I always ties these on the larges size, # 14 on down to 8. With size 12 being the most useful. I fish it with a dropper and either a hare ear or PT nymph. I tend to tie them a little on the heavy hackled size. I had lots of success with them, prospecting for fish when its to early for Hoppers and the main hatches are about done, Mid to late june on to mid july. Thou there is no rule that you can tie it in gray , Olive and Black. Best week I ever had with them was in Northern Labrador fishing for Brook Trout. Lots of fish in the 4 to 8 lb range.

Well tied and great instruction. I caught a beautiful rainbow not three weeks ago on this pattern. A fast run with a bit of quiet pocket water within that I got the fly to stay in there just long enough to get the top water hit. I thought it was a small one until the line started stripping out. Last time I was out fishing, but a heck of a good memory until I can get out again.

Great video! The Ausable Wulff is my favorite attractor pattern also. I also like the Ausable Bomber. Thanks for your great work. I especially like how you go about splitting your wings. It's much better than fighting with the material.

Wish I'd gotten to the Ausable Wulff sooner, it's a pattern that deserves more attention than it gets. Same thing could be said for the whole Wulff series.

Felipe Souza, the reason the hackle is sized for the hook is because of proportions. It just makes it look better to the fish and fisherman, but usually you can get away with a size larger or smaller hackle, unless you are tying commercially, from my personal experience commercial flies should have correct proportions.

That fly is incredible, I can't wait to try them out. Is there any way that you could make a video on tying a Dave's Hopper? It's a really great pattern that i really need some help on, and i can not find a good video of it. Thanks for all that you guys do ~Austin~

Great video! thanks for share! i have some doubt about the feathers ... book says that i can use no more que one-and-a half to twice the width of the hook gape. however FIND hackles small hooks is not an easy task .. how much the size of the hackle influences the action of the fly?

Would you recommend buying Whiting's 100's packs, or saving up and buying a cape?
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 10 жыл бұрын
That is a tough question. I would say, if money allows, get a grizzly neck and a reddish brown neck then all other colors and sizes as 100's packs. If money were no object, I'd probably buy all necks.

Thanks. I have a grizzly 100's pack, but brown dry fly hackle at all. When do you think quantity's will go back to normal?

Can you also use calf body hair??????
@tightlinevideo
@tightlinevideo 10 жыл бұрын
Calf body hair is fine for the wings and I'd suggest using it in size 16 and below. Because it is straighter, you lose some the wild look to the fly (which I like) but that's OK.
