The weather on Earth is indeed influenced by our star, the Sun. The Sun's energy drives Earth's weather patterns, and this interaction has a significant impact on shaping the future of our planet. Here's how: 1. Solar Radiation: The Sun emits energy in the form of solar radiation, including heat and light. This energy is crucial for maintaining Earth's temperature and climate. The amount of solar radiation that reaches Earth's surface affects weather patterns, such as temperature variations, wind patterns, and atmospheric pressure systems. 2.Solar Wind: The Sun also releases a constant stream of charged particles called the solar wind. Earth's magnetic field protects us from the majority of these particles, but some interact with our planet's magnetosphere. These interactions can create phenomena like the Northern and Southern Lights (auroras) and influence the behavior of Earth's upper atmosphere. 3. Climate Change: Long-term changes in solar activity can impact Earth's climate. While the Sun's energy output remains relatively stable, variations in solar radiation and the intensity of solar storms can affect Earth's climate over extended periods. Scientists study these variations to better understand natural climate change and distinguish them from human-induced climate change. 4. Space Weather: The Sun also produces space weather events, such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections. These energetic outbursts can release massive amounts of charged particles and electromagnetic radiation into space. When these particles interact with Earth's magnetic field, they can disrupt satellite communications, power grids, and other technological systems. Understanding space weather is essential for protecting our technology-dependent society. By studying the Sun's influence on Earth's weather and climate, scientists can better predict future climate patterns, track solar activity, and develop strategies to mitigate potential risks. It's an exciting field of research that helps us understand how our star shapes the future of our planet.

2:55 Is there any correlation between the fires in Hawaii and the CME impact on Earth -- both on Aug 8th? Typically, with a CME impact, you can work out the exact location and time that it hits Earth. There were certainly communication problems.

No worries. This will be a new normal for another five years and then things will go quiet again for about three before the Sun wakes up again. As far as solar activity goes, the 1940s-1990s had it much worse than we do.
@sc2543
@sc2543 Жыл бұрын
I disagree the 1940's-1990's we're much better at creating reliable, more predictable seasons ; more solar activity equals better more perdicatable terrestrial weather, aka season's on the ground & I imagine better Aurora too boot 🌌 🌎⚡️☀️🙌🌙🌏

I'm noticing that most of the Sun's activity is from the "Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn", (I don't know what those regions on the Sun are called). Why are there few if any around the poles? Is the Sun's rapid rotation the reason, the centrifugal motion shaping the magnetic lines and causing the interference?

Yes, exactly. Those bursts were broadband way up into the GHz range. You literally heard the Sun "screaming." Even direct radio communications can be affected if the Sun is in the line of sight of your antenna's reception or transmission vector. Nice catch, actually!

I have heard several amateur radio operators comment how poor propagation has been considering how good it should be at this point in the solar cycle and how good the solar flux has been. I too have noticed the signals being weaker and fewer than a a year ago.
@TamithaSkov
@TamithaSkov Жыл бұрын
Yes, sadly, the poor propagation is due to more frequent solar flares and solar storms as we move towards solar maximum. It takes more than just high solar flux to create good propagation. However, knowing when to favor the dayside (during solar storms) or the nightside (during solar flares) is half the battle.

why should the experts worry about what is happening on the back of the sun? they should be worried about what is happening on the front of the sun as it will impact earth. however maybe know what is happening on the back can allow forcasting when it comes to the front.
