Let me introduce you to Pomme. Her real name is Claire Pommet and her stage name is Pomme which means Apple in french. She is 26 yo, from Lyon in France, and is multi-talented : amazing voice, great instrumentalist (she plays guitar, autoharp, piano, cello, vocoder, banjo, synthetizer, …), and she composes and write most of her songs. She erupted on the french musical scene about 8 years ago, with some covers and duets on YT, when she was 18 yo . Then late 2017 she had her first stage performance in Paris and she released her first Album "A peu près". She wrote 2 songs on this first album. But since then, she has composed/written ALL songs from their next 2 albums: the second album "Les Failles", released in 2019 and the 3rd called "Consolation" released late august. She is getting a lot of recognition in France: she has won the Best Newcomer Album award in Les Victoires de la musique 2020 (France music award ceremony) and she has won the Best Female Artist award in the 2021 edition. She starts to be recognized on the international scene as well: - Aurora is a fan of her (Pomme also is a fan of Aurora since 2015) and Pomme was the first featuring on an Aurora album (wonderful duet called "Everything matters" kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4mbk4ytoZ6lgcU ) , they started a nice friendship, we can expect some additional collab in the future. - Billie Eilish also stated she is a fan and subscribed to Pomme’s channel: when she was on french radio, she talked about Pomme and asked Pomme to text her so they can get in touch. Later Pomme said they did. Again Pomme is a fan of Billie and made a very beautiful french cover of Bad Guy. - She is also highly praised by Julia and Angus Stone or Asaf Avidan that picked her for the opening of their concerts in France in 2018 . Julia invited her later to cover her hit Big Jet Plane with her autoharp on the album Songs for Australia (record from many artists to fund the battle against fires in Australia) and Julia , when she decided to sing a song in french, also asked Pomme to write the lyrics of a french translation of her hit Dance. Pomme plays autoharp since she is 14 yo, she explained she discovered this instrument as an absolute fan of the folk and country music ( fan of Joan Baez, Dolly Parton, ...) She defines her music as Authentic, Acoustic and Sad. She said there is always hope in her songs however. For some of her songs, hope is visible at the surface and some others, you have to dig down. Her songs relate to the Nature and the environment, to her own story and family, to different social issues (eg La lumiere is a song on Alzheimer's disease) and also her experience as a young lesbian girl. She said she is transforming her dreams and nightmares into songs or visuals for her videos. Her lyrics are poetic, she loves to leave room for personal interpretation and reinterpretation. This is something she discussed with Aurora recently in a live stream and they were both in the same direction here (as for many other things BTW). You can check this incredible conversation (in english, after the first couple minutes from Pomme in french): kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4C0iHmLoL2lg5I. She is also apparently a writer as she just released a book for the youth named "Sous les paupières". Aurora is absolutely fantastic, and sweet lil apple Pomme, they make such a stunning team. I'm absolutely blown away by Aurora, I have been since 2016 when I found her, or something like this, she's on my daily soundtrack ever since.......Aurora is one of a kind, not only an amazing artist, but mainly, Aurora is such precious human being, I truly believe she's a healer, with all that Love and Magic.....I love your reflections.......I'm 69, musician, piano training since age 4, basically a R&R person, and Aurora struck me since the first moment......guess she does the same to anyone that has the inmense pleasure to listen to what she has to say which is good always it's impossible for her to bring you down. I love the piano arrangement in this song, sounds so French to me......absolutely gorgoeus.

The first few times hearing this song....I did not appreciate the melody in the vocal...but then in a split second when on maybe my 3rd or 4th listen, it hit me like a slap on the back of my head....and now this melody is absolutely amazing to me. Everything about this song, which you analysed so thoroughly --and it was so delightful--, takes the listener to the liminal doorway of awareness that inspired Aurora, perhaps on the road, one dreamy night. There was also a lot of thoughtfulness on her part in seeking French lyrics from Pomme. A gem! Thank you !

I saved the image you stopped the video on at the end. Aurora's stance - perfectly upright with her hands resting lightly on her abdomen and solar plexus - so evocative of her level of self-awareness and groundedness. This is a favorite of mine, as well. I had to listen to it several times before the sheer depth of the lyrics started really catching my attention. The Buddha could not have said it better...and she sang it, so we can all join in. :) Thank you for the musical breakdown. I'm not a musician, so although I hear what is happening, I don't necessarily know why something is special musically. So, wow!!

Think I understand your perspective. Went to her concert in Trondheim on Saturday and her slowed, stripped version of “Temporary High” made me rethink my interpretation of both the lyrics and the meaning of the song… And I think this is one of the things Aurora master perhaps best of all… letting her audience experience her music in different ways and by that always making us reflect on her intentions with the song…

Honestly, this song has one of the greatest melodies I have ever heard. I bought it on vinyl after hearing that "like a b-a-a-a-a-a-b-y" line just once LOL.I recently visited Bergen in Norway and used this song as a soundtrack for a compilation of clips (it was in my head the whole time I was there tbh!) - it is also a perfect accompaniment for a train journey across the Fjords, with it's trickety-trock rhythm and echoey vocals. In other "you" news, I finally got to see Jinjer live last night in NYC. Somehow I was able to wander up to the front and lean on center stage, and spent the whole show looking up at Tati. They/she/it was sensational. You are responsible for all of this. Cheers!

The live is better because Pomme and Aurora could harmonize together and this is stunning. The record was done during COVID restrictions and Pomme couldn’t travel. I love these detailed musical breakdowns. I am completely ignorant when it comes to music. I failed junior high band class. I am a Philistine. But I absolutely love music. It's my first go-to when I get off work, my constant companion when I'm cooking, and the only thing I listen to in the car. I can't explain why some songs get me lots more than others, and why I dislike other music. But voice specialists, like you, who break things down into the little chunks they're made of are beginning to make me feel a little more knowledgeable and may eventually help me to understand the music that I love so much. I see you've reacted to just one additional Aurora song. It'd be great to see your reactions to more. Clearly you've listened to plenty of her. She is a true gem. Share some more with us.

You summed up everything I heard and felt without knowing how to word it. I found Aurora's River first randomly and it hit me like a ton of bricks; the message and her voice were captivating, packed with emotion and a style I'd never heard with such ethereal beauty and deep meaning. Like a master poet knows how to invoke imagery, Aurora's voice and style draw you in, bring up the emotions and bring a sense of feeling heard. Now I'm about hooked to this one... Same excitement to show my disabled father. We grew up musical and music is a part of his very being. After hearing The River, he was hooked and looked up more about her on his own. When I showed him this one he just watched in a trance to this beautiful haunting masterpiece. Finding an artist like Aurora and now Pomme who's music just speaks to you is a special thing and very powerful. Not to mention Aurora as a person in addition to her music is a force to be reckoned with. Unique, quirky, inspiring, and it's amazing how she's just naturally an inspiration. Her music has become an important part of my collection.
@taccamine83122 жыл бұрын
Fantastic analysis. Your enthusiasm is very inspiring. I feel this song exemplifies the beauty of collaboration (which has not previously been Aurora's forte) between equally beautiful sensitive beings. Aurora made the recordings for this album in a studio they set up for her at a mythical chateau in Norway (The Barony of Rosendal). A French nobleman who was a particular lover of music and art once lived in the castle. She wanted to honor this man with some French influence on this song. She asked Pomme (who had previously been in contact with her about another project). Pomme contributed a text about two friends who pick flowers at night to enjoy them in the morning light ( The Barony is particularily famous for it's rose garden). She seems to have an unlimited vocal range and a warm French expression. A match made in heaven. The piano is played by Askjell Solstrand and (towards the end)appears very inspired by how French musette accordion can be played. He is a fantastic musician and producer, who, alongside Magnus Skylstad, has probably been among Aurora's closest producer collaborators since the beginning (not a producer here). Among other things, they did the"Infections of a different kind" album together (In another castle-studio in France 😊).

Few things are better in life than listening to someone with know-how allowing themselves to enthusiastically dive into a recent discovery of passion. This is the defacto opening song (after a brief prelude) of her latest (concept-like) album. Setting the perfect tone and giving us a heads up: Everything that follows will matter. Songs will mirror each other both musically and topically in the lyrics, thus pay attention. Thanks for these minutes of insight and musical excess and passion.

Your analysis, as usual, is fantastic. This is one of about half a dozen absolutely stunning songs off this album. I suspect that the construction of that run was a natural choice by Aurora. She has an amazing feel for how to create intriguing melodies. For spotting where to lean into certain intervals to accentuate the feeling she's representing. I love that you talked about the French pronunciation as well. I don't speak French, but there is a particular sound from Pomme. I believe it is called 'throat inflection', and as an English speaker it makes her French vocal so interesting, and enjoyable to listen to.

Hello again! So wonderful to see a pro on voices take on my absolute favorite singer in all categories. This is one of my favorites and together with Pomme, the arrangement and the instrumentalists make a masterpiece in my eyes. This type of music is now played too rarely and never in new pop music, which makes it timeless. There's no point in me going in and trying to beat you to the punch in vocal skills etc. I'm someone who listens with my heart and not so much with my brain. But for me the greatness of this song is the storytelling (As always AURORA has) her ability to go very high and it still sounds extremely enjoyable and the phrasing. Thank you once again for your warm and genuine loving for Aurora (and this time Pomme) it warms an old man's heart. A suggestion for another saw with Aurora is Aurora - Potion of love - Vevo live. This song has so much to watch and listen to. Her extremely small but clear expressions of emotion in both voice and body are one of the most beautiful things I've seen. Thanks again

You are the 3rd youtube vocal coach I have seen loving and praising this song and this performance, so I guess it really is very special 🙂 I like it as well, though it is not my top song from the album. "This Could Be A Dream" from the same album "The Gods We Can Touch" is more beautiful for me, though it is probably not a vocal masterpiece like this, but the lyrics and her voice are just amazing and will easily make you cry. Unfortunately there is no live performance of the song yet. Here are quotes from Aurora about "Everything Matters" from Aurora wiki, 2nd quote is auto translated from a german article and it shows a bit: "It's a very strange story [...] a story I would like for people out there to figure out themselves. I contacted a French artist, Pomme, to write the ending for me. And it is beautiful. Sensual. And real. I do often feel like this world is trying to make me focus on all these great miracles. And somehow I feel like it makes me miss out on the small ones. And that is sad. Because the small miracles happen all the time. Sometimes several times a day. And I want to see all of them. Because everything matters." "I wrote it a long time ago, quite early in the process and I already knew with that song that it was a part of the vibration that I wanted the album to be. To me it's about - which is an important keyword for me, because it can be about something different for everyone -, but it's about two things. If you listen very carefully, it's a beautiful and a sad story. There's something ominous about it too. But also something extremely beautiful. It's about these people, the you and them me in the song, and they are going through something which forces them to think about life differently and they look at each other and they look around themselves and they just grasp that time is slipping out of their fingers too quickly. I look at everything and am imagining in the end of the song they drive this car out to a sunset and they watch one very last sunset together and... there's a fear that you miss out on all the beautiful things. There is so much beauty in this world, the small things as well."

Very nice reaction/analysis🤗 And I was with you till the end 👍😁 First time I heard this song I loved it instantly ❤️ It’s been on my playlist since January 😅😍 I love this whole album so much, but then I love everything Aurora does💕 On a livestream by Pomme, Aurora recounted how their collaboration came to be: "I made my album in a castle in Norway, and it has French history. And this man lived in this castle like hundreds of years ago, and he was French, Marcus Gerhard. And he loved art and music and he celebrated and invited people [...] and I thought it would be a nice way to honour this French castle by having you." Aurora later explained to Apple Music: "I don't normally do features. I knew a bit about [Pomme] because she's extremely sweet and very talented. I wanted to include some Frenchness on the opening song as a gift to the castle that gave me a lot of the inspiration to finish this album. I asked her if she could write the ending of my song in French, and she wrote a beautiful story about the flowers we picked in all of your favourite places. It is an ode to Baroniet (Baroness) Rosendal." Could you please react to Aurora with: “Through the eyes of a child” live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral in Norway) 2017😍 “Exhale Inhale” live at VEVO Also a song from her latest album 😍 “All is soft inside” live at KEXP Iceland 2018 A more energetic Aurora 😍

Would love to see what you have to say on some relatively unknown singers like Elsiane (who does an amazing duet titled “Smoke” with Amanda Mabro). Elsianne is Peruvian, sings in English, but has a very distinct way of singing with amazing control. It’s very dark and haunting. The other singer in the duet has this very bright sound that contrasts and compliments well. Their harmonies in the duet are very satisfying as well. Keep up the great work! Thanks!

You did a video about 6 months ago about The Warning, specifically their song "Choke." (And I loved it!) I think you should consider doing a video on their song "Evolve," because some of the musical things you critiqued about "Choke" were much better done in that song.

Even though this reaction video is a bit too long it is also amazing. Seeing how your enthusiasm comes so clearly through is captivating and funny, even if I only understand little of the musical terms 😂

I don't get to listen to music or watch YT much anymore due to work. However, my car ride play list is 31 songs, mostly AuRoRa and Kalandra. My ride to work isn't that long, and all I really want to hear is All My Demons, Churchyard and this by AuRoRa. And Ensom, Grizzly Man (cover) and Virkellghtens Etterklang by Kalandra. This and Grizzly Man get a rewind. Also, I can't skip Riverside by Agnes Obel. I just love these songs. Always hard to pick a fav AuRoRa song. It changes often, but right now this is it. Thx! I don't see Kalandra on your list. Plz try Ensom or Grizzly Man. Also from Norway.

Speaking of Folk, if you haven't heard Aurora accompany Wardruna in their song Helvegen, you've missed a wonderful performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ_Ohah-hZ6kadE

Oh yes! This song makes my week too, when I discovered it the first time. Also I'm so happy for this song because I didn't know pomme before. "Göttingen" is a very Cool cover from her.

You should react to ”Somewhere - The best duet ever“. The Titel says it all. I just saw the Band Within Temptation live in Zurich and Sharon is absolutly breathtaking. She might be an actual siren.😊

I enjoy it when you show off something you love that you are already familiar with. Sure, us giving you musical shock therapy is fun ::under breath... "Pisces":: but that's only the reaction half of reaction/analysis. I for one thoroughly enjoy the deep-dive as well. Though I don't understand music theory so much. And even after the verbal descriptions and keyboard examples, I can rarely hear the major's and minor's and naturals and intervals and on and on that gets you so fan-girl gooy puddley... but I find it fascinating and have been slowly learning bit by bit. Thank you for your channel @Julia Nilon!!

Thanks! If you didn't react to this, I would love to see reaction on "Churchyard" and "All is soft inside" on KEXP. And official video clips of Animal, Cure for me, Queendom, Apple tree, The River. Performance of Heathens. Lyric video of Blood in the wine, You keep me crawling. And documentary Once Aurora. And all interviews are great :)

OMG I asked this months ago on your discord. Not sure if you did this one following my request, but who cares, you finally did it 😂 You captured well the range of Pomme in this song, but believe me, she has not shown half of it here. I will send you a detail description about Pomme (you pronounced it right btw) in a separate comment. Pomme is a good friend of Julia Stone as well and she participated in the Songs for Australia album. So maybe you knew her already somehow? Did you note this incredible song instrumentation was smart enough to finish the french part with a piano in the french style of Yann Tiersen’s Amelie Poulain soundtrack?

I think I understand your obsession, Julia. We're in the presence of musical genius. Aurora is an astonishingly sensitive singer, telling us a story with her lyrics, and telling us how it feels with her voice. And, yeah, some completely gorgeous harmonies with Pomme. As an aside, before I forget, that metre - I was hearing it as 4/4 until you mentioned the triplet divisions, after which I started to hear it as 12/8. So that was interesting. If you like a haunting voice, please react to Blackbriar - Arms of the Ocean (acoustic live), or Madwoman in the Attic, or Mortal Remains, or Beautiful Delirium.

One of Pomme’s most beautiful song is titled Les oiseaux which means The Birds in french! You are so on point lol! And the song itself is matching your description of it. Listen to this acoustic live from Pomme and her autoharp in a small chapel kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqGxpYB7Yspjjrs
