I've heard from multiple sources, that there is an ejaculation preservation HOLEP. Basically they leave tissue untouched 1-2 cm from the verumontanum, area where your ejaculation ducts are located. The procedure has also been successful with TURP.

I had this procedure done at UofM hospital in Ann Arbor, MI 5 weeks ago. It's the best treatment for advanced cases of BPH. Forget the rest. If you can get this done, you're very fortunate.

I have had the procedure. It is now week 5 since the operation. I still have some pain. Burning at tip. Hopefully it will be good soon. The recovery period is certainly not as quick as seen on the many videos out there.

I'm getting ready to have the procedure at a well-known teaching hospital. Dr. Tsai has done the best job yet explaining the HOLep to moderately educated men. The Dr. answered a ton of questions very well. It's obvious he enjoys making life a lot better for men with BPH.

I'm going to get holep done next month at the VA hospital in Las Vegas. Dr. El-Jack is the doctor doing the procedure and has done tons of the holeps and is teaching other doctors. Drugs wasn't working for me. My prostate was also a size 75.

Thanks for the informative video. I had the green light laser treatment four years ago and the results were awesome. Now, I'm having to wake up every hour at night to urinate. I will be seeing my urologist next month and it will be interesting to see what she recommends. She does about 250 green light laser treatments a year.

You forgot to mention checks on removed tissue for cancer. I would say that is a key feature

Can this procedure be done on a mild prostate, with chronic urinary retention?
@silaslongshot94111 күн бұрын
Have had UroLift done twice, failed twice as the prostate just swelled up past the pins, now looking for third and FINAL fix for the issue. So have 10 to 12 pins left in the prostate. How will this complicate the HoLep procedure? And is this more permanent than TURP or greenlight?

Can you do the HoLEP on a damaged prostate from radiation damage from cancer treatment? Was told too much radiation in the area cannot be disturbed.

One more question,is it conceivable that irritable bowel around the prostate area,with inflammation, and symptoms are intensified after a bowel movement could be causing the prostate to cramp.Because I've noticed when my,bowels are calm,and bowel movement is normal,no diarrhea, the pain level is much lower,and it's much easier to urinate.also could some type of parasites be an issue?

Can you remove the prostate completely and is so what does it affect, or functions do you loose? Thank you in advance

That would be a prostatectomy, which is reserved for prostate cancer treatment. You can learn more about it, including the side effects, here: austinurologyinstitute.com/prostatectomy/

Is there a maximum age for this surgery?. My dad is 92 and in excellent health and very fit but had lived with BPH for 30 years and goes to bathroom several times at night. He’s from a generation that doesn’t complain and therefore never did anything for it. But since I have his genes I am sure at some point I will inherit his BPH and nice to know this procedure is gaining ground.
@Austinurologyinstitute3 жыл бұрын
There are quite a few different treatments for BPH and incontinence, from surgeries to less invasive procedures to medication. If your father wants to talk about options, he could schedule a video or in-person appointment with us (austinurologyinstitute.com/contact/) and if you start to notice symptoms, we can talk about your options.

Thanks much for a great discussion on the HOLEP Procedure. One additional Question if I may please. If you have a HOLEP procedure and happen to have undiagnosed cancer in the samples taken at surgery or if you Develop cancer of prostate later sometime -- Can you still get a Radial Prostatectomy done at that point? Having a HOLEP does Not preclude you from getting a Radial Prostatectomy at some later time if in the unlikely diagnosis of prostate cancer comes along?@@Austinurologyinstitute

I have a HoLEP procedure scheduled at Upstate Urology in Syracuse NY in six days. I found Dr. Tsai's discussion to be enlightening and reassuring. I plan on updating my comments post HoLEP. BTW are Gummy Bears typically accepted as payment for this procedure?
@Austinurologyinstitute3 жыл бұрын
Let us know how it goes! If your insurance plan accepts gummies for your co-pay, you should be fine.

After holep I never had pain after. There was some blood in the urine for about a week. I leaked and needed to wear a brief for about 6 months especially at night . 16 months post operation I pee like a 25 year old and no problems. I said no pain. Not quite right. No pain after the irrigation catheter out. It is very uncomfortable. Feels like you have a trailer hitch ball stuck up your rear end. Mine done at Yale New Haven. Great care. I was just in for check up. Doctor told me he was up to 900 holep procedures done to date.

I have read that not all Urologists are trained in hoLEP and of those who are, a patient should expect his Dr has completed "50-60" procedures in order to have transited the "learning curve". Hence, I don't want to be one of the 50-60...This video suggest 100=150 procedures in order for the Dr. to "be comfortable" in hoLEP.

@leshenley3785 Жыл бұрын
I was told that aquablation only good for 5 years+ whereas Holep is permanent fix
@paulginsberg6942 Жыл бұрын
If aquablation is done with 2 passes as it is done by the European Urological then it will probably last the rest of our lives.
