Point by point tennis is such an insanely hard thing to learn - especially at lower levels where your constantly distracted by how your playing, your form, whether your losing or winning, etc. Very hard to stay mentally focused.

Pretty good video, I love going to the middle of box. The serve is a way to start the point really. I serve, they tag the return, the end mistake or winner comes at least eight shots later. You just take each point on its own, outlast them in long rallies each point.

At 6:38, can you explain what is needed to put "bite" on the out wide ball? Does he mean to hit a flat serve that goes out wide by contacting to the right of center, or to put some top spin with the slice by brushing the ball at around 1 or 2 o'clock?
@josephtung9764
@josephtung9764 3 жыл бұрын
The serve didn't "bite" out wide because it had more top spin than side spin. If hit with slice welll, it should spin away from the opponent.

I think it was more about adding pace so that the bit of slice that is put on the ball is more effective. As opposed to just putting a ton of slice on a slow serve.

I didn't quite understand what he meant by "getting the ball to bite instead of slide" when serving out wide. Does he mean "kick"...ie...high bounce?
@transklutz
@transklutz 3 жыл бұрын
I was trying to figure out what bite means too. It could mean that it "grabs" the court and shoots off sideways, rather than curve and high bounce.

I believe what he meant was don't go for a hard slice but hit through the ball, i.e. a mix of slice and top spin to get it up high and off the court.

@@adityasarang5755 Well, Newcomb specifically said that he didn't like it high off the court, because it allows a forehand smash return.

@@adityasarang5755 thats wrong. It sounds like he was skidder to slide outwide more. LESS POWER SLICE

A bit more pace in addition to a bit of slice so that it skids low instead of a slow serve with a ton of spin that sits higher. That's my guess. Think if it like you hit a backhand slice. Does it skid when you put a lot of pace into it, or when you cut under it which causes it to float?
