I don't like how Majin Buu's explosion hurts the user. Like come on, he regenerated very shortly after. Oh well, it makes sense.

Too bad to know that in-between the explosions from the Saibamen and Super Buu, Self-Destructions just left the user's sacrifices be for naught. Super Buu's was the most strategic one because of his regenerative powers and Android 16's was the most useless because Bulma removed it because she and her father feared that it could destroyed the Earth if the bomb was still intact.

Cell's self destruct somewhat worked though, it killed Goku (as well as King Kai, Bubbles and Gregory) and it made Cell stronger.

But the original plan of eliminating Earth still failed, because of Goku's Instant Transmission, and later failed again because of Vegeta's focus blast that distracted Cell, which gave Gohan the advantage to kill Cell once and for all.
