Aloha, Peter and Kitra! So glad you enjoyed Hawaii. The Hawaiian language is very easy to pronounce, because the vowels only have one sound, so it's exactly like Spanish vowels. So Ukulele is not you-kah-lay-lee, but just ooo-koo-lay-lay. 'Olelo means "language, words," so the bar was created around the three of teaching the Hawaiian language to visitors. In the past, the staff and bartenders would give you a quick lesson to help you pronounce the words and understand the significance of the spoken word in Hawaiian culture, but I'm guessing that COVID has caused staff reductions and social distancing requirements that prevent them from doing that right now. And glad you liked those fries... in Hawaii, we love to put mochi crunch and furikake on our popcorn at the movie theaters, so that's a take on that (even elevated to greater goodness). Always love your videos, and looking forward to more of your adventures!
@OrdinaryAdventures4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. I wish we had looked up the meaning of Olelo before we went there haha
@konradkuewa41824 жыл бұрын
So in the Hawaiian language, the vowels are pronounced ah,eh,ee,oh,oo (a,e,i,o,u). So to say iole (mouse), it's pronounced ee-oh-lay. To say menehune, it's pronounced meh-neh-hoo-neh. To say popoki (cat), poh-poh-kee. Hope this helps. Aloha 🤙
