The Hida (ひだ, Hida) is a limited express train service operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) along the Takayama Main Line in central Japan since 1958, which connects Nagoya and Takayama in just over 2 hours, Osaka and Takayama in 4 hours 15 minutes and Nagoya and Toyama in 4 hours. The Hida serves various locations en route such as Gifu and Gero. The best feature for many of Limited Express Hida trains is the window that wraps around the cockpit offering un-interrupted views of the tracks in front of behind the train.
All trains are formed of KiHa 85 diesel multiple unit (DMU) sets, usually as 3-, 4-, 6-, or 7-car formations, or occasionally 10-car formations, especially during busy seasons.
New HC85 series hybrid trains are planned to be introduced on the service in 2022.

The tunnel starting at 9:02 is the darkest tunnel I've ever seen! How bright are the train's headlights? Also, I find it unusual, but very comforting to watch and listen to these train ride videos with the engines shifting gears. I love these videos! But what's the rhythmic clickity clack sound I hear in all of these trains? The propulsion system or the way the tracks are made? Can you please explain it to me? Thank you in advance!

@@maiki5962 On Kiha 85 DMU , the Diesel exhaust Pipe runs just to the Right of where the Video was taken. So , you may hear more noise such as Clicking and Ticking than other DMU cars. キハ85では、ディーゼルエンジンの排気管が 撮影場所の右側すぐ近くを通っており、 その為 他の車種よりもビビリやカチカチといった騒音が聞こえやすいものと思われます。 www.google.com/search?q=kiha+85&tbm=isch ( ↑The Black thing sticking out of the top surface is the Exhaust Pipe )

以前、岐阜から大阪まで特急ひだ号で帰ろうとしたら、高山本線内で16分遅れた状態で岐阜に到着。「これでは大阪で乗り換える電車に接続できないなあ」と思っていたら、キハ85系がエンジン音も高らかに頑張って走った結果、京都駅で16分の遅れを完全に取り戻していました。 長距離を走る特急でダイヤ的に余裕はあると思いますが、ディーゼル特急でこの走りができるのはすごいですね。

What amazes me the most about train travel in Japan is the fact that no matter what crappy branch line you're on, the rail spacing and elevation is so precise, there is almost no discernible sway or bounce (Example: Nose Electric Railway in Hyogo. Ancient line, but smooth as butter). Whereas Melbourne Metro rail feels like a rodeo bull, even at 60 km/h.

After 57 trips to Japan since 1983, I can testify to you that Japan and its people are fabulous...if you do not like humidity, do not go in July, August or September due to the humidity and typhoons.....Even Hokkaido (Chitose, Sapporo and Obihiro areas) can be humid, but not as bad as central Honshu to Kyushu. Fall and Spring are wonderful, anywhere, and Winter in the Japanese Alps and Sakudaira/Karuizawa are marvelous. The East side is nice, too, with a very fine fish market in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, and the excellentTokugawa Museum and gardens, there. Ikimashou!

大阪在住の自分としては、毎年冬に高山へ旅行に行くときは往復(25、36号)ともにお世話になってる列車。 来年も行きたいなぁ、早く例のウイルスが収まってほしい。

高山本線走っている間は明るいですが関西に入ると日が暮れますね。 このような長距離列車はいつまでも走ってもらいたいです。

大阪しなのはなくなったけど、大阪ひだは現在も残ってます。来年または再来年にはひだ号も変わります。新型車両が導入予定です。ちなみに大阪ひだは急行たかやま号を特急に格上げした形で誕生しました。間違っていたらすいません🙏。

One of the best train videos ever. This train uses a diesel engine test just low rumbles through the speakers as the engineer just gently adds and subtracts throttle. The tracks do the wonderful click click click and there is no narration other thrn the actual sounds on the train. Japan is simply beautiful with the mountain sections looking exactly like West Virginia . My wife and my cat slept to the slow moan of that diesel and the wonderful sounds of the train gently moving across the Japanese countryside. Feels like home.... Until the KZbin ads ruined it. Oh well. Still a great video ,train operator and beautiful country. Big shutout to Japan. You are awesome.

These videos are a great way to take in all the scenery along the lines, but the destinations really need personal visits. It's fun to follow the lines on Google Earth while watching the videos to get a better appreciation of the wider local countryside.

急行「たかやま」のころに一度乗車しています。キハ58系の急行があたりまえの時代でした。 ボックスシートで両開き分岐の軽い横Gに身を任せて旅したあのころ。 今から思えば幸せな時間を過ごしていたのだと思いました。

Watching cab/driver videos from around the world, it is just fascinating to see (and hear) the differences in passenger rail, rail in general and landscapes across the countries. While I could go on forever, the most interesting things I notice in this one are the almost zero clearance between the right-of-way and the buildings along it (I knew about this already, but seeing it from the rails is an entirely different thing); how the English-language announcements are in what I would call a 'neutral American' accent; and how Japanese trains have a lot of jingly sounds and the like (though this is mostly because the ones I've seen from Japan are from DMU's where the driver's cab is open to the rest of the passenger compartment... I think). Beautiful video, thanks!

ワイドビューひだはキハ85系。エンジンはアメリカのカミンズ製インタークーラーターボチャージャーで一機あたり350馬力を絞り出すパワーを持っている。ホームを離れる時の加速度は前のキハ82系よりも早く、電車特急と引けを取らない。

This was a great train trip! I've done the Takeyama to Nagoya trip several times, but never the route to Osaka. The scenery between Gifu and Maibara was beautiful!

I am born and rased in kaisei kanagawa pref japan but moved to usa two years ago anywaus i love this video i toke the train here on this rote for to see family anyways i love it so much brings back memory anyways my dads friend of a friend of a friend drove this train ( not this very one in video but a diff trip )

I agree. I had the pleasure of taking this same train with a green car seat two rows back from the engineer and it was gorgeous the whole way.

@@anthonyking5445 Britain's first generation D and EMUs had a similar arrangement of sitting behind the driver and watching the views. Unfortunately, obviously unlike in Japan, security issues mean that these days the gulf between cab and passenger is enormous. Lovely footage.

I am a great fan of rail trips in Japan. I like this one particularly as it goes through beautiful ,luxurient countryside also appreciate that the station names are English as well as Japanese, very good.

以前乗った時、高山本線で10分以上遅れたまま米原に到着したのを京都で見事に挽回して、さすがJR西日本! と思っていたら、この動画の概要欄の通りダイヤに余裕があったのですね...

9:38 This is 100% dark tunnel, open and in the middle of the forest. How they can make sure an animal won't seek shelter inside the tunnel and crash the train?

新快速運転複々線区間内では滋賀県の県庁所在地大津駅 乗降客数の多い高槻駅も通過してしまうんですね、他の地域ではあり得ないような気がする、新快速様様かなgood👍

乗車したことがありますが、美濃太田-岐阜間は単線非電化区間で130km/h出ています。すごいスピードです。直線区間です。

Saya suka naik kereta api karena banyak pemandangan indah disetiap rutenya. Alam Jepang bagus ya pemandangan nya saya suka. Tp kenapa klu kereta nya msk terowongan lampunya tdk dinyalakan gelap dan menakutkan. Salam buat semua penumpang diperjalanan bersama kereta ini semoga selalu lancar dan selamat sampai tujuan. 👍👍👍

Yes, but, seeing that there are electric wires along the whole route, why is it that this was not an electric train, instead of a polluting diesel?

I love watching these in cab rides. Great to see different countries and towns. Although when I see a junction I want to know where the other tracks go as well. Maybe Google could do ‘street View’ for railways!
