I hope CANZUK TRADE UNION becomes a reality it can be only good if the original Commonwealth comes back together to help the USA police the world and also serve as an offset to the USA holding the monopoly on world power. That's true, Canada has the potential to built an impressive military industry, but unfortunately, it seems that there is no will. It would have been great to complete the CF-105 Arrow project and continue on this path instead of throwing away all the work done. Maybe today it would have had its own modern fighter aircraft design instead of buying from the US. Don't get me wrong, US fighter jets are awesome, but Canada also could have been a major combat aircraft manufacturer.

It's a pity because Canada has the potential to build an impressive domestic military industry. It's also sad that it cancelled the CF-105 Arrow project, that interceptor was ahead of its time, and if it continued to that path, today Canada could have been a major combat aircraft producer like France. But still has the potential though to start again from scratch if there is will.

@jaysonkmendoza

What I take from this is the the two nation are fairly comparable. Their militaries are going to be different significantly because of their geopolitical situation and interests. Austrailia has to be more independent and lives far away from their significant allies. Their population sits very vulnerable to any invasion since most of it lies on the coast. Canada feels no threat and their military reflects a power that is keeping their minimal capeabilities, and the ability to assist in expeditions of their allies. They live in the heartland of the largest defence umbrealla in history next to it's most powerful member. Canada has a lot more potential to rapidly increase their military due to their constant partinerships with defence contracts, and the general wealth of the country. As the threat environment changes I would expect to see Austrailia allocate more resources to defence and grow faster, with Canada developing at a similar pace though with less intensity. If wartime was imminient and both felt threat, I think you would see Canada's capacity increase dramaticly as they have more resources (economic, and material) to do this, with safer supply lines (that would have a dramatic impact). They are both long time friends and basically siblings. I think people underestimate the impact those two nations would have on a large conflict if they got serious. They may not be a China, India, or Russia in power. However they are far more powerful than they have ever been in WWII.

Makes sense. Canada has the forces it needs, but doesn not need the power projection capability that Austalia does as it has no real fear of attack from anyone as the USA will not allow Canada to fall under control of a hostile country they would then share a long border with. Australia does not have that luxury though, it is the power of its region and despite the ANZUS treaty there is always a doubt that the USA would come to its aid if it were attacked. The UK would certainly come, but Australia would have to hold out until the UK sails it's fleet across the globe so the Aussies need a stronger navy and power projection to keep an attacking force busy in the ocean as long as possible.

Pretty out of date. Replacements are allready planned for 6 the tankers based on the A330 in Canada, along with planning for 88 F35s while Austrailia is reducing its planned purchase. Canada is also planning purcahse of new naval surveilence aircraft, Australia has ditched the 12 conventional subs for fewer nuclear ones while Canada is in the pprocess of negotiating for as many as 12 KSS 3 conventional subs, plus two additional provision ships. Should note too that Canada having a fairly large Coast Guard that Australia tends to cover with naval vessels or local support. Included in Canadian purcases are 2 25k ton ice breakers plus a number of smaller ones. I am sure someone from Australia could add more. There is also the development of continental defence radar modernization in Canada going on. The countries live in very different environments, Australian patrol vessels can be a small as 300 tons while a Canadian equivalent will be over 1100 tons like the Kingston class or the arctic ones of 6500 tons . Australia lives in a much busier and closer world while Canada's potential enemies are an ocean away and in one case an ocean of ice. It is tied into the largest military alliance in the world while Australia is much more isolated geographically . Similarly they differ in policies and deployments. I don't know about Australia but Canada has deployments across Europe including what is to be a brigade command in Latvia, trainers in Poland for the Ukrainians trainers in Jordan plus a deployment in Iraq and many others.

It surprised me as well. I coudn't find any information about air defence systems in Canadian service. Not even MANPADS, but I could be wrong here. They had some ADATS short range SAMs but it seems that they retire them. Anyway this is a topic of further investigation to me and if I was wrong in this video I will correct that in future ones. Canada is part of NORAD and I think they rely to much on US. Royal Canadian Armed Forces also lacks attack helicopters and reactive artillery. Australia doesn't have any reactive artillery too.

@@DefenceDatabase I remember someone in Canada being asked why such a small military, and the answer was that they didn't need it. If someone were to ever attack them, invade, etc the US would come down like hellfire on them, because Canada offers three points of entry to invading the US.
@DefenceDatabase
@DefenceDatabase 4 жыл бұрын
@@OutlawCaliber13 Totally agree. Canada is fortunate (if I can say so) to have USA as its southern and North-Western (Alaska) neighbor. For sure this is an important reason why Canadian government neglected in recent years the Armed Forces modernization programs, because there is no real threat for Canada, and if someone would threaten Canada is it like it was threatened the United States. But in the future Canada should expand its armed forces to its real potential, Australia as well, these are world economic powers. And Canada if I'm not wrong has the longest coastline in the world. It has a vast land and exclusive economic zone to guard. If I were to rank on different levels the most important allies from US perspective that would be: 1. Level I - Anglophone World: UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand 2. Level II - Rest of NATO (Europe), Israel, Japan, South Korea, etc.

Australian Navy is and will be far superior, as well as the Air Force, even though Indonesia will probably have in the future 50 KAI KF-X as they plan. I think it will be a high-performance aircraft but inferior to the F-35. But Europeans offered to the Koreans the MBDA Meteor to equip the KAI KF-X. This is a state of the art long-range air-to-air missile. Remains to be seen if this missile will also be adopted by Indonesia along with the KF-X.
