My great-grandfather was a political prisoner during the military dictatorship, and watching this film felt incredibly personal-like a tribute to all those who suffered and resisted, and at a moment so many democracies around the world fear perishing. There are movies and even actors that have much more powerful performances that way more light years ahead than Chalamet that didn't even get nominated or recognize by the Oscars. These are the following: Lou Diamond Phillips - La Bamba (1987) Sam Riley - Control (2007) Ben Dickey - Blaze (2018) Taron Egerton - Rocketman (2019) 10. Emilia Perez - Doesn't deserved the 13 nominations it gets in my opinion.

@cauedantas I'm happy for you although you just convinced me maybe I should rewatch Elvis again. I do really like Austin Butler's performance though and I do think he deserves the nomination. I think it's Tom Hanks performance and presence in that movie that was the hindrance on why I had almost mixed feelings with it. Nothing also wrong with Baz Luhrman's direction. You gave me an idea thank you friend. But unfortunately though I heavily dislike A Complete Unknown and Timothee Chalamet's performance.

​@mikejunior211 yes, Brazil had a military totalitarian government from 1964 to 1985. In 64 the democratically elected president was deposed by a military coup d'état. This military regime was extremely violent towards opposition. Many were killed or exiled.

This film greatly disturbed the far-right movements in Brazil, on the other hand, it has been applauded by the population, the film itself is used as a credible example of how susceptible we are to domination by force, in addition to delicately showing that hope and resilience is the key to overcoming regimes, a powerful film.

@@mikejunior211 I partially agree, in fact military regimes can be communist, like Cuba and Venezuela, China, etc., but in the context of the film, Eunice's fight can indeed be interpreted as a fight against facism, given that the Brazilian military period was biased towards fascism. And yes, the far right has ideas that are very close to fascism in my opinion.

A Complete Unknown (I am OVER this endless stream of Male Genius Biopics. Give me a well-done Poe biopic, or William Butler Yeats; otherwise, I'm out.) 2. Emilia Perez The unseen I might eventually see out of curiosity even though it's not the type of movie I prefer: 1. The Substance Unnominated that should have been nominated: 1. The Wild Robot 2. Ghostlight 3. Flow Haven't seen Sing Sing yet, but really want to. Dude, tastes are subjective...Buuuuuuut. A Complete Unknown is Citizen Kane, Casablanca and The Godfather altogether compared to Emilia Pérez... But maybe is enjoyable in context of being a parody of various Mexicans and transgender stereotypes. I mean if Dave Chappell has fans Emilia Perez could also be enjoyable...in context of course.

@@mikejunior211 I enjoyed them both, but Emilia Perez is extremely fun and creative and sincere, even if it's messy and the Spanish and depiction of Mexico are way off, while A Complete Unknown is immediately forgettable and does nothing new.

I'm a hispanic American of Chilean and Colombian descent...I watched Emilia Pérez and yes it was one of the worst 10 films I watched last year. But I'm actually rooting for Emilia Perez to win as many Academy Awards as possible. I think is going to be that obvious they are trying to be woke, and wanted to rub it in Trump's nose that they are willing to jeopardize the little amount of credibility they might have left. I believe if Emilia Pérez wins best picture and Karla Sofia Gascón wins best actress...they will be hammering the last nail in the coffin of any prestige of the Academy and Hollywood as a whole...

I totally understand why the pov style in Nickel Boys wouldn't land for everyone, but it might be one of the biggest disagreements I've ever had with you. I would quite possibly name Nickel Boys in cinematography as the number 1 biggest nomination snub in all 6 years I've been paying attention to the Oscars, that's how passionate I am about it. Nickel Boys (great screenplay and strong performances, but the first-person perspective took me out of it constantly... this was a swing and a miss for me) 8. Wicked (as somone who loves the musical and knows it by heart, I could just feels every agonizing second they added to stretch out the running time... the two central performances are outstanding though) 9. A Complete Unknown (love Bob Dylan, but this felt way too conventional for me)

@@palmmahir3888 definitely want to, I would’ve last week actually… then I found out about the runtime 💀 I adore long movies, but that was just not gonna fit in my schedule. With theater commercials, I could basically round it up to 4 hrs at the theater, and even with all my free time I don’t have enough for that to myself. I want to see it tho, that much I do.
