This is a weird comment, but I have learned English for the past 14 years, and I swear it’s the first time I have ever heard a native speaker say “so so” for something “okay/medium” 😂 And I had to comment because I’ve always heard it in my English lessons, I was taught that but never used it because whenever I encountered native speakers no one used it, I’m so happy to hear it HAHA

OMG SAME! Only heard my non-native teachers say it!

If you liked A Thousand Ships, the author has a non-fiction book exploring women in Greek mythology and it’s BRILLIANT! I think it’s out in the US very soon (or might already be). It rescues the reputation of goddesses and mortal women who are often either overlooked or portrayed negatively in Greek mythology!

So I contracted COVID in August, and unfortunately spent 10 days in the hospital. Thought I was going to go crazy without any books to read (family couldn’t visit with books because duh) but then I remembered I had the audiobook for “The Dog Stars” by Peter Heller on my phone, and oh my gosh, what a book! About a survivor of a flu pandemic (how ironic!) his dog, and his plane, and I loved it! Totally recommend!

I read 4 great books in August! - The Book Thief (Markus Zusak) --> hearth wrenching! 5* - Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen) --> A slow read but such amazing eye to detail when it comes to human thoughts and relations. Just very difficult to read 3* - 1984 (George Orwell) --> A solid 2+2 = 4* - The Song of Achilles (Madeline Miller) --> Just absolutely... I mean... It couldn't have been more... Aristo Achaion... 5* Science September is gonna be amazeballs! --> A brief History of Time (Stephen Hawking) + DUNE (Frank Herbert) are on the TBR list :D

Hi there. Just subscribed. I'm a booktuber too. I will definitely check out The Chosen and the Beautiful. Having taught Gatsby, I think you'd really enjoy rereading it to look for water imagery. Have you ever read The Simple Wild by K. A. Tucker? If not, I think you would really like it! It Happened One Summer reminded me of it a lot, but (in my opinion) the main character is a lot more likable from the beginning in The Simple Wild! And bonus, the third book in that series is coming out pretty soon if you end up liking the first one :D
