It is a real shame that trades like these were looked down upon for many years (they are starting to be appreciated again). Watching Beau work, you see he needs to be able to look at a twisted piece of metal, visualise what it looked like new, break it down into individual components, draw those in CAD, and then assemble them. This is a highly skilled and trained profession. Anyone who says "he is 'just' a mechanic or 'just' a welder" has no idea the years of training and experience you have to have to get to be a skilled mechanic or welder like him. Here's hoping videos like these inspire a whole new generation to work with their brains and their hands to keep the world running.

Hear! Hear! Completely agree! I am also, beside these video's, fond of the 'Werkplaatsvlog' . There also, the art of craftmanship is very appreciated.

I've worked in the car industry as an Engineer for 30 years. Skilled trades like this have always been instrumental to our prototyping and development workshops, certainly not looked down upon. Critical skills for turning design concepts into reality, using their experience to sort out mistakes by junior Engineers along the way!

Anti- male media propaganda has spread to their professions as well. Look at the films and good press for men's jobs that women can comfortably penetrate. Law, business, PR and all office work and other areas of work that are clean and safe get good press. The stuff that holds civilisation together and is all male dominated has been culturally down graded. The exception is motherhood in wedlock. Any girl that picks that can be excoriated.

Me too. Beau is frigging AWESOME how he uses that "heat bend" of steel when welding to create something perfectly straight and true. As an apprentice, getting them to remain at 180 degrees was always my bug bear. AWESOME work.......hahahaha, and loved his comment "ALMOST not perfect". Sheer bloody ARTISTRY ! A true artist at work. Much respect to you Beau

Its fascinating that the StuG's gun mount is its own complete assembly, very similar to a towed field gun. It doesn't seem to take advantage of the vehicle's structure or armor to tie into to take the recoil stresses like later casemate vehicles like the Jagdpanzer. The evolution of AFVs made manifest in a beautiful reconstruction. Thanks!
@Vtarngpb Жыл бұрын
Pretty crazy to think that sheet steel that thin could support a 75mm gun, never mind the recoil! 🤯
@Panzermeister36 Жыл бұрын
@@Vtarngpbwell, the recoil is dampened by the recuperators which are not present (at least to such a degree) on towed field guns.
@Panzermeister36 Жыл бұрын
That stems from the fact that the StuG was developed very early in the war, when the vehicle's armour and internal structure would not have been sufficient to hang the gun as it is on a Jagdpanzer IV for example. Note that the Jagdpanzer 38 (Hetzer) uses a similar system as the StuG for mounting the gun, as it is a relatively light vehicle as well.
@obsidianjane4413 Жыл бұрын
@@Panzermeister36 That isn't really true. The StuG III was a welded structure that was easily capable of taking the stresses and loads from the gun. They didn't because they hadn't learned that they could yet. You had the vehicle guys and the gun guys all doing their own thing.

I'm rather surprised that the pivot bearing is so small. I would have guessed it needed to be a foot or so in diameter. And how thin the steel is that makes up the mount.
