Really great class! I like the idea of three W’s vs Lunar. Really good point about the Co2 retention on skip breathing. The music on this video is legit!
@michaelm.36412 жыл бұрын
I agree. The number of people that get tripped up on lunar in regular practice environments leads me to believe the 3 w’s which are already pretty universal outside firefighting, would be a better option so people have to think less in the moment when an emergency does happen.
@ryangentzler5713 Жыл бұрын
I would only change the order and start with where. The same reasoning we were taught L comes first in LUNAR. If your comms get cut, or stepped on, or anything else at the very least your last known location has been broadcast

I like the Wheel breathing technique but it should be mentioned that it will only work on Scott brand SCBAs with the VibeAlert

We trained on this technique with my dept. It does work on MSA scba's.
@arizonajostal4522 Жыл бұрын
@@Justinmoon81 you're probably just confusing Wheel breathing with a different technique. MSA SCBAs use a bell for an audible low pressure alarm located on the bottle connector or first stage regulator. They work differently and turning the bottle on and off will not save you any air on anything but a pack with Vibe alert.

@@arizonajostal4522My dept uses MSA packs. Do you know how the low pressure bell is activated? Is is just electronic?

Great info on calling mayday, As an alternative may I suggest the L.I.P. method, Same but different. Either way great info. LIP is L - location. I identity(who you are ) , P-Problem

I like the idea, of the 3 W's as this makes it easy however, IMO your first W should we Where as if things go bad real quick at least your where is know

what does "easy breathing" mean?
@trevorbell4106 Жыл бұрын
Basically when you are in a situation that requires help, the best thing you can do is "easy breathing" meaning to focus on slowing your breathing and conserve your bottle.

It is now LUNAR Location Unit Name Assignment Resources
@ryannelson8918 Жыл бұрын
many departments have moved away from the (slightly) more complex lunar acronym for the 3 w's due to simplicity and getting the most important info out during the first radio transmission.

SCBA training three victims two story house I entered with three man team I'm searching right on thermal Scott site pack found one victim extricated return to search notified team members my thermal went down blackout couldn't find my team members or see them now! the search carried on two more victims to recover fire attack team at stairway we checked air level as a team and continue upstairs 22% on bottle so flashing red search team continued search found no other victims fire team staged at stairway to exit as a team I just stepped out of the building air pack was depleted. Was a good training event for me I went to two Mayday conditions yet pressed on and now I understand don't step past Mayday conditions I should have exited the building when thermal went down but relied on Old School search techniques and carried on with the recovery do you think I should have discontinued the search or stayed in my course

Someone must have yelled that in your face when you were a probie. Nobody cares. Call it a bottle, a cylinder, an air tank, a pack, we all know what they mean. It’s like calling the circ saw a k-saw even though it’s a husky, just get the damn saw haha
