Actually, the storm had yet to arrive when I posted this (about 14 hours ago). It appears to be passing Earth right now. Its nearby, but not hitting Earth. The activity from yesterday was actually from the fast solar wind stream ahead of the solar storm. That stream is waning now.

@JoshuaGrisewood Believe it or not, yes it can! Especially near the equinoxes when the effect at Earth is amplified. This becomes a bigger deal during the declining phase of the solar cycle when the coronal holes that are the source of fast solar wind get really large and persist on the Sun over multiple solar rotations. It's a fun time. GEO satellite operators hate that period of recurrent storming at G2, sometimes even G3 levels!

Yeah, it is turning out this storm is too far to the east to give us anything much. From the data, it appears to be passing Earth now without much impact. that being said, Im quite relieved because the emergency responders to Hurricane Helene dont need additional headaches from space weather to impede their work.
