My first redemptor was a blue push-together model with only the heavy gatling cannon, heavy flamer and fragstorm 'nade launchers. Even there it was a threat to be reckoned with. Passed it onto my little brother after I picked up several boxnoughts. He now has several, two of which have all of the other options.

I absolutely loved building my plastic Redemptor kit. It's actually got a fair amount of dynamic posing when the pegs locking things into position are sliced off. The knees can be raised to just below the hips in height with the pistons still connecting, the arms can reach out, it's so great.

I don't own a Redemptor, but it is one of those "little project" models I have considered, where I would like to "build" a specific Iron Hands character, and make him a Dreadnought, as it just feels like their "flesh is weak" bit would lend them to viewing Dreadnoughts in a different light to other Chapters. It might be even better if the Contemptor, or Leviathan, patterns were still available, to make it an even cooler venerable Dread idea, but the Redemptor is still pretty cool, and there might be enough extra kit bits, or third party stuff, to really make it pop, even compared to other "regular" Redemptors one might see.

The Leviathan is still available and even has a nice plastic kit. With a bit of surgery you could easily use him as a Redemptor against 99% of players.

I'm currently running a Redemptor in my Crusade list, and deliberately took the Gatling Cannons for one simple reason: Upgrades. Improving damage and AP of the Gatling Cannon by one each means they absolutely chew through MEQs, and can chip surprising amounts of damage off of heavy vehicles, as well as being usable in melee.

We did have to homebrew a few rules though - the Tyrannic War crusade supplement has a way to give the Redemptor anti-vehicle and anti-monster 4+, meaning that the upgraded gatling cannons would statistically slice a Land Raider in half with every volley 😬

My Redemptor is a staple of my Marine lists, and even earned himself a name (Brother Leucas). Also, don't sleep on it in Firestorm. The continuous Assault helps it keep up with the fast transports, and S5 on all the antipersonnel weapons and S10 on the macro plasma is big money

The Ballistus needs more weapon options already, it’s actually insane we haven’t gotten more yet. The Brutalis needs… I mean it could do with any flavour of buffs. More movement speed so it can get in melee faster, the -1 damage rule so it can get in melee safer, honestly any rule that isn’t tank shock, or even just give it better melee. It’s just really disappointing that the other two dreads don’t really need to exist while the Redemptor does. The Ballistus being 130 and still only a consideration is ridiculous, and the Brutalis should *NOT* be 160 while the gun platform one is 130.

I like the Ballistus. It's a little bit more general purpose than the Lancer and more durable. If you combine it with a Stormspeeder Thunderstrike it kills every tank fairly easily. And I like them in 1000 point lists, which we play often on normal weekdays.

The Redemptor has a lot of potential in Blood Angels LAF, if you're prepared to invest CP into it to make it work. As well as the detachment rule, which certainly gives its melee a bit of a kick, you've got strats for both advance+ shoot+ charge and fall back+ shoot +charge. Then you've got the melee strats to get Lance and force more wounds through when charging a tough vehicle (at S14!) or boost its attacks when someone charges it, though to be honest that's better used on a big unit. You've even got the 5+ FNP strat against Mortals, in case someone tries to ruin your day with Grenades. Now, if only Blood Angels actually had a source of extra CP... EDIT: Forgot to mention that if you have a Techmarine operating in close support for a Redemptor and it does go down, a angry BA Techmarine in LAF with a 7-attack Omissian Axe that gets another +1A, +2S on the charge is certainly no joke. Mine cut down the Swarmlord today, though the beggar auto-destructed in response and took the poor guy with him. That's what I get for running Lamenters.

I haven't been impressed with its performance for the cost. It's tough, it's weapons are *okay* , but for it's rather enormous cost, it makes you expect more than it's likely to do unless you get some great rolls. Detachment-wise, mileage may vary.

Multiple heavy onslaughts synergise very well with techmarines in ironstorm because you can get sustained hits on a 4+ with mercy is weakness and the +1 to hit rolls from the techmarine's healing. If you're shooting at your oath of moment target with the heavy and regular onslaught guns, your re-rolls essentially mean that you could be looking at as many as 40 hits thanks to those sustained hits, and you would then be looking at 6/7 devastating wounds on average. It's also a better choice of weapon for durability, as the plasma definitely makes your dreadnoughts less durable or just does less than optimal damage. When you remove the hazardous roll, add a techmarine with adept of the Omnissiah, add another techmarine with master of machine of war, and your redemptors with the heavy onslaughts are extremely flexible, durable, and multipurpose in their damage output without shooting themselves in the not-so metaphorical foot every now and then. You will also pound the meta horde armies much better than the plasma variant will allow.

As always, good video. The redemptor is a meh in fire a power and melee, good resistence but the cost is a lil too much... The main problem is that is overshadowed by the vindicator, which is better at range, similar resistence and way cheaper. The melee isnt enough to justifique this model.

Here's my stupid take as I have recently gotten into 40K tabletop. I have looked heavily at the Redemptor Dreadnought, that Heavy Onslaught Gatling Cannon AT FIRST GLANCE looks menacing, like a real meat grinder, but it really does fall flat on its face as a singular primary. It works on the Repulsor Executioner because its just an anti-mob weapon while the real star of the show is that heavy laser destroyer, you can opt for the Macro Plasma Incinerator but I like the HLD for the long range anti-heavy capabilities. Why does this matter... the Repulsor Executioner costs just 10 more points over the Redemptor Dreadnought, and here are the basic stats... Redemptor Dreadnought - 10 Toughness, 2+ base save (no invuln), 12 wounds, 210 points cost, OC of 4. Repulsor Executioner - 12 Toughness, 3+ base save (no invuln), 16 wounds, 220 points cost, plus can carry 6 standard space marine infantry, specialty armored (terminator, jetpack, etc...) cost 2 per model, and centurion costs 3 per model, OC of 5. For 10 more points you get MORE toughness, MORE WOUNDS, TRANSPORT CAPABILITY (small squad, say 5 man devastator plus attached unit), and MORE FIREPOWER... for just 10 more points! Hell if you play legends (I do), there are also better options for CHEAPER. RELIC CONTEMPTOR DREADNOUGHT - 9 Toughness, 2+ base save (5+ INVULN), 10 Wounds, OC of 3, 180 POINTS... PLUS, you can mount 2x HEAVY PLASMA CANNONS WITH A CYCLONE MISSILE LAUNCHER, & it comes with EVEN IN DEATH I STILL SERVE which means the first time its "killed" you roll a D6 & on a 2+ you get to bring that model back with D6 wounds REMAINING, that's up to 60% health back AFTER DEATH! The Redemptor Dreadnought is decent, but its VERY OVERPRICED and I am not just talking about the IRL cost either.

Redemptors are TOO expensive - and thats just because of Ironstorm Detachment. Slowly I start to dislike the new detachment system for space marines because there are too many variables like Chapter AND Detachment in comparison to other Factions in the game.

For 30 more points I'd take a land raider which is tougher, has better damage output and can transport 12 models. For 80 less I'd take a ballistus which is actually useful against most vehicles and almost as tough to kill as the redemptor. At 210 points I find the redemptor to be a bit lacking, the macro plasma whiffs more often than not, and none of the other weapons do much. Even in melee he barely scratches a light infantry squad

First born dreadnaught get the shaft as always. Maybe one way to salvage it without step over the role of brutualis/ballastius is the give a role similar to phobo armor marine. Some thing like stealth or shoot and fade version of dreadnaught. So instead of straight up heavy defense, it gain defense through evasion and speed. Kind of silly imagine a speed version of dread

The Ballistus is terrible at its role. It has 8 rockets, after launch, it has to have a direct line of sight to shoot its lasers or chest guns. This means it has to be on a hill far away or in the front of battle so it doesn't cause friendly fire with Space Marines being in the laser or chest guns' way. EDIT: Forgot, the laser can only adjust its aim vertically, meaning if something is moving horizontally, it has to move or swivel its body to hit the target. The Redemptor has arms that allow the arm to pivot horizontally to shoot something moving horizontally, not its entire body.

Maybe, but mainly the problem holding them back is their weird weapon profile. Damage 1 means they just don't get the damage they need out, even if the rest of the profile is great. Also, the ranged warriors have a slightly worse version of their melee, but also have shooting and are cheaper.

No infantry is surviving that. And yes, the redemtor can do a lot of damage to them, but the redemptor does a lot of damage to everything it can shoot

Why does GW make most of its models left-handed? Speaking from experience, you want your dominant hand to do melee and non-dominant to carry a shield or gun. Just look at history like the Greek phalanx or Roman legion. Even if you were left-handed, you had to fight with your right hand to not screw up the formation. Guns are point-and-click, while melee is strength and speed.

The Redemptor is nice but the weapons aren't great. The Onslaught cannon is fine against gaunts or guardsmen, and the plasma is almost useless against vehicles, it is better for more elite infantry. If this could have the lascannon and an powerfist, it would be better.

It's a fantastic looking model when posed appropriately. The legs and arms as so articulated that you can have them stepping on rocks, arms at rest by its side etc. it's genuinely a fantastic model. The monopose is a bit goofy with its pose however

Yeah it's deep in the core rules somewhere >Damage (D): The amount of damage inflicted by a successful wound. After all modifiers are applied, this cannot be less than 1. The exception to this is where a rule specifies that you can change the Damage characteristic to 0.

i would rather take something with 2-6 shots that has high S ap and D then an infantry killer thats S6 ap-1 damage 1 better chance at killing shit

In terms of tournament legal models, I agree that the baseline Redemptor is the "King" of the Imperial dreadnaught type models. In terms of models that have 10th Ed. rules though, I'd actually have to say it's Carab Culn. He may be in legends, but he's actually got a 10th ED. statsheet that can be pulled up via datasheet viewers. Still the only dreadnaught with a melee weapon that does more than 3 damage, has a sturdy body, reliable range output. Aside from the tournament legality and purchasability, the only thing that the Redemptor has over Culn is that it can switch weapon loadouts
