I'd say the biggest thing is the beach. Have helped Soo many tourists with no idea starting to drown before surf Life saving even saw. If you can't swim well, just stay shallow and enjoy the water, don't go out in the swells

There are two groups of life savers at bondi. Council paid lifeguards (blue,) and volunteer "clubbies" from the surfing club who are royal life saving accredited ,,(yellow and red) They actually dont work together except if the council pros see a volunteer needing help. Council work designated times and dates. Not in winter. Volunteers work weekends and public holidays

Haha, the "pronounce the places correctly" bit reminds me so much of the Midlands in the UK where all the "cesters" are, like Leicester, Worcester, Gloucester, Towcester etc. First thing I learned: it's pronounced "Lester, Wooster, Gloster, Toaster".

The way we live here as Aussies know it isn’t weird, it’s just different. Speeding, drinking and wanting our ID ID for OUR safety, too many die on the roads speeding. I don’t swear at all, except once, my son, for fun, forced me to say the F word, eventually I did, he said Yes and cracked up laughing and said WTG mum lol. I read about Americans being under paid thus tips. Here, I’ve tipped twice. I’ve never seen a snake or spider in a loo and I’m 67. Yes we have a bad rep for spiders snakes being everywhere here, ready to kill us from many Americans, maybe we started the joke, I have no idea. We tend to enjoy stirring people, (it’s our Aussie or as I tell many of my American on line friends it’s pronounced Ozzie) humour not to frighten. lol I pronounce Melbourne Mel/bn lol . Dam, now they’ll know we’ve been pulling their leg all the time joking. Now what do we do? 😂

Tipping. Something people tend to leave out when explaining tipping isn’t common in Australia is that some places _don’t allow_ tips at all. Employees just aren’t allowed to accept them. Although I remember once being told to just redirect someone to donations if they wanted to tip. Donations to various charities at the checkout is common in Australia Eg. Guide Dogs, Cancer, Children Hospital or Royal Flying Doctor type charities etc. Often the donations used to be from people’s loose change and now when paying via card self serve checkouts may ask you if you want to make a donation to x charity by rounding up to the nearest dollar or donating a dollar.

I had a green tree frog chilling out in my toilet bowl about 2 months ago. Luckily I haven't seen any snakes in my toilet yet. In saying that... I had seen a Red-Belly Black snake and an Eastern Browns on my property a few years ago. These happened during the dry spell (a few years ago) when there were no crops being grown by the local farmers and this had led to rodents searching for food in the residential area of our little town. My mouse trap had caught 21 mice in the space of 5 days back then.

Things you must know. Bondi beach is not impressive, or nice in any way. I'll compromise the weather for Tasmania to live in a place that has probably five beaches better than Bondi, within view, without thousands of people with a maximum drive of about an hour.

There is a lot to see! Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, also whilst you’re there, visit Salamanca Markets in Hobart. West coast of Tasmania: the vintage rail at Queenstown, Strahan (tree ferns, moss, quirky staff, delicious food, Galley Museum at Queenstown a must see). In Victoria: Holy Dooley you are spoilt for choice … the Great Ocean Road, amazing. New South Wales & Victoria… travel along the Snowy mountains, cave systems, views, hiking, snow skiing and loads more. Queensland… well it is aptly named Queens’ land… weather: pleasant (not too hot, not too cold… it’s just right… well, most of the time lol) viewing the Great Barrier Reef, whether by plane, boat or swimming is a must. South Australia… Adelaide, the city of churches, Coober Pedy… that’s opal country! Northern Territory, Katherine Gorge, crawling with crocodiles (species both small and deadly)… in most of the waterways, rivers, wetlands, estuaries and thereabouts! Swim in crystal clear Mataranka Springs, enticingly warm, bliss! Western Australia, pearls, engaging and welcoming Quokkas, playful dolphins at Monkey Mia. Mining history at Kalgoorlie (my late great Uncle tried his luck prospecting for gold there). The Australian Capital Territory, Canberra…our Nations’ capital, Museums… in particular Military is worth a look see. I love this country, my place of birth, and recommend overseas visitors to see and experience it.

I lived on the road for 6 years. After all of the scary videos about everything in Australia wanting to fuck spiders, it was amazing to me how many back packers would turn up after dark and go straight to walking through the bush / long grass looking for wood to start a fire. Also good to get used to layering just in general around the country, a shirt + jumper and maybe a jacket during winter is a good combo for layering up or down throughout the day as it warms up or cools down. Normally I stick to a shirt + jacket combo but the latest cold snap with wind chill has me grabbing a jacket as well as my usual jumper.

I am an Aussie girl and I really loved this video. Australians are generally friendly and welcoming, but there are some cultural differences that you should be aware of. For example, it's customary to shake hands when meeting someone for the first time, and it's considered rude to arrive late for appointments or social events.🙂

@@JamesPrpich you don't swim or go near the waters edge anywhere that there could be a saltwater crocodile they actively hunt and eat humans. but there are crocodile free places within their range where you can swim. but you have to be 100% sure a crocodile cannot get in there. eg a river on top of an escarpment they can't climb or a crystal clear waterhole where a croc can't hide or get into without being seen first.

For example on some festivals if you see free food or other free gifts big crowd be arond this place. Because need to take to yourself ( and bigger bigger) for children, friends etc. And it ok then all of them stay at home. Even plastic bags in supermarket have price. Because people came to supermarket took a pack of bags and left.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it. But I know QLD ask for photo ID as some places will scan your ID for records. So if you cause damage or involved in a fight and flee. They will look through the documents and forward onto the police. I don't know about other states but Qld does do this. So it's not so much as checking age but maintaining records and easy identification should issues arise. They also may have a little camera at the door that also takes your photo and saved with the scan of drivers license or passport etc.

Licensed clubs will do this. Its a complex tax issue for visitors v members and their guests. Many venues ae also linked using a license makes it consistent. So if you are removed from one you wont enter others. If you are accused of an offence (eg groping, fighting) the cops will have your id.

Yesss. I’ve seen a few pass or get taken. I’ve been taken on purpose and by mistake scary af And I can swim surf beaches, for fitness. So learning how to get out of a rip safely is so important. Try and lay on ur back. Depending speed. Don’t ever fight a rip. Go with u. People panic and try and swim into it. They get exhausted and freak out coz sometimes it can feel like an escalator 😑 slow means the edge. Motion is key. Once it slows down u can swim across it. Stay safe x

If your going camping you 100% need to be careful of snakes all of this info is for visiting the city…. It bugs me that you can watch a video saying it’s very unlikely you’ll see a kangaroo in the wild….. depends where you visit! lol Driving along the beaches in QLD you’ll see 10-15 kangaroos just out in the open. Hiking in summer in Queensland your very likely to see a snake but most are not fond of people. Some are curious and will take a look at you before leaving and some will charge at you :) Snakes in the toilet is a common occurrence north QLD in rural areas and down to north NSW. They are attracted to the frogs. And frogs are attracted to the water. One of the places we go camping has signs all over the toilet block to close the toilet lid to stop the snakes.

In America there is an unwritten rule that you can go 5-10 MPH over the speed limit on interstate freeways before a patrolman will stop you. In urban areas that will shrink to less than 5MPH allowance, the Aussie 3 KPH rule, which is less than 2 MPH is shockingly strict. Americans are as likely to say "swear" as "cuss or "curse". Americans seem to be easier going on tolerating divergent pronunciations than Australians are, if an obvious foreigner mispronounced a place name I would not be irritated. For some reason I naturally call it Melburn, rather than Mel-born, I'm not sure why, LOL! I like this kids video much better than his "hate about Australia" video, his other one was pretty cringy.

About the "driving on the wrong side of the road": this is serious, folks! I'm german. 1st time I drove "on the other side" was London City and Birmingham City. That's easy! 'Cause you have lots of traffic. The dangerous thing is, when turning into the wrong lane somewhere in the countryside. With no traffic around you. And you have been driving for either miles or kilometers with no problem. And than are facing oncoming traffic. Think about this. All of the time. Ride safe!

Regarding speed limits; in my experience living in and around ACT & NSW - some states and regions of states are more aggro about keeping to the speed limits (been a decade but last time I was riding shotgun down to a con in Melb EVERYONE was doing 5km/h *under* the posted limit once we crossed the border to Vic), whilst other states and regions of states are a smidge more lax about limits (here in the Riverina, NSW - as long as you're *safely* keeping a constant speed and are out on the 100km/h zones, most cops (who *aren't* parked in a mobile speed trap) that you pass on the open road won't ping and chase you if you're doing about 105-110km/h, or if you're doing 120-140 as part of *overtaking* someone whose speed isn't constant, as long as you get back down to the 105-110km/h zone and stay there until nearing a slower zone).

In NSW, the only valid ID is a drivers licence or a photo card. Anyone without a drivers licence can get a photo card from Services NSW. Visitors to Australia can use their passport but NSW residents have to use the licence or the photo card. Student IDs or any other cards are not acceptable.

@@AussieEnglishPodcast definitely after the whole pandemic. then, my wife will apply some jobs. i would say end of next year maybe. the Covid is more serious than I think. The travel bubble only one way, which is kiwi can go to oz from 1/11. but not return. we are still suffering it. more than 150 new cases per day.

Americans pronounce words the way they are spelled and that’s why American English is so much easier to understand and learn. Australian English, which is like regional British English, is heavily influenced by the French language so spelling and pronunciation don’t correspond half the time!… Now Aussies mostly mispronounce Los Angeles among many other U.S. cities but most Americans don’t care because Americans don’t have an inferiority complex!… I have noticed that people on the top of the food chain don’t get offended easily!
