About Sanford And Son: The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

I'm always amazed that LaWanda Page had no acting experience and Redd Foxx had to really do a lot of convincing to get the producers to hire LaWanda for the part of Aunt Esther. LaWanda was such an integral part of the show. Love her❤️

And after the show had started and LaWanda was still not totally on top of how to do all this, Redd had to give her a pep talk / ultimatum to get herself together. Obviously it worked. LaWanda also praised at least one of the show's producers for supporting her during this difficult time. But we all can see how well she succeeded!

I hate how today people like producers and runners Tyler Perry give inexperienced internet sensations roles; cutting in line of many trained professionals. But there’s always that word exceptions. Some of the best talents had no training, but the difference is you have to know they have to have that natural factor to be great. And LaWanda Page was one of those greats!
