@colten5310 ай бұрын
I get weird looks when I put it in my top 10 favorite horror films list. It’s the very definition of a horror movie with a Sci-Fi twist rather than a supernatural one. It has all the hallmarks of a slasher movie but they’re all done to perfection. You have an unstoppable killer that doesn’t show emotion for a justified plot reason that makes the killer genuinely terrifying. You have a phenomenal final girl in Sarah Connor who never feels too helpless to the point of annoyance but not too strong that it feels forced and unrealistic for a waitress to be badass. She has to use what she has learned and her wits to win. The nudity and sex in the movie are one of the few instances I can think of where it is necessary for the plot. It shows the T-800 is a force to be reckoned with even when he’s at a complete disadvantage for a normal human. It puts Kyle Reese in a relatable underdog position where he has to use his wits to survive. The sex scene is the culmination of Sarah and Kyle’s relationship and the thing that leads to the birth of John Connor and closing the time loop as we know it in T1. To not call it horror feels like an insult to horror. Like “horror can’t be this good.” It’s the same issue people tend to raise when Hannibal Lecter properties are classified as thrillers or when modern movies call themselves “elevated horror.” Just like any genre, horror can be schlocky but it can also be great art.

Yep. Friday the 13th is such an unusual franchise. The first movie honestly kinda sucks. It gets remembered as a classic because it started the franchise and it has Kevin Bacon in one of his first roles. However, there’s a reason that Sean S Cunningham really never went on to do anything else of note. He’s just not that great of a storyteller or director. Carpenter went on to make over a dozen great movies after Halloween. Wes Craven made numerous classics within the horror genre after Elm Street (and that also came out after Last House on the Left). I think Friday the 13th Part 2 is better all around, and we don’t even get the iconic Jason until Part 3. I often just skip Part 1 when I watch the movies. It would have been weird if 4 was the last one considering that we would have only had the iconic Jason for 2 movies if it was the last one. My personal favorite is Part 6. And Savini’s makeup and effects. It was absolutely game changing. When Savini was doing practical effects in late 70’s and early 80’s horror films, he was legitimately inventing things that had never been done before. I don’t think people will fully appreciate what it meant to see an axe to the face in 1980. It’s been done a million times now, but people hadn’t ever seen anything like it at the time. That’s true of the original DOTD, Maniac, Prowler, and pretty much everything Savini was doing. They weren’t all great films at all, but the impact of seeing that degree of gore back then was something we were experiencing for the first time. You can’t go back and see it through those eyes if you’re younger

In conclusion, after watching the entire video, I always appreciate your views and opinions on movies. I'm a huge horror geek, and even though I disagree with some of your hot takes, I really do see where you're coming from when you explain your reasoning. Like, for instance, Evil Dead 2 is my fave, I think the balance of horror and comedy is perfect, but I also love the 2013 reboot/sequel, and Evil Dead Rise, I also love the 1st entry, and Evil Dead 3 is also near perfection. Child's Play 1 was my first horror film I watched in full on the Sci-fi Channel back in 1991, I was 7 years old, but Child's Play 2 is my fave, and CP 3 is an amazing movie, first time the FX guys used computer programming to move the chucky doll around the set. Halloween 2, you may be on an island, but I love the brutality in that movie. Anyway, sorry about the essay, lol. Love your vids, opinions, and will never stop watching your channel, so never stop, please 😂 take care buddy 💯👊 PS; Terminator 1 is definitely a slasher movie 👌

Whie the original Friday the 13th isn't the best in the series, I still think it's really good. Camp Crystal Lake is a great setting, the music is iconic, the kills are memorable and Betsy Palmer is fantastic as Pamela Voorhees despite only appearing in the final act. And to this day, I maintain the Jason popping out of the lake at the end is the single greatest jump-scare in horror movie history.

@Cody Leach - While I respect your opinion on Dark Fate, I thoroughly disagree that it is better than Terminator 3, or Genisys's stories. Plus, I think that with them tying it to Sarah Connor after killing John wasn't a good move. Cause if like you said, Sarah trains the new leader of the resistance. What is to stop Legion from sending a terminator back and trying to kill Sarah before she can train Dani? But if Legion was to do it, they would be risking their own survival. If you kill Sarah Connor, you prevent the birth of John Connor, which wouldn't lead to the creation of Legion, it would just bring back Skynet cause they wouldn't be around to destroy it before Judgment Day.

I agree, Season of the Witch is a great movie and the best after the original. Calling Halloween 3 was a mistake and I have older family members that told me that they walked into the theater back in 1983 and had no idea that Michael wasn't in it. I get why people were pissed at that time, poor marketing and people don't like being fooled into a movie.

Something interesting that I've discovered about hot takes is that it's not always the take itself that pisses ppl off; sometimes, it just boils down to HOW you word or deliver said take. Like with your Terminator take, which I agree wholeheartedly with, I'd phrase it like "It's an action film with the skeletal structure of a slasher" (haha get it cus cyborgs lmao). However some ppl will always take things the wrong way, or only listen to ya in bad faith, regardless of how you phrase it oof Love your work, Cody!! P.S. I'll say this about the original Exorcist: to me, the film is far more terrifying on a subconscious/subliminal level that it is outwardly scary X3 (That possessed Reagan make-up tho will always haunt me cus of that damn Scary Maze game lmao) The Exorcist III definitely works a lot more for me on both levels; like you said, it does a way better job at getting under your skin, and the scares legit got me the first time I watched it 🥶 I think Exorcist 3, along with In Dreams, Dolores Claiborne, the original Cube and The Cell are great entryways into psychological horror X3

I was pleasantly surprised with your number 2 hot take, in the fact that I agree with your assessment. Evil Dead 2 is probably my second least favorite movie in the franchise, ahead of Army of Darkness, which is my least favorite. Maybe it's just a preference thing, but I like the more serious toned movies in the franchise, that are more focused on the horror and despair aspect, instead of the comedy/slapstick, which feels completely out of place to me. Don't get me wrong, Army of Darkness is hilarious, but not Evil Dead to me. I can also empathize with people, and understand their reasonings why they enjoy Evil Dead 2. I think that from a comedy angle, ED2 has funny moments that I laugh at, but it isn't Evil Dead to me, because it was a horror comedy, and not a straight up psychological, supernatural isolation horror movie like Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2013, and Evil Dead Rise.

Yes! I've always thought Dark Fate was the best sequal after Termantor & T2. I've never understood the hate.
@rosswhite597510 ай бұрын
Obviously a lot of people hate that John Connor was killed off, just to be replaced with a Mexican girl. Why? Why do that? Is it to reset the franchise and tell a fresh new story? Nope because Dark Fate is basically just the exact same movie as T2 but changing the sex of the 'hero' and changing the name of Skynet to Legion. It adds nothing new to the story. Personally I don't mind killing off John Connor or indeed Newt and Hicks dying off screen for Alien3, as long as you have a reason to do so and can add to the overall storyline and have a reason for it. Alien3 is a mess but Ripley is the main character of the franchise and it gave a decent end to her story arc (sacrificed herself). Dark Fate adds nothing so I can totally understand why people see it as disrespectful to the character of John, and an example of Hollywood's current obsession with ruining male movie legacy characters to replace them with females (Disney star wars, Indiana Jones, all recent Marvel releases etc). That side of things I am not super bothered about eitherway, but what I do really dislike about Dark Fate is it's total lack of new ideas. It literally doesn't need to exist, it does nothing story wise that wasn't already done in T2. It feels a cynical cash grab that banked on the return of Linda and Arnie to trick fans into seeing it, without actually bothering to write a movie that justifies existing. At least Salvation and Genesis tried to do something a bit different and didn't just photocopy T2.

@@politefan8141 Yeah Linda Hamilton is the best thing about it. I saw it the day it came out, in the cinema, hadn't seen any reviews of anything and was looking forward to it. Finally a Terminator sequel with Linda and Arnold in, plus it has James Cameron listed as one of the writers and producers, surely this is gonna be what we have all been waiting for ever since T2! I left the cinema feeling very annoyed afterwards. Like Cody's Madame Web review I just felt it was not acceptable and simply not good enough. To just phone in a photocopy of T2's story after getting Linda and Arnie back one final time is frankly insulting to them and insulting to the fans. They spent nearly 200 million but couldn't come up with an original story? Ridiculous.

Here are 4 of my more unpopular movie opinions: 1. I think Michael Bay has a lot more talent than people give him credit for Explanation: Of course he made the nonsensical Transformers sequels, but he’s done a lot of films I quite enjoy and there’s a bunch of his movies that have more to offer than just massive spectacle and jokes aiming for the lowest common denominator. 2. I kind of love Halloween III: Season of the Witch for the movie it is Explanation: It doesn’t make any sense in the Halloween franchise, but if you can remove the Halloween name from this film, I think it’s a highly enjoyable horror film from the early 80’s. 3. I’m not specifically a big fan of Middle Earth Explanation: Don’t get me wrong The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a fantastic trilogy that I enjoy every time I rewatch them, but they’ve never been personal favorites of mine, even though I really only have very positive things to say about them 4. I love Terminator: Dark Fate and think it’s safely the best Terminator film since T2 Explanation: While I’m well aware that a lot of people hate Dark Fate with a passion, I love the way it builds out the Terminator lore, expands the character of Sarah Conner, finds a new angle to explore Arnold as The T-800, and I think it has great action. If you disagree, that’s okay! That’s the beauty of being film fans!
