No matter what justification our politicians and their apologists use.... killing an innocent civilian whether it be during war time or not is ALWAYS murder. Terrorizing civilians with bombs that could be dropped on their heads at any moment, destroying their homes, killing their loved ones, and causing irreparable life long PTSD and other health conditions is ALWAYS an atrocity. No one is defending Hamas' terrorist murderous actions against civilians, but Israel's in the position of power, and their use of that power in response has been 10x worse when it comes to murder and misery of innocent civilians. You know... sadly I was ignorant of what's been going on this region until recently, and the more I learn about Israel's actions with their "settlements" in the West Bank (aka forced removal of Palestinians from their land and Israelis taking that land for themselves while defending it from behind well armed security forces) that are illegal (FYI) and have lead to murders and illegal detainments of Palestinian civilians, the more it's clear that Israel is not completely innocent in the heightening conflicts in this region. Administrations from both sides of the wall share blame here. But if we're being honest, what real power does Palestinian leadership actually hold here? What can they actually do to stop illegal settlement building in their territories? A whole lot of nothing if we're being honest. As to Hamas... as most people are now coming to learn, the Israeli government has been either directly funding, or allowing funding to get to Hamas for years now, and there hasn't actually been an election in Gaza since 2006 when Hamas won power through a minority of votes, while terrorizing their own civilians and opposing parties. This idea that Palestinian civilians chose and support their leaders is hogwash. Sure, they support them, while at the end of a gun barrel. There is only one truth in all of this mess that all humans should accept. Palestinians are no less human than Israelis or any other person on this planet and they deserve to be treated with the same care, respect, and dignity that every human being deserves. Especially the children who have no say in any of this. People...we are now 75 years into this conflict... it's time to start moving on real solutions that stop this endless cycle of murder and atrocity. We need to stop allowing national leaders from spitting make believe solutions into the wind that no one would ever accept. At this point, given how much land Israel has taken for themselves from Palestinian territories, and how much poverty and misery has been created in Gaza and the West bank, the only possible solution here will involve Israel and possibly the rest of the world making real sacrifices to the benefit of Palestinian civilians. There is no choice if we want to end this. We need to put away our entitlement shtick, and start to do the right thing. The moral thing. Protect all humans.
