Something I really love about this is how evenly both violinist and pianist are showcased. All of the other recordings feature the violinist as if they were the soloist which is not the case. It’s a sonata for violin AND piano. Bravo.

I have been a fan and aficionado of Debussy's music since I was a teen and to this very day he's my favorite composer of all time. I just discovered this piece for the very first time, his final composition, and it's incredible to see how his art developed throughout his life. This one seems less "impressionistic" (a term he hated) than what preceded it and at times seems to be paving the way toward the more avant garde music that the 20th century would bring. The piano part is so different than his other piano-only compositions, it's almost like discovering Debussy for the first time all over again! Great performance!!!

Augustin's music is beyond perfect skills. It often expresses rich sentiments that touch my soul. It is sometimes not a good choice for background music since it catches more of my attention than other music while I work, but I just can't help it. Love the sheer beauty of his expressiveness.

There are some pieces that just pulse with familiar emotion and nostalgia; Debussy's sonata is definitely one of them. There's so many colors and textures to this piece, and Mr. Hadelich construes them beautifully.

YOu mostly have famous players who are famous because their personalities are so big -even though you hear better performances from other artists not as well known . Hadelich is huge : his performances , his musicality , the take he gives us and the perfection of his playing . Vision and perfect playing are rare ! Heifetz had style , a perfect sound!!! (its a bow thing not just fingers!! , a way of doing things so perfect to see him on film you know it's a once in many generations thing . Not Oistrakh,Kogan,Stern,Niveu Szigeti etc.they all had some of that .Stern is a hard working man .His force is the American counterpart of Oistrakh they work hard and force themselves to DO THE MOST and be completely engaged . Hagelich made me reevaluate my experience of this music . Once again !

He's definitely one of the top maybe 10 fiddlers out there working today on the concertizing circuit. I don't know why everyone oohs and aahs over Hillary Hahn, her playing is so boring - clean, but boring. But Augustin? No. Never boring. He makes music in addition to playing cleanly.

When Orion Weiss was playing at the virtual Seattle Chamber Music Society's Summer Festival, he often looked like he was talking to himself. I didn't care because he played so beautifully in all the pieces he was part of - including this work. with violinist Benjamin Beilman. Augustin was in the Festival, but they didn't play together. I thought and hoped that they would do so someday as Weiss is an amazing ensemble performer.
