Failures were the dude’s who did nothing for 6 mos then tried to work out a week before the test. Over a quarter of all the crews I served on, crew members were in the excellent to outstanding range. One thing I learned after 40 years in this world is that positive reinforcement is the best strategy to keep doing something we believe is hard for us. Yelling doesn't work. Instead of yelling, a personal trainer could say ' so far so good', 'come on your can do more' , 'good girl' or 'you're doing a good job'. I'm a teacher and it works with my students. Sometimes when people are stressed around me yelling, complaining, charging me the impossible I keep working and repeating this words for me.
@Talierau34 жыл бұрын
agreed. in working out, your CNS is vulnerable and yelling only adds to the stress, making the movement more taxing. The increased cortisol isn't good while trying to lose weight and in muscle recovery.

Thomas Jackson I pass my event, it’s 19 & obviously I have proper form after training, the only reason these girls started lacking form was because the ground was blistering and they maxed out early on but kept pushing
@balls4335 жыл бұрын
liv simon the maxed out early on? They didn’t do one push up correctly. And how is the ground blistering on Astro turf? The point is, form is everything. If my female soldiers can knock out 36 and probably more than my male soldiers, then there is no excuse to me. Back not straight, asses pointed in the air, not moving down past the 90 plank as one single unit. It would have been 0 every time. And there is no lifting of the hands on the ground. They would have been disqualified

I was a CFL (Command Fitness Leader) when I was in the Navy. These girls did great. When people think of the Navy they immediately assume that we’re all Navy Seals, but NO. When you think of the entire Navy, think of a group of employees working at Home Depot. BOOM... Navy. These girls did exceptional in this PRT. They would be CFLs. The Navy PRT is a joke and needs to be held to a much higher standard. Period. Anyone who is in the Navy or was would agree with me.

I'm no Crossfitter or apologist for them, but they were really good sports about this. I suspect that if they had had time (i.e., days) to fully digest the rules of each event, they could have practiced the most efficient technique for the crunches and push-ups, and probably maxed both. Specific comments: (1) Austen jokingly pressured them to touch their elbows high on their knees for the crunches, making them harder (even though Austen explained the rules correctly). (2) Their push-ups look odd, with the chest going down and the butts remaining more up. The 2nd gal did a noticeable dipping motion. Some commenters indicated that this is a Crossfit thing. That should have given them a bit of an unfair edge. However, I've seen all sorts of horrible push-ups among Navy folks taking the PRT. (3) They both made their push-ups harder on themselves with their very narrow hand positions. That makes you use smaller muscles and is also awkward mechanically-you have to go down further to make your upper arm parallel to the ground. (4) To run that specific distance on a track, it really helps to do targeted intervals. Again, with more time to practice (not so much to improve their base cardiovascular fitness, but rather to figure out a strategy), they probably could have taken a lot of time off their runs. Lots to learn from observing this video!
@wilko40854 жыл бұрын
You dont need time to practice 3 of the most commonly performed exercises in every sport!! They do sit ups and press ups and the 1.5miler in cross fit too. If you cant do 50 press ups, 85 sit ups in 2-min and run a sub-10 then you need to look at your training as something is wrong. They were just not very strong and thats the problem with crossfit - it gives this false illusion of strength until they do exercises properly and then they fall to shit. All of their scores and performance were pretty poor. My 17-year old niece is stronger as i have ran these exact tests on her and she performed slightly better on all exercises with better technique and she only has 8-months training with me. Their press up technique was poor because of weak core muscles and poor neurotrophy.
@HolySoliDeoGloria4 жыл бұрын
@@wilko4085 Interesting. I have been fooled by that illusion of Crossfitters, not having been involved in it directly myself. But I have also been doing the Navy PRT for decades (and maxing it, not to brag, but just to support my next point) and know that you can significantly increase your scores in each event by practicing the movements exactly as you would on the test, per the very specific rules of the test-even if you are already strong.

@@HolySoliDeoGloria Yea, train for the exercise you want to improve in, specifically. It's a common concept. I do expect the crossfitters to be overall capable though. But, someone who specifically trains to improve the same exercises they are going to be testing will obviously be better at it. Even Wilko's 17 year old niece. Sounds like he just has a prejudice towards crossfit a little.

I mean being a navy veteran when your in it’s not really held either. Honestly I think the reason a shipmate counts for you is for a reason. It influences having your peoples back. I broke a ton of rules while in and we all watched each others backs. And the people Over you know your breaking rules. they’d rather you keep a buddy safe than follow every rule. Also it’s not what you do, it’s what you get caught doing. They did the same when they were junior. But that’s my experience of the navy.

My best 1/4 mile - 20 days later in early September in similar circumstances, was indoors in the arena. 10 years later, I went out on a couple 30 mile hikes in double-layers at 100+, with numerous wind sprints and hill runs. I've gone the other way too. About 8 years later, I did a 90 minute 6 mile hike in a t-shirt and light running pants in a heavy rainstorm - at about 35 degrees. A couple years later, I've done hikes with nothing on at 35-40 degrees.
