People seem to forget that the people behind creating Power Rangers never meant for it to be a big media franchise AKA involving television and films, the whole purpose behind the franchise world for it to sell merchandise AKA toys, the show was designed to be basically a giant commercial in getting people to buy the toys therefore that's why the show was always non-union, the problem is the big corporate Stooges don't seem to realize that people fell in love with it as a media franchise, they want TV shows and movies out of it, but they're not wanting to pay actors, it's no different than any other Corporation that's out for profit

@@supermanbatman4992 Well you gotta think about it like this ( and I'm inserting some army experience from working with contractors): 1) you're talking about someone interrupting their service time during a deployment to go film for a single episode in which their screen time is severely reduced. As a contractor, you're making up to 6 figures a year which is why many military personnel would retire and then just continue working as contractors. you make far more than you would as a soldier. 2) that security clearance thing is no joke and breaking contract with the military is no joke either. Losing those can screw your career prospects over for the rest of your life. 3) The majority of the past rangers who were sought out for that event actually turned it down for similar reasons. And they still go to cons, still communicate and show love and appreciation to fans of the series, some of them even participate in fan made content. It wasn't out of greed or cockiness. Most of them have lives and can't just up and leave on short notice for $2000.

On the 1 hand, I can't blame him. He wasn't able to go back because he was in the army as a healthcare provider in Iraq & would've lost benefits that were more worth it in the longrun to keep at the time. He was also getting a steady income from being there. With what other people have said about the relatively low pay & barely any time to plan the trip or accept the offer, I'm not surprised he turned it down. I wouldn't have done it either, though that more has to do with how the quality was consistently extremely low for Super Megafail's writing, acting, & production. I wouldn't wanna be associated with it either. Worst season of the show. All for probably a few days to a week of pick up shots & ADR work that ultimately went to waste considering the legendary rangers took up all of probably 5 minutes of screentime total & most of them didn't even speak or really do anything. On the other, I wonder what he would've done had he not been in the army. He said he has to feel it's right, which I can understand from a creative standpoint, but for the 20th anniversary, like the 10th, it might've swayed him a bit more if he wasn't doing his army work at the time. Maybe the $2000 would've been worth it then. Who knows?

@@itsrectimemedia That’s too bad. But nevertheless, if Austin was allowed to travel out of the country it is possible that he would’ve said yes or no. Will Smith didn’t sign on to be in the Independence Day sequel on account of a pay issue or something like that. Can’t say that I blame him, especially since that movie wasn’t as good as its predecessor but this this Netflix reunion movie was more entertaining.

I think it's a case of Austin walking away from the acting scene and any TV spotlight after leaving Power Rangers Zeo and working in the real world as a paramedic. You could see he was still in great shape in the Turbo Power Rangers movie back in 1997 and then when he came back in 2002 for Forever Red, he looked less in shape probably because he wasn't interested in coming back to TV full time, especially after his past experiences getting low balled by Saban on the show. He really didn't have much reason to stay in great shape since he wasn't frequently on TV during his paramedic years. Unlike JDF, David Yost, AJJ, Walter Jones who all had some sort of Hollywood related career, whether on screen or behind the screen. ASJ just left the acting and public eye scene completely behind and got married and had some kids and then periodically would be asked back by Saban to make guest appearances through the years, while living a normal everyday life. Im sure the stresses of marriage and parenthood and work took it's toll on him. Whereas JDF never quit acting or martial arts and stayed in the public eye, and so did AJJ to a lesser extent. Might also explain why JDF was married twice always being in the spotlight. Walter Jones and David Yost also did projects behind the scenes like voice over work and producing and were still active in the silver screen realm. Keeping up appearances probably didn't mean as much to ASJ throughout the years since he really only came back into the acting fray in the last few years and acting can be a harsh unstable gig for making a steady paycheck and providing for a family. My guess is he uses these Morphicon events just as a side hustle for extra income and doesn't feel the need to transform his body back into the athletic shape he used to be in. Plus, it just gets harder to stay slim and fit, especially now that he's like 48 years old. He's in pretty decent shape for someone his age who probably isn't all that active.

Haim became a billionaire selling toys with Austin's face on them, and now $2k is all he's worth to them!? As much as I love the creatives that work on PR, the people on the business side are absolutely disgusting. Just imagine how much better the show could be if they took care of the people that made them rich.

Love Austin and he’s my favorite of all time. But this is the difference between him and JDF… JDF did it for the fans, never a money issue or scheduling conflict. I get his reasoning here but most other times, he rarely came back because of the pay or “it wasn’t done right”.. it is what it is. RIP JDF!
@stephensmith8316
@stephensmith8316 11 ай бұрын
It's a little more complex than that though when you say JDF did it for the fans, which he did, whereas ASJ did it for the money. When MMPR started in 93. ASJ was actually living in his car while doing the first season of the show since Saban paid him a lousy salary and he was a non union actor. Whereas JDF already had his own dojo when starting on MMPR. My point being they came from different financial backgrounds and JDF wasn't as hard up for money as ASJ was at the time. It also explains why JDF was able to stick with the show for so long after he became a draw and got paid better than the rest of the ranger actors and Saban wasn't willing to renegotiate the salaries of the original 5 ranger actors. Between living in his car and making less than minimum wage on the show, especially after it became a major hit tv show, I don't blame ASJ at all for wanting a decent paycheck. JDF may have not as been so loyal to his fans and the show after so many years if he got the same lousy contract as ASJ did and wasn't already coming from money or didn't have any financial concerns along the way. That's all I'm saying about that.

I mean I 100% understand that... that's not a good pay, as another comment said Christopher Kayman Lee (Andros) said a similar thing... but most of the legendary rangers who did return appeared for barely a couple of minutes... so $2000 probably was "decent" just not worth it Also I know there have been major public pay disputes between Saban and Austin (as well as several others) so I absolutely understand where he is coming from

@@itsrectimemedia its so odd, but I think JDF could have been a somewhat of a polarizing figure for a few of his castmates. On his passing, ASJ said "its been no secrete that me and JDF weren't drinking buddies" or something...and then Christopher Khayman Lee said "me and JDF didn't see eye to eye...." Regardless, for me the Green Ranger will always be my fav one due to that undeniable charisma JDF had. He's the reason Green is my favorite color.

The Fat Electrician has taught me one iron fast rule- don't mess with doc. Power rangers better be glad Austin is an upstanding enough guy to say no, because if he didn't he probably would've come with a platoon of grunts that would watch his back, drink, and fuck with the production people; and that's the optimistic possibility, more likely they might've planned a raid just to get their doc back.
