Classic And Vintage Cars

2 жыл бұрын

Welcome to our Austin 7 restoration project and rebuild. The Austin Seven Ruby is a basic car and in this series of videos we will look at the restoration and solve a few problems along the way. We believe the Austin 7 was registered in 1935 and we hope to use a club to get the car registered.
This Austin 7 Ruby is a project that was started by a friend over 18 years ago so is not quite a barn find car, we have bought the car to complete the restoration. A classic or vintage car restoration is not a profitable business but should be rewarding and give us a roadworthy Austin Seven to use for classic car shows and weekend driving. This Austin Seven Ruby has had some parts resprayed already and a few new items purchased already. This is going to give us a head start on this restoration project.
This will not be quite the same as Richard Hammond's Workshop but should be fun to follow us as we complete this project. If we can get James May or Jeremy Clarkson to visit then we will but for now it will be just my son, step father and myself completing this car.
Today we are just having a look around the restoration project and getting to know the Austin Seven. This is our starting point and we will plan the restoration in stages over the next few weeks and months. We will use KZbin to document our progress and hopefully finish with a video where we take the car for its first proper drive in years.

Looking forward to see this project. I have a Ruby and they are quite scarce here in Canada. Yours looks great.

Hi and good luck, you should find it all quite straight forward. If the fuel tank has not been cleaned inside, I suggest that you put caustic soda in it after getting any loose rust out. Remove the float off the petrol sender. Carefully shake the liquid in the tank, do spill any, then leave over night. Next day give more shake, then drain out carefully, rinse well with clean water. Then seal with diluted PVA glue, shake well, drain out and leave to dry. Add a filter after the petrol pump. You should then be free of any blockages. Regards Graham.

hi, There is a kit to properly renovate the fuel tank ~ recommended. Also, several jobs that are much easier while the car is dismantled. For example, silent bloc bush. R Halliwell

In NZ we hv a construction product called Bitufoam, I’m sure you have something similar - basically lengths of foam in various profiles impregnated with tar. Kind of perfect for old school flexible joints while being water tight. Awesome father/son quality time, nicely done.

The manual can be ordered from the wife of the author by emailing susan.woodrow@gmail.com or from some Austin 7 spares suppliers, a7c.co.uk being of of those.
