Austin motor co gearbox manufacture 1930s Part of the Mighty Atom film. Dialog starts with "good gear changing for a woman" wouldn't get away with that now eh.

Did we really treat females in this way ? Yes of course we did and still do!

The Austin companies quality control methods were studied in great detail by Datsun of Japan and used in their own assembly plant's in the 1930s.

Yes I think the first Datsun was a Austin Somerset

@@grahamstanton6500 It was actually an Austin Seven. Good effort though. Cheers!

My first car was an old Mini 1000 and I later bought Datsun B-210 "sunny" to drive while rebuilding the Mini....The Datsun A14 engine looked very much like the A-Series engine in the Austin, and this was in 1978. Both cars were very rust prone

Fascinating, thank you so much for sharing this and the other films from Austin. What attention to detail, no wonder they have survived well and we can still enjoy driving them today.Buckslad

... Watch next week for part two of "Mansplaining for beginners"... lovely film with a lot of fascinating period insights, but oh lord, feminism couldn't come soon enough

@InfiniteMushroom And you, sir, are why we needed - and still need - feminism. troll

Fascinating piece of film. Would love to see a comparison of the stages in the production cycle shownwith how it is achieved now.

Can you believe the amount of time and effort to produce individual gears, something tells me tyhat if this had been the case in the USA, the number of Jeeps produced would never have met the numbers required.
