Australia Day Rats

Another trip out to my favorite permission, what a great way to end off Australia day. I brought a friend out to try Ratting for the first time. He had never used a NiteSite system and had also borrowed a his air rifle. So the odds were stacked against him. However after some adjustments to the sights and generally just getting used to the rifle, he started to add up a tally.
We also started the afternoon off using shotguns on the starling population. the results were pleasing and will intend to target these birds in this way in the future. We did not how ever get any video of this, maybe next time a GoPro might help.
Overall a great night out and looking forward to the next trip out.
There is also a plan for a all nighter in the near future.

Yes I miss a few and some of that is my fault . I did adjust the sights later on and improved my averages. Since then I have done a full days testing of both pellets and ballistics so hopefully the misses will no long be such a part of my hunts.

Nope never shot one of the bugs but I have been asked about doing so. So hopefully I will be getting out to this location this Friday and I may try taking a shot or two at these for you.

What’s your kit like? Are you using a bipod or a shooting stick?

I run a set of tripod shooting sticks, wish I could afford the Primos sticks but all I have are a cheap E-bay knock off. They do the job and the biggest short fall the stick have is the Numpty using them. The rest of my kit is where the money went FX Crown, ATN 4K pro 3-14 and the ATN ABL1000 is a great combination but not cheap.

Same category as shotguns and rim-fire rifles "A" class here is South Australia. So you still need a licence but they are at the lower end of the firearms scale. www.police.wa.gov.au/About-Us/Our-Agency/Police-Licensing-Services/Firearms/Firearms-licences-and-categories

Its as easy as getting a rimfire firearm, you first need to do a rifle safe handing course, then apply for your firearm licence at the Firearms Registry and once the notice to obtain your licence arrives then head to Service NSW and pick it up, while there jump on line and apply for a Permit To Aquire (PTA) for a category A firearm. SIMPLE!!!

Slow Mo disturbs the pace of the video too much. U should keep it quick, clean and simple.Boum, boum, boum. It's like rugby, in the end it's all about pace .

Noted,how ever there are many that watch that like the slo mo's. I do limit how many I do compared to some channels that show every shot with a slo mo and I believe that is way too much but a few each video is fine.

A lot of crippling shots, it looks like the rifle has problems with zeroing...🤔 Not sure what you were watching but yes there are a few imperfect shots but most are kill shots all the way.

Even using sticks to shoot from it is not an easy task to maintain a perfectly stable platform. This is made worse by using any zoom on the scope. I try my best and am getting used to having to hold extra steady. So moreof my video content is usable.

Nice shoot just a shame you did not set the guns up first its a bit late when you wound an animal to decide the sights are off and is it the norm that you hobby shooters keep forgeting to load and have to take aim twice.
