Honestly, I feel so bad for Elisabeth, the owner of the house. Often I don't realise that behind these messy houses created by the renter, are also those who rented it out to them. Her reaction is so understandable. If I would put myself in her shoes, I would be angry and too stunned for words too. Especially with how unconsidered Sophie is an clueless to why Elisabeth would react badly to the state of the house. I can bring up a lot of sympathy for the people who created the mess. I understand how their life can turn like that (mine also almost did at one point), but my heart really breaks for Elisabeth. I barely see anyone talking about her, but I really feel for her. It was the house she built with her late husband... and a couple trashing it and using the excuse like "it was already not in perfect condition", I can imagine how it not only makes her angry, but fuel her grief. Everything is destroyed in that house, walls, cupboards, flooring, bathroom, everything... it wil cost her so much money to remodel it again. Such a sad story. I truly hope the couple gets the help they need for their hoarding problems, because if they don't, after this, they will do this again 100% for sure. I even think the other house also looks like this... these 2 women are absolutely hoarders and need help for their major mental illnesses and ocd. Just cleaning their home is not gonna help in the long run. Not even for a week... But I also hope Elisabeth also get the help she need, processing this experience. I bet it is traumatizing to find your house you built with your lare husband in a state like this. It is such a bad and sad situation

Yes, I also feel for Elisabeth, especially since she's probably elderly, or close to it, given she'd have been an adult when it was built by her and her husband, then was lived in for 30 years, her husband passing, etc. so she would no longer have the physical abilities, energy and support, and possibly finances, she would have had when the house was first build. I can't even imagine the grief and anger she must be feeling to have something that would obviously have meant so much to her be treated so badly.

I feel very bad for Elisabeth. But also for Sofie. Anyone who let's this happen and who claims she didn't trash the place has serious mental health issues. It's very common for people who suffer like that to not be in touch with reality. We don't have to pick sides, it's just super sad for everyone involved and I hope they will all get the help they need, beyond the practical work of tackling this mess that Auri already did for them.

@@sabrinamaurer2543 True about the yard but I'm wondering if she had wanted/tried to inspect the house earlier, after seeing the yard, and was denied entrance. In the video I think it was mentioned that she hadn't been allowed in to inspect ...or something to that effect. Without knowing the entire back story we can only assume.

Wow she really did an amazing job cleaning that house. The tenants really need to seek help for the hoarding problem. They really damaged the property, especially the wood floors. The wood is gonna have to be replaced. An exterminator for the rats and bugs also needs to be called. But the cleaning alone would cost thousands of dollars. Auri and the gang really saved the day!

I knew a parent and teenager who had a house that they never cleaned and had like four cats and they would clean their floor with just bleach. Their wood floor in the kitchen. Completely stripped of varnish and wax and everything that could protect it. it seemed to be the only thing they ever cleaned which was quite strange to me.

It makes me sad right away because I can see the hurt or loss that someone is having here. The help that you provide is priceless and part of a recovery process. Unfortunately when you suffer from severe mental and/or chronic illness even getting out of bed is near impossible. Throw in having to work to live and higher living costs for doctors and medicine as well as everything being more difficult for them and having less total energy and you end up exhausted before you get home and have no energy to clean. I saw a wheelchair which likely means at least one of them is disabled. Auri also mentioned they have little to no friends meaning no help and likely even lower mental health. Chronic/Mental disabled people unfortunately get really screwed with how our society is set up. In addition it seems the girlfriend recently went through a big loss and hoarding is a coping strategy. They likely cannot afford therapy to work over the hoarding as such the issues persist and the items must be kept.

I understand what you’re saying, but we have to remember on the hoarders shows. They are dealing with family who have lived with these hoarders for years and we don’t know how compassionate those people have been for how long before they could not take it anymore. Secondly, those people did not get the opportunity to just come in and clean. They’re actually working with the hoarders to keep them from doing this again therefore that’s going to require some uncomfortable conversations and unfortunately seem a little uncomfortable for the hoarders. I don’t think it’s a fair comparison as with Auri gets to come in and just clean she does not necessarily deal with a psychological component. And people are as nice as they can be but the people who are not hoarders, but are friends and family also are uncomfortable with trying to help when they have to deal with the hoarder and their justifications without professional help to explain what’s mentally going on. Compassion for all. ❤

They're also likely chronically ill as there was a wheelchair. My guess is they're poor as most chronically ill folk are and can't afford repairs. After working several hours in more physical pain then most people feel in a week while having no energy cleaning is not a top priority. Add in little to no friends to help which also means even more poor mental health. While I'm not saying what they did was right their only other option may have been to be homeless

It's really easy to judge her, but she DID end up getting help to clean the apartment so that the landlord doesn't end up with all the mess. You have to remember that it is a mental illness, and a huge cleanup like this would've cost thousands, which a lot of people simply cannot afford. It's really sad most of all. Sad for everybody, the landlord, the tenants, everyone. I don't think it's right to be mad at her, of course it's terrible! But it is a mental illness, we can hope they've gotten help for it :)

Hoarding after a traumatic death is very common. This story I’ve heard many times: a loved one dies, a grief stricken family member inherits all their stuff, and everything turns into a reminder. Every piece of trash could be the last thing your loved one touched. It’s a really severe and unique form of depression and mourning. And it destroys so many relationships with others, your ability to get a home (bad tenant history!), keep a job, clean yourself, and stay healthy. I really hope this cleaning can open the flood gates for Sophie’s gf and she realizes it’s time to make an adjustment and to re-establish her connection to reality. Hoarding like this can come with so much denial, lashing out, defensiveness….it is so hard for people in this state of mind to come to terms with what they have done. Many never escape.

I don't know where this house is located but where I come from, a landlord doesn't have much power over their house once they have a tenant. They are not allowed to enter the home when the tenant doesn't allow it, dosen't matter if they have a good reason or not. It could be the same for them as well. Also it was mentioned that the husband of the landlord died so the landlord could be of higher age and didn't have the strengh. Hoarding is a type of OCD and can take many forms. In any form, it can be a serious mental health illness. Besides being distressing by definition, it’s a type of anxiety that easily leads to isolation, self-harm, substance abuse, and suicide. Not to mention the adverse health reactions to dust and mold and danger of being crushed or burned in the hoard. Normally, I would’ve let this comment slide because it’s a hope for treatment without judgement. In this case, I feel like it’s important to acknowledge that OCD hoarding is, by itself, a severe mental illness and should be treated as such. I share your hope for treatment. Otherwise, that house is going to look the same in a few weeks. Both the people living in the home deserve better than this. Very living creature does.

This looks like the home of a true hoarder and definitely the worst one I’ve seen you have to clean up. We usually use teams of people here in the US to clean up hoarders houses because there’s so much work! They usually have to put dumpsters out in the driveway (like you had to), to put all of the trash in. I’m glad to see you got some help. When dealing with areas that have lots of mold or rodent droppings, you need to wear masks all the time. They're far (!) better than those where the residents are shown and blamed for their problems, where self-appointed experts make jokes and accusations rather than help those people. I have been watching your videos for a while now. I have ADHD so keeping things clean used to be a struggle for me. As I got older, I became sorta obsessed with organization. My boyfriend and parents told me that I over-organized, but I do what works for me. So about two months ago I got an apartment after living with my parents for about ten years. It wasn't what I was expecting. It was so filthy that I literally cried for weeks. Since then, I have taken what I learned from you, and my apartment is livable now. As a matter of fact, today is the day that I finally finish getting the place together. So thank you. If it weren't for you, I don't think I would have been able to do all of it. And just to clarify why it has taken two months, it's because I'm disabled, the apartment is huge, my boyfriend works 55+ hours a week so I've had to do everything basically on my own, and I've also been helping my 70 year old parents get settled into their apartment.

Sorry Auri, but this time I can’t have any sympathy with the tenants. I’m only happy the landlady got some help here, and little damage control. Though as many have pointed out already, that whole house probably has to be renovated. That poor woman. For her this was probably her retirement. And now this. Heart breaking. I so feel for this landlady. I can’t imagine what she must have felt. Just because the tenant paid rent on time, does not mean they can destroy this house. And saying it was already in a bad condition when they moved in just shows that they have zero regrets and responsibility for what they have done. Additionally getting your help with cleaning that place, which is already hard enough and still demanding you to go through the dirty stuff and putting some aside, cause they want to keep it? Unbelievable. So what are they gonna do with that rat infested stuff? Bring it into the other apartment, I assume.

@@sunshinegirl1967 I suppose the landlady didn’t check on them, since the rent came on time and there were no complains about smell or stuff like that? The landlady might have found out earlier, if it was in an apartment complex, but since it seems to be in the middle of the woods, there are no close neighbours. Finns are pretty private and I guess the landlady just let them be. 🤔 But I do not believe the house was in that state, when they moved in. Landlords in Finland are responsible for every repair in those apartments (like appliances and what not). If that house was in a state of disrepair when they moved in, that would have been taken care of before.
