AUMPoly 1.0 is a 5 voice polyphonic synthesizer build inside AUM Audio mixer using a multitude of various AUv3 music apps. Oscillators, envelopes, filter and FX have all been chosen to give this synth a character well suited for pad sounds.

That’s what I love about AUM. It’s so easy to experiment with stuff in it. Many times I’ll end up doing that and I won’t actually make music, I’ll just be testing things out. It’s almost like a modular synth with AUv3 plugins being the modules.

Jakob, This is great! I've been playing around with creating a drum machine in AUM using auGENx as the audio source, The oscillator sounds great and each instance is light on CPU demand. polythemus is new to me, will experiment with that too. Thanks for sharing this.

Plus I don’t do videos featuring all of my messy shenanigans, I’m always worried people won’t watch some of the stuff I do. 😅 I’ll keep working on this one though and I will present a version 2 at some point in the future so stay tuned. 👊

While an interesting experiment the complexities involved rival a "best of 2019 synth" but the capabilities do not. Everything with KB-1 and the graphical design would even stay the same simply with different mapping behind the scenes. Given that is the user interface, the back end really can be whatever you want. I look forward to seeing 2.0 of this, but also think many would then like to see the same journey with miRack and a pros/cons comparison afterward.

The idea of building a synth in AUM pretty much came to me as son as AUM was released, seeing how modular it is (kinda had the idea earlier with Audiobus too). So technically this project started many years ago but I’ve been waiting for the right type of apps to come before I could build something I wanted to show. Back then a lot of the apps I used were IAA so you had to jump between apps which was a real pain in the ssa (read last word backwards). AUv3 plugins really makes it all easier and less contrived even though it’s still somewhat contrived. It wasn’t to hard for me to start since I know synthesis really well and I have been working in with modular synths a lot in the past. Regarding sample files, I do not have anything available at this time. But I’m planning on adding a page to my official website with AUM session files as downloads sometime in the future. I’ve actually been hoping that there would be free alternatives to all of the apps that I’m using so that I could build something that anyone could try out. But so far I haven’t been able to fill the list. But I’m working on it so stay tuned.

I thought of doing something similar. I’ll test some stuff out. It would be interesting if AUM got split screen support. Would open up for more side-by-side setups. So far I’ve had to do stuff where I have some apps in a slide-over view. It works but it’s far from perfect.

@@JakobHaq I understand how you made the graphical overlay itself. I'm not explaining myself very well. Is there a feature in AUM I'm missing which loads all these AUv3s in place when you load the patch? I mean, when you load it do all these pieces load into the right places so that your AUM Poly 'app' appears the way we see it here? Or do you have to reassemble and place the UI elements each time?

Sorry. Most of my viewers are Mobile Music producers using iOS as their main platform. AUv3 is a plugin format, basically like Mac Audio Units or AU for short. AUv3 can also be compared to something like VST. So AUv3’s can basically be anything like synthesizers, drummashines, sequencers, effect plugins and processors like compressor dresser etc. AUM is an Audio mixer host with an ability to record audio. It has support for AUv3 plugins and it also has the ability to route midi. It’s not a like a conventional DAW because AUM lacks an arranger track view and it doesn’t have editing tools. It’s like a multi track recorder and it is one of the most popular apps on iOS. AUM has a very modular workflow and it is perfect for experimenting with plugins, effect chains and many things. It’s also a good companion for live performances. I have a video in we’re I talk about the concept of AUM vs DAW kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ6khKyQh6aCpaM Thing is that I love doing things with tools that they weren’t designed for doing. AUM is a modular mixer basically and was not made for doing “Modular synthesis” stuff. But that’s what I’ve essentially done here. I’ve built a modular synth inside a mixer with plugins. There’s an introduction on MIDI in AUM on another channel (not mine) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoWrk2yho9V4mrs There’s loads of content on KZbin that teaches AUM from the ground up. My tutorials are usually for users that are a bit more advanced in their usage of AUM. Btw, at around 10 minutes in, there’s a screen with a connection matrix. It’s like a modular matrix panel but for MIDI. Here’s my playlist with all my videos: kzbin.info/aero/PLvNQD1EpaiNObDUoHfT4RRT2_OP-HMRWe
