Australia: Downpours coming, more westerly gales for Tassie

Downpours are going to track from The Kimberly to central Australia and then more eastwards next week as it joins a brief wintry southerly next week in the south-east.
These downpours will bring rain relief to dry inland parts of WA, NT, SA and also NSW. It’s a bit more borderline if it brings wet weather of any value into QLD and VIC. However VIC is still caught up in the westerly to south-westerly airflow bringing in showers. TAS has heavy rain on the West Coast again, but much drier in the east as those gale to severe gale westerlies continue.
Next week another wintry southerly comes in to VIC, TAS and the ACT, then slides up coastal NSW as far north as Brisbane by Friday at the end of next week.

When you visit the Hunter Valley make sure you visit the wine country region especially Peterson House I watch your reports every week for irrigation schedules in the vineyard

Driest year in 70 odd years here on the Yorke Peninsula South Australia. Many farmers have dead or dying crops that won't even be harvested. Very, very unusual weather this year Phil!

I'm in Rockhampton and will be moving to Mackay next Friday on my way to Townsville, so I'm watching for rain and wind gusts (I work on the road and do it mostly under the caravan awning). Interestingly, two years ago at this time, we cut up North from Norseman to Mt Augustus to stay for a week before cutting West to Carnarvon and then North to Exmouth. There was evidence of rain but very little Exmouth to Esperance.

One of the most unusual pre wet season build ups ever seen. When should be in traditionally dry period before wet builds are getting mid winter strong on stream flow and unseasonal rain almost like early disturbances building up in coral sea. Have already hit pre wet 50 mil mark so unlikely be a dry season this year.

When you were flying over Maitland, if you came from the SE you would have passed the open cut coal mine at Edderton which is where we have been having numerous earthquakes over the past month. A couple of them getting up to M4.5 so fun for the locals! I follow earthquakes & must start checking volcanoes again. I will be so glad when the cold SW winds stop as they are a nuisance as they are so cold. I noted today that I had a fire warning this morning when I opened up my computer.

The Hunter is gorgeous but watch out for polluted drinking water, most of Australia's water has been comprimised by internationl mining corporations that get funded by the major political parties, big profits go off shore and Ozzy tax is not payed, on a brighter note well paid jobs are available, you will be wise to pack an excellant water filter, one that deals with PFAS and all heavy metals... That meme is hilarious! Ex-Kiwi here, I live in the abyss (after decades in Sydney 😵‍💫), and your rain forecast is the most accurate for us. The Pilliga is one of the most overlooked regions, but yet it brings most of the water needed for one of the biggest cropping regions of the country.. (and my little garden).
