The internet was made for guys like this! Willing to share and help others. I've been stalling on pulling the trigger on AUM for years. Just couldn't wrap my head around other youtuber's tutorials, but THIS ONE made it very clear. Couldn't find a way to $thank$You$ so I'm gonna stream your Spotify tracks on loop for a week as thanks!!!😂but seriously, they will be on heavy rotation!! thanks a bunch🤙🏽

Man before even starting to get into the course the way you started this video just struck me as one of the most humble, nice, down to earth, and just flat out just wanting to help your fellow producers intro I have seen in a long time. I can tell just through your introduction this is going to be an outstanding youtube channel and hopefully growing community. Liked and subbed even before the intro was over.

I have been using Aum for over a year now and still learned a considerable amount watching your Tutorial...for example I hadn’t even considered that I could connect my audio interface to this application. Recently I have improved the versatility of my work flow by hooking up Xequence 2 to Aum and thereafter capturing tracks in the 4 pockets multitrack audio recorder and all this for a little than the price of a good night out. 🙏

In addition to dragging up the insert line to reveal the +1 circle to click, you can also add insert slots by double tapping/double clicking directly on the insert line. I find that method a bit easier when using the iPad Pro trackpad. Great video!

It’s not… in fact, it’s pretty fucking far from being user friendly, and for no good reason. It’s loaded with too many useless functions that just get in the way and confuse the fuck out of you. Like, why would you use a bus, other than to catch a ride somewhere? What the fuck are they even there for in the first place, and why so many? And panning… why they fuck would anyone want to pan left and right throwing their volume off balance? Set at 0 and leave it the hell alone

A good trick to add an effect is to double tap along the line or just under the last one in a midi channel. No need to scroll to the + sign. AUM has a lot of functionality that is not all in your face. I love AUM. There is also another way to assign an lfo app to a parameter. You can do so by tapping the track name at the bottom of the track you want to send midi to and then the mixer icon at the top left corner of the box that comes. It's cool because if you have a very messy setup, you can narrow things by working on each track one at a time.

Thanks for the video! It was helpful to see that you are using a USB interface for audio in. I was trying the Lightning to headphone adapter with a TRRS adapter which works poorly at best, and I now see that Kymatica doesn't really recommend that method. For now I'll stick with Logic Pro on my iMac for external devices since my old Roland USB interface doesn't work with the iPad.

Watching DAW tuts in general, let alone now trying to figure out AUM has actually been incredibly frustrating, my ADD kicks in, I don't know what the hell the person is talking about, they're skipping everywhere, and it's 50x more complicated on how to actually navigate this app when it's touch.... So first off thank you for using a mouse, as well as giving a quick "I'mma use my finger for this" when you need to, and more importantly thank you for treating us like idiots. "BEGINNER AUM" tutorials always assume that I've been using Garageband, Cubasis, AudioBus, Ableton Link and every other god damned fucking app that you can possibly fucking download on a god DAMNED iPad... This is the FIRST video I've found that doesn't assume you already make a shit ton of fucking music on the iPad. It's so incredibly offputting, confusing, and discouraging when videos do that, that I truly thank you for taking your time and going over each and every routing/MIDI/AUv3/and other functions of this. Cause yes, I'm truly starting square one. Yes I'm quite adept at Ableton. Yes I make music. No, NONE of that transfers over to producing on iOS and I'll fist fight anyone on that. If you think that having knowledge of Ableton Arrangement view is going to help you create ANYTHING on iOS you're so sorely mistaken, or you're simply Autistic and figured it out on your own and can't comprehend why someone else wouldn't automatically understand. Thanks again. Fuck these other tutorials from other KZbinrs, they're less than worthless.

This is such a great video. I’ve heard about AUM since it first came out, and still didn’t understand why I should give up DAWs such as Cubasis and others for this. I was also told that AUM was more geared toward live performances, so at the time it wasn’t of any use to me. Now the time has come and I am going to do a performance soon, so I found this video in the nick of time. I will return to it again soon and use AUM while following, and it’s be made a little easier since I have Model D, Model 15 and the Rozeta Sequencer Suite....all I bought when they first were released. AUM should make using all fo these more fun in this way. Oh, and subscribed. Looking forward to more; thanks again!

You might want to show how you connect your keyboard and how you power it without draining your iPad battery in 2 minutes. You can have a different AUM track for each drum track in patterning, which is cool to be able to have different effects for each drum One off the track question is why are audio units called extensions. Extensions of what?

Not entirely sure why I clicked on this, cos I love AUM and never start a project without it. However, you asked for hints, tips, stuff you’d missed, and I thought of a few...a) you can simply double-tap an fx channel to add a new slot, b) if you drag the actual bpm figure up or down it changes in whole number increments, c) you don’t need to put Rozeta stuff in a midi channel- they can simply go at the top of a normal channel strip and be assigned via the matrix, d) always put reverbs last in an fx chain otherwise it gets muddy (thanks to JAde Wii for that tip), e) Riffer is a much more intuitive, user friendly and versatile alternative to Piano Roll (try Autony too- it’s brilliant for introducing semi-controlled randomness). Er- that’s about it, but thanks for reminding me of Rozeta LFO- and I never knew about bookmarking! Thank you! Hope some of this helps...

Suggested approach to making it smaller: Define rectangular boundaries (use them, don't show them, separate by background color if needed) AND narrow the faders. I wouldn't shorten them but add an easily toggled, short-form numeric input mode input instead of finger travel. PS Make shorter faders optional if people really want that.

I just realized after buying gauss. That AUM is taking over the iPad . And sucking up all the apps. 😤what’s wrong with me? The iPad is now AUM ! The interface AUM which I purchased and hated no matter how many times I tried to use it justify looking at endless menus before a note is sounded. Inevitably I remove it . Case closed I can just use a daw that supports audio units like GarageBand or whatever that DO make sense visually. But now things like GAUSS are native to AUM . My least favorite daw / mixer of all time.this needs some kind of step one step two type demos . Absolutes that are the core method . These setup tutorials seem to focus on setting it up and not making a track . I don’t know. This is just a channel strip with menus ( endless menus ) hidden in cryptic icons from Star Trek . Like “loopy “ another one of my least favorites.you are a cool dude for doing this and it’s not that you aren’t doing a great job I just can’t stand the direction iOS has started going with so called daws . 😕👽🛸🎶☮️christo

Thanks for your comment. I hope you can find a good use for AUM. All of the music on my channel is made from AUM. Maybe you can watch some of those and see how I connect everything together? Not that I’m self-promoting or anything. 😉

@@MobileMusicMaker are you using iOS mobile to produce your racks entirely in AUM? If so why? What is the advantage ? Is it a superior sound engine? I use audio share an audio buss their simple forms . Why is this a purely cryptic interface the Must Have? I respect your tutorials although the AUM platform effects me visually (a total creative buzz kill) like a sleeping pill. It reminds me of the euro rack process endless protocols with results that still don’t sit in a mix. That puts creating a track in the rearview mirror. That’s why blocks wave, gadget, GarageBand,Flip , and several other apps like them took right off. I use many apps to make music design or complete tunes. But I will force myself to once again look at AUM. It might just ruin my mobile experience though. Since now it seems to be more a demand from developers than a choice . Everyone is unfortunately insisting on working this way. Personally I believe AUM will be irrelevant when the m1chips go in the iPad Pro line and the full version of Logic Pro appears for iOS and does this all under one hood with a native engine coded for this hardware specifically.peace Christo 👽

@@christoroppolo8742 The main reason I started producing tracks in AUM is because I found it work very well for the kind of generative, ambient, improvisational music that I create. I also like that the software plug-ins were much more affordable on the iPad than they were on my Mac or Windows machines. Also, the processing for sound on my iPad was significantly better than the Windows machine I had, and the MacBook Pro I was using was old enough that I was running into a lot of problems trying to run effects and software instruments in logic. And of course, there’s also the portability. I was able to create tracks in my office at work during my office hours if I didn’t have something I was working on and not have to worry about taking up time with my family at home. I still use logic to create rock songs or more traditional pop music or “beats” for dance music or hip hop, but I find that AUM is where I create the initial sounds and patterns that go into those. I find it so easy to open it up and get going with a tune, and the connectivity reminded me a lot of modular synthesis, which in also love. I would love to see Logic for iPad, but even more so, I would love to have a better way to connect AUM to Logic on my Mac or GarageBand on my iPad.

@@MobileMusicMaker I agree with everything you said here it’s true that iOS is the future for sure. I I just ant full Logic Pro on the iPad Pro . I love and use GarageBand a lot and would love to expand into a true Logic mobile pro environment. Then apps that are AU or whatever’s on the iPad is up for grabs. Peace Christo👽🛸🎶🐕☮️

Hey Logan, I’ve just watched this and felt compelled to say “ Thank you” For me it was next level, clearly laid out, even though I’m sure you did it mostly “on the fly” Thoroughly enjoyed it..would be cool if you could give tips on saving presets/ sessions and assigning midi pc for recalling on the fly in a live situ. .

Have a look at MixBox by IK Multimedia. It’s reduced as an introductory offer for IPad at the moment. Very powerful. Great tutorial. Thanks.

so I notice the DSP meter wildly jumping for what appears to be no reason... 20% to 60%, even when you’re not doing much in the video. is there a reason for this? how much can AUM take before it hits the wall? great video - so much information here. thanks!

The only time I’ve ever run into issues is when I’m using an old IAA app. Especially Final Touch. It may have just been spiking because I was recording my voice and the screen recording at the same time , so i was pushing it pretty hard. I’ve never had it crash just doing audio.

Lovely video. You just convinced me to get AUM. What audio interface and iPad do you recommend?

I have had the best experience with an iPad Pro. I currently have an M1 12.9” that is a beast. It’s the precious generation so I got it on sale a few months ago. For audio interface, if you just need a couple of channels for input, I love the Focusrite 2i2. If you need more, I also have the 8i6 in my studio and covers everything I need easily. Of course, if you have the money, Universal Audio or Apollo interfaces are amazing.

Thanks for the great Introduction. I realize I’m a bit late to the video, but wondering if you could describe your hardware setup. I think I heard you say that you have an audio interface and you have a keyboard. Do you run those into a multi-port type device and then into your iPad? Any other pieces?

Short answer: I have a usb hub with my audio interface (currently a Focusrite 8i8) and keyboard plus whatever else i want to hook up. For more detailed look, check out my other video specifically on Hardware setup. It’s my older setup, but it’s close enough.

Logan, this is the very first of your videos I've watched, and just had to subscribe to you! This is very well-explained. It's going to take me some time to wrap my head around the functionalities within AUM, but I added the video to my favorites because it was so well detailed! I've had AUM under my nose on my 3 iPads now for YEARS, and kept telling myself I was going to get to learn how to use it because I realize the "game-changing" capabilities I can see it being useful for. A couple of questions: 1. Can you bookmark more than 2 channels in AUM? 2. Inter-App Audio is old now? What will be its replacement? I have SO MANY music creation apps on my iPad - favorites like iKaossilator and Figure just to name two... so what's coming up? I'll be looking for you on FB. Hope to connect soon. Thanks so much!

Thanks for checking out my channel! I hope you can learn something useful from it. 1. You can bookmark every if you want. 2. IAA is an old standard that Apple wants to phase out. AUv3 is the new standard, so anything that loads as an audio unit is in the new standard. As far as I know, IAA will still be around for awhile, it’s just the old standard. I hope you can create some great music with AUM!
