This is so true. It was more exciting to play. WWE 2K games are realistic and you can do many different things you couldn't do in the past but the one thing you can't do is have as much fun as you did in THQ games. The arcade and over the top style made it fun. I would take fun over the realism and simulation any day. We just want to beat the hell out of our opponent and pin them 1-2-3...LOVE WWE SmackDown SYM

I agree. At least in the old Smackdown games after Shut Your Mouth, they would keep Jeff Hardy's Swanton Bomb in the WWE games in the create-a-wrestler moveset even though Jeff Hardy wasn't in any WWE games after this till WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2008. But compared to these WWE games being made by 2k nowadays, the Swanton Bomb has looked awful in WWE games sinced SmackDown vs RAW 2011. Instead of keeping in the beautiful looking Swanton Bomb that Jeff Hardy had in the very last WWE game he was (SmackDown vs RAW 2010) for the games that came after that in the create-a-wrestler preset moves or (at least in the create-a-finisher). The developers removed it.

Things that still strike me about this great game. The roster, and the fact that its editing section had numerous classic wrestler faces ready to be made into a full legend superstar (you can find the guides online, I added around 25 legends to the standard roster. And the Royal Rumble. In this version, you could be smashed over the top rope in any way, punched kicked thrown, all the new games require wrestlers to be weakened until they can be eliminated, and only special animations for the throw out. This game was so seamless pure action wise, with my Roster, when I play it, it reminds me of Wrestlefest. I should add Demolition, then I'd have the full 91 Wrestlefest Roster lol

This right here, along with Here Comes the Pain, are not only in the top 5 best wrestling games of all time, but are the best of the Smackdown and SVR series. The gameplay, story mode, high selection of matches and the backstage brawling makes these games damn near flawless. They did make finishers a little too powerful in this game, though, that seems to be the main complaint.

I think it works, though. Finishers are supposed to be powerful, however not every wrestler's finisher is a finishing move. Also some finishers like Jericho's Lionsault Pin were auto-wins, especially if the CPU uses it.

Smackdown series' wrestling canvas were much bigger than the 2k series. I've noticed the proverbial wrestling ring was much bigger back then vs the squared mats past '09, also. I understand zooming the camera plays a big part in that also, but there is still a difference in size.

Lita's Moonsault was glorious. And Jericho's Lionsault. Heck, most of the high-flying finishers look good. Anyone remember that Stunner that could be spammed? It didn't required a finisher slot, but Stone Cold could hit the move out of standing grapple. It was a weaker stunner that would prop the opponent back to their feet and stunned for a bit. And, if the opponent wasn't quick enough to reverse the move, Stone Cold could hit the move over and over, until earning a finisher slot for the real Stunner.
