About AUK Talks Speaker:
Dr. Stefanie Babst is a Former NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, an internationally renowned strategic advisor, publisher and speaker on international security issues and a board member of the German Council on Foreign Relations, the Danish Center for War Studies and the Norwegian Forum for Nordic Security Policy.
Dr. Stefanie Babst has 22 years of remarkable professional journey in NATO's International Staff. From 2012 to 2020, she led NATO's Strategic Foresight Team - a civil-military team, advising the NATO Secretary General and Chairman of the Military Committee on strategic unknowns and potential upcoming crisis situations in geographical and functional areas of relevance to the Alliance.
In 2022, Dr. Stefanie Babst was formally recognized as one of the Top 100 leading female leaders in Germany. In April 2023, she published her book “Sehenden Augges - Mut zum strategischen Kurswechsel” (English title: “Blind spots - Why the West must have the courage to alter its strategy towards Russia”) which has attracted wide international attention.
In this book Dr. Babst shares personal "inside NATO stories" and thoughts about whether the transatlantic allies are prepared for a long conflict with putin; have they started to think in terms of alternative future scenarios and prepare for Moscow's next moves; are they fully aware that their responses to russia's war against Ukraine shape the political calculus of other authoritarian regimes and Moscow-friendly countries; do they have the courage to take some bold decisions with real strategic impact, etc.
