I recommend doing a re-read of 'If We Were Villains' if you're up to it! You'll find so many hints throughout which tell you the outcome of the book, and you only realise that it isnt just a throw away line, or a casual conversation topic, once you know the entire story. I get excited every time i do a re-read because of it (though that might be because its my favourite book 😅)

This is How You Lose the Time War is definitely my favorite book I’ve read this year. It’s been several months and I still think about it all the time. My other absolute favorite of the year was A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor, the final book in Hank Green’s duology. For some reason that book made me cry a lot lol. I also just finished Into the Drowning Deep, which was so engaging and tense that I just flew through it haha

What's your philosophy on "giving books a second chance?" (anyone can answer this, I am honestly curious!) Tere have been some books that I have had to start and stop a few times, Like all of the Erik Larson books (Devil in the White City took me 3 tries to start but I ended up loving it once it got going) but I have never really felt a great need to go back to books that I disliked or was disappointed by after reading it once. Is it something you do often, or how to you re-approach a book like that?
@caricanread4 жыл бұрын
I definitely give most books a second chance because a lot of times its the writing style that stops me from getting into it and, sort of like taste buds, my taste for reading style changes with time!! If I really don't like the story though, then its harder for me to reread. But many of my fav books are ones that I couldn't get into on the first read so I'm always open^^ I put a lot of time between my rereads tho - sometimes years!!
@youandwhatarmy6354 жыл бұрын
This is an interesting question! I think for me, I would think about what the reason is that I didn't like a book. Like maybe I thought it was boring and now I have more patience, or I thought a character was annoying but now I've matured and realized that might not be the case. Something along those lines :)
@KP-wv2ww4 жыл бұрын
That's such a good question! There's been quite a few times where I've tried reading a book and it just doesn't click with me, but when I read it a couple months or years later, it clicks and I end up enjoying it so much! In my opinion, as we grow as individuals and read more books, a book that we might not get the first time round, might just click the next time. So I do give some books a second chance :)
@maryap88214 жыл бұрын
I usually give books a second chance if they're very well known classics (they probably deserve the hype!) or if the premise sounds really interesting and up my alley. We are constantly changing as humans and obviously as readers, so I find that sometimes I'm not in the right place to read a certain book and a couple months or years later that book becomes a favourite of mine (that happened to me with The Secret History)
@DeeRafatSweileh4 жыл бұрын
It depends on many factors. But I usually try to give books a second chance. If it's the writing style then I'll probably not go back, because I've tried it before and it didn't work. 😅 If I can't 'tolerate' the characters, if you know what I mean, I wouldn't go back either. I started a series once and the main character was unbeatable. I just couldn't vibe with her at all. My friend kept telling me she gets better by book 3!! I CAN NOT READ 3 BOOKS FOR ME TO GET TO LIKE A CHARACTER. 😂😂😂 But it's rare for me to love a book I didn't like on the first try. I think I know what I like and I can kind of sense whether we'll be a good fit or not

I saw that there was another book out for the series, but I didn’t wanna pick it up. On the flipside, The Word is Murder was an amazing book and I have wanted to read the next one of that. I remember, in I think 2020, when I first read "This is how you lose the time war" (also in one sitting) I then, right after finishing it, called a friend of mine just so I could go on a 1-hour rant about how much I loved this book and how emotional made me hahah and even though English is not my first language, it just made so much sense in my head. I felt like it was way easier to read than some popular YA books. It's the only book ever rated 6 out of 5 stars. My absolute fav and also the only book I can and want to reread without getting bored. HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it

Naomi Novik is one of those authors where it seems like all the pieces should fit and work well to make a great book (story, writing style etc.) but somehow it just doesn’t do it for me. Naomi Novik is stellar, love what she's putting out there but the age difference wigged me out. I read Uprooted super fast because the storytelling was gorgeous but there were definitely some slightly problematic tropes. Love your earrings!!!

Have you read the Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner? I think you might like it based on other books you've talked about!

Omg this is so weird, I bought uprooted as a random book, wasn’t really thinking much. So when you were talking about it I was like this sounds familiar. 😂

How do you read so quickly? This is a genuine question. I want to read but I have a hard time.

i freelance so i have big spaces in my schedule to just read :) i usually read 2-3 hours a day which is enough for me to read most books in 1-3 days!

Hey! Love your perspective on reading various genres, normally with booktube it's hard to find. I do read widely so it really helps to see people not just counting books from the same genre...you really are here for the right reasons, keep on the good work!! ❤️🤗👍❤️❤️🤗 Have you read dune??? What do you think of the trailer ??? Have you read earthsea and how do you like the Ghibli adaptation??? You love Ghibli so i had to ask😏🤔😉😇❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@caricanread4 жыл бұрын
I havent read Dune and tbh I’m a little intimidated because it seems a little complex but the trailer had me so excited!! And i still havent read earthsea even tho its a classic 😭🙏

I love the way you describe books, and that you don't suger-coat your reactions, lol! My only problem is that your recommendations are too good and now I just keep wanting to read more and more books!! Time to add at least three more titles to my already dozens-long TBR list. |ʘ‿ʘ)╯Who needs sleep anyway, when there are books to be read?

Thank you for this lovely book video. I am reading the "A Court of Throns and Roses" series now, because you said it was amusing (in a previous video). I have only just started the second book, but I find they contain many lengthy and verbose descriptions of a slightly boring and irrelevant nature. But I love the female heroine. I love how "true love" is portrayed. I love how a 'change of heart' is permitted, and even desirable from the pov of the reader. Sometimes things move too slowly. But most expectations are paid off. Can't wait to finish these and dive into more of your recommendations :)

the books keep getting longer and longer, just a warning ;) but you're right, i thought that was pretty unique for a book to be able to make you fall in love and root for so many different characters!

Have you read Vicious by V.E Schwab? It doesn't have an elusively dark academia vibe because it jumps back and forth in the timeline but i thought you might like.
@caricanread4 жыл бұрын
Yes!! Both main characters really annoyed me but i always end up loving anything ve schwab writes hahahha
@carla64854 жыл бұрын
@@caricanread yes, they irritated me aswell, they were both kind of the villian in some way or another. PS, i ment "exclusively" not "elusively ".
