the car to go to the concert, the daughter said, "I can't believe she added this afternoon concert." But in the end, we discover that the wife left a ticket stub at the crime scene to tip off the police. So that means he was already going before the concert was set up as a trap. The movie can't have it both ways.

Coming from a guy who usually agrees with your takes, I’m shocked to see you have Cuckoo over Strange Darling. I watched both off of your recommendation, and I feel that while Cuckoo is an okay horror movie with 2 or 3 legitimately great scares, Strange Darling is arguably the best film that I’ve seen all year. I guess that’s one of the aspects of watching movies that makes me love it so much; we all have our own unique opinions and rankings on things. Love it! I think Strange Darling is up there with Barbarian and X as the three best horror films of the decade thus far.

The 1971 film the Zodiac Killer was made with the intent to entice the real Zodiac Killer to the theatre like a trap. You have to wonder if The Trap was inspired by this time they really tried to catch a serial killer in a theatre. Tom Hansen, the director, rented out the Golden Gate Theatre with the intent of luring the Zodiac Killer with the screenings of his movie.

As far as movies releasing this month (I saw many other 2024 movies this month), I only saw Trap and Alien Romulus. Both I enjoyed for what they were, but I get the hate. Trap did have some good suspense, but there were some jumps in logic that did leave me puzzled a bit. A little tightening of the script could have made this a top 5 Shyamalan movie, but as it is, I'd say ot's comfortably middle of the pack. Alien Romulus was entertaining. I agree with you about the positives, but i also agree with the critics who said this was basically just a greatest hits movie that didn't really bring anything new to the table. It did just rehash a bunch of elements of the older films. In isolation (yes, I used that word on purpose, lol), it's a perfectly entertaining movie, and if someone is fine with it rehashing everything that came before, that's cool. I'm somewhere between the lovers and the haters. What it does do it does really well. It's just that it doesn't try to go beyond that (even the final act was done in Resurrection, though this does it better imo). I would love to see Strange Darling, but its not showing anywhere near me. Poor promotion and limited releases are why more people don't support good original films anymore.

@davsny5 Sinister 2 is a movie I've done a complete 180 on. I hated it when it came out because you can tell creatively that they never intended for sequels, but I like the deputy, and I think he's good in it. They followed it up the logical way they could that wasn't a copy-paste job of the original, and Blumhouse has definitely made substantially worse films since.

7. Borderlands-A totally misguided video game adaptation that includes a cast with zero chemistry, very questionable editing and VFX, and a story without tension, which makes for easily the worst Eli Roth movie I’ve seen 6. The Crow-Even though there’s some serviceable violence here, this re-adaptation of The Crow story falls flat on its face when it comes to telling an inspired narrative and having something to say 5. Jackpot!-Another streaming project that’s high energy enough to not click away, but with nothing to make it memorable after the credits roll 4. Trap-A middle of the road film from M. Night Shyamalan that doesn’t make the overt mistakes of M. Night films like Lady in the Water or Old, but doesn’t tap into the human experience like he did from 1999 to 2002 3. Cuckoo-A tension and atmosphere filled horror film from Neon with a nutty performance from Dan Stevens and a narrative with twists and turns that certainly kept me guessing to make for something I’ll be going back to at some point 2. Alien: Romulus-A rather solid Alien experience with plenty of tension and atmosphere, Fede Álvarez direction, two interesting lead characters, good enough commentary, and great practical effects to make for a worthy addition to the franchise 1. Strange Darling-A great, subversive serial killer thriller with a great performance from Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner as well as a story structure that consistently reframes the characters and events from start to finish Here are the August 2024 I didn’t watch Afraid AMFAD All My Friends Are Dead The Becomers Between the Temples Blink Twice Catching Dust City of Dreams The Clean Up Crew Crescent City The Deliverance Detained Duchess The Firing Squad First Shift The Forge Girl You Know It’s True Greedy People Good One Harold and the Purple Crayon The Investigators It Ends with Us The Killer Mountains 1992 One Fast Move Place of Bones Reagan Rob Pearce Ryan’s World the Movie: Titan Universe Adventure Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie Skincare Stream Trust in Love The Union Watchmen: Chapter 1 You Gotta Believe

I just didn’t like the whole story of them being these criminals on the run. The first one they’re good kind hearted people that even look after Sarah and you get behind the crow for taking his revenge. This new one just gave us 2 convicts that I don’t care for and it goes too into the weird stuff

Does anyone know how to watch Stream? I’m really wanting to but have no idea where I can. Will it be available on streaming somewhere? Is it in theaters?

Cody, Yes I agree with everything you said about Blink Twice - the ending COMPELETELY contradicts the theme of the entire film. My only question is...why was this film made and who was it made for? Also, if Zoe knows something about the Hollywood elite, how about exposing them instead making a "fictional" film about it.

I was so bored with the Prometheus storyline of Alien, as a huge fan of the Alien/s, Alien Romulus was perfect to me. Thank you, Fede Alvarez.

That thing about horror alumni in Stream is my only worry about Terrifier 3. There was a constant stream hey, this guy is going to be in it...well all those guys are going to want a big moment and if they give it it's going to start feeling like scenes shoehorned in just for them. I'm hoping Leone is savvy enough to avoid that. I'm with you in Alien Romulus. I loved it and am quite surprised too at how divisive it. I know the weird CGI Ian Holmuculus was fucking terrible, but everything else was great.
