Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the NYPD and all the odious apparatus of American rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the new world, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old" - Winston churchill in an alternate version off WW2 pitting The UK and France against the Americans. 1940 (This took WAYYY to long to make)

Mr Duck, as a British person I can confirm that these are technically laws, but they were usually created about a hundred years ago (for the bike one, it is likely when bikes and cars were rare and most people were pedestrians on sidewalks) and quite literally nobody ever bothered removing them as they are so obviously wrong and it wasn't worth all the paperwork. None of these kind of laws are actually enforced (and I too had never heard the "Door Bell Run" thing or whatever they called it, being said that way)
@peterburgess59742 жыл бұрын
‘Knock down ginger’ is what we called it. Fun fun fun! My mother apparently perfected this ‘game’ by the use of a long piece of cotton linked to where she cowered, hidden across the road. She would attach said string to a door ‘knocker’ (I hope this isn’t a rude thing in the USA) and then await the owner answering the door. What genius, she never had to run away, with a bemused house owner considering how the door knocker had been clashed. By the way, my mum admitted this terrible crime to me last year, aged 79. Oh yes, the good old days of post war Blighty!!

At least in Germany you are actually not supposed to be on the sidewalk with your bicycle if you’re over the age of twelve (I believe it’s 12) And even though it’s generally not enforced by the police, if you drive by a pedestrian on the sidewalk (and usually it’s older people that do this), you genuinely have a good chance to be screamed at that quote “this is not a bicycle lane”.

Pretty sure that's the case in most countries. Here in The Netherlands it is indeed technically Illegal to ride on the sidewalk but the police do not enforce it. I live in Sweden and it is illegal to ride a bike on the pavement if your over the age of eight, but if there’s no cycling area they can cycle on the pavement until they’re around 11-12 years old, then they have to ride on the road. In the UK they consider bikes a vehicle and therefore you cannot ride on the pavement. I don’t live in the UK so I had to search it up, but the reason is the same as Sweden.

Even if some of these laws are true, why record yourself doing it and then post it on YT? Makes no fucking sense 😒.

As a British person, I can confirm it's is illegal. It's the reason we have bicycle lanes all over Britain. You can drive on the road to just not the pavement that's where your meant to walk.

You can't ride a bike on the sidewalk here in Italy too and I think that it's a thing in the whole Europe too: here bikes are considered vehicles therefore you must ride them on the road.

Riding your bike on the sidewalk is illegal in most US states too even if theres no bike lane available

I do remember watching a video talk about how many places have laws that are stupid in modern day, but were used in the distant past. However, they never got written out, so technically they are still law. A dumb law ive heard about is in Florida, you have to pay parking fines like every one else if you are riding an elephant. So you would have to tie your elephant to the meter and pay it. So i wouldnt say the ghost law is too far fetch.

She was probably surprised because here in Britain or notes are plastic and are actually quite hard to rip. It was probably pre-cut before she but it tbh.

Dutch person here: in the Netherlands, cycling is illegal on the pavement. That´s what bicycle lanes are for. We have plenty of those. USE THEM.
