Ave, Lionheart! 1) Are you trading with all possible factions? You're not at war with Palmyra, are you? If not - trade with them - even if it is for a turn or two. When war comes - turn their neighbours against them. 2) Isn't Egypt your client state? That should be a wealthy province - trade with them. 3) The war with the Gothi is going to come soon. Buff up Dacia's garrisons. Dacia is the gateway to Thracia and the heartland of your empire. It is higly probable, that it is going to be a defensive war for you - at least for a while. 4) Ravage Sicily! Your forces should conduct a systematic pillage campaign - to draw out your enemies and confuse them. By drawing your enemies South you will make it easier for Aurelian to get to Rome. 5) When Aurelian reaches Rome - send that army from Dyrrachium by sea - to reinforce him and to garrison Rome as he moves south. 6) Once you take back Italy, chase the remnants of the pretenders with a small army and a middle sized fleet. 7) Your first major enemy should be Tetricus. But donot attack him from Cisalpine Gaul. This is where they will be waiting for you. Defend Italy and attack his soft, exposed underbelly instead - Southern Gaul (Massalia for example). 8) Once the war with Tetricus starts, send the army from Carthage to attack Tetricus' client states in Spain. The goal is not to win, but to take the initiative and not to let them help Tetricus by harrassing you. 9) Look at the rosters of your enemies and addjust your armies. You need some anti cavalry tools. 10) Could you please recruit a spy? 11) Please remember what I said on that Seleucid campaign - many many moons ago - it's not about the cities, but about the annihilation of their armies. It's not about Rome. It's about the Roman empire. Ok, that's me done. I hope I still manage to make some sense. Regards M

The Sun God's Empire: Part 1: Pear 1: Aurelian ran a hand through his hair and resisted the urge to slam his fist on the tabletop. Across the table from him one of his attendants babbled on about the ‘dire situation’ his empire was in, as if he didn’t know. The stone walls of the brightly lit room reverberated with his inane speech, bouncing the pitiful tone back into his ears excruciatingly. “...and if no action is taken, there is nothing to prevent them from sweeping south and west into Iberia once more, and who can say what devastation will result from that! The west will succumb, and if they fall they’ll take with them…” Aurelian’s fingers curled and straightened as he tried to compose himself. Before him, spread out across the table, was a map of the empire. It was a map that he knew well, one whose borders had stood immovable for generations. No longer. Now the east, resurgent under a new dynasty, threatened to take on the expansionist dreams of dozens of Mesopotamian empires before them, and take a lasting hold of Europe. He needed the eastern provinces to be strong, and instead they had broken away and taken half of Rome’s food supply with them. Queen Zenobia of this new Palmyrene Empire was someone Aurelian struggled to get a picture of. She was better than the Sassanids at least, but supporting her in holding the enemy back would only strengthen her bid for independence… it was enough to give a man an aneurysm. As if that wasn’t enough, this ‘Gallic Empire’ was sapping resources away from a Rome that desperately needed them. Rome had kept the Barbarian at the gates for centuries, but now that was becoming impossible. Even now, the savages were in Roman lands, pillaging and looting as was their nature. Aurelian could feel an artery pulsing in his temple. He should have thrown himself off a cliff before he had let himself become emperor of this. _Perhaps Quintillus would have made a better emperor_ , he mused. But no, the legions had refused to recognise his authority for a reason. Tyrannical dynasties had ruined Rome from the core, and bowing to another emperor for no other reason than for being brother of the last one was like throwing Rome into the fire, and once his last remnants of support in Italy were crushed, that at least could be prevented. A strong ruler was what Rome needed now, an emperor of soldiers as the first emperors had been; the only thing that could hold this fractious people together against chaos. No-one else could do what had to be done: his men knew that, and he knew that. If he couldn’t do it, then unimaginable darkness would follow; and for a champion of Sol, such as he was, darkness was a force he could not abide with. Dimly aware that the annoying man was still running his mouth about grave threats and imminent doom, Aurelian snapped and brought his hand down on the table in a sudden motion that made the attendant jump. The table shook as Aurelian rose. The timid man across from him slunk back and was silent. “Is there anything else?” Aurelian offered. “I-I-I’m sorry if I offended you, your majesty.” the attendant whimpered “Only, the senators want to know what you intend to do.” The senate; a laughable institution. Aurelian brushed a hand over the map, covering his empire from the Atlantic to the far reaches of the Black Sea. Fractured, dissonant, crumbling; was this the end of Rome? Would Emperor Aurelian live to see the end of the world? He set his jaw and looked the attendant dead in the eye “Well then, tell them this: I intend to save this broken empire. The sun god has returned to Rome.” Hi guys, I’m A Humble Pear, you might know me from my stories on the Maratha or Prussia series. For Empire Divided I’m teaming up with ImperatorGamer and Centurion Titus to take turns to to write a part each for the duration of the series one after the other, picking up where the last one left off! That’s it from me, next part you can expect Centurion Titus, and ImperatorGamer after that. We hope you enjoy!

Lionheart, to stabilize your food, you should focus on upgrading your farm settlements in Dacia, Africa, and Sicily. They provide food per EVERY province so after you upgrade them, you won't need to worry about food for a very long time.
@Nikola24able7 жыл бұрын
Willie Zhang I believe that was changed now it only gives food for that particular province and province that borders that one. Could be wrong but I do believe I read it in patch notes
@victuz7 жыл бұрын
Nikola24able No, all the provinces share/import the food from each other. You can make a *self sustainable* province system (that is harder and costly in the beginning but in the end it worth every second of it) or a province system that helps itself by *separate sectors* (it's easy to make in the beginning but can cause you many troubles if enemies overrun the province, making you pass through food or money shortages.

Man, that research tree looks more like a history lesson than a gameplay mechanic! I love it! Also, when it comes to the pronunciation of ancient latin, there are really only two things to keep in mind. Always pronounce C as K, and the word stress, for which the basic rule is that if a word has more than three syllables, then the stress falls on the second to last one, and if it has less than three syllables, the stress falls on the first syllable. There's a bit more to it than that depending on a number of things, but for the purpose of this campaign I think the basics will suffice ;P

If you take all of a faction's settlements then their army will face massive attrition penalties, but it doesn't go away instantly. That's why you didn't fail your Odryssian Campaign, remember? Athens took your Dacian provinces, but you were able to go north and conquer a barbarian settlement and then expanded from there.

It's actually because you lose reliability for ending a treaty before 10 turns have passed. War counts as one of those treaties, and since it's at the campaigns start he hasn't been at war for those 10 turns.

Just incase you didn't notice Lionheart, you got one more settlement called Petrodava in Dacia that isn't under your control. It belongs to the Gothi. You don't have to take this one straight away since both of agreed to a peace treaty. Just send Aurelian west as you plan to, but leave a small army just in case. When the time is right, you can use that army to take the last settlement to complete the province and maybe wipe the Gothi out. Not sure if alternatively you could ask them to surrender it through diplomacy.

Reliability is a global variable, so it won't change depending on who you're doing diplomacy with. Ending wars within 10 turns of starting them hurts your reliability. The wars you're in at the start of a campaign are counted as having started from turn 1, so you can't end them until turn 11 without taking a reliability hit. This is true for Rome 2, Attila, and both Warhammer games. Not sure about ToB or 3K, but probably.

Thinking on it now, the Warhammer games were cool, but that's all they were... cool. There's no depth to them like the historical titles like Shogun II, Rome II, and Atillia, like internal factions and politics. I really think that, despite the fewer mechanics, the historical titles are much more superior to the Warhammer titles.

Personally, I'm more into the idea of a Shogun III or Empire II; I feel like they expand more on those eras now that they have new engines and province/region mechanics to work with. I wouldn't say no to a Total War title set in ancient China either.
@DustandFlour7 жыл бұрын
Yes! So much could be done with ancient China! All the different eras with all the different kingdoms.. Just Asia in general could be a very interesting setting for a total war game. My heart dropped when i saw Thrones of Brittania as the next historical release.. To the be lifted again in the knowledge that the saga games are spinoffs and not major titles. I'm really hoping for an Asian setting in the next major historical title!
