@@tonyatgoogle6076 The ROC/KMT refugees who fled from China to Taiwan in 1949 are only about 20% of Taiwan's population. The overwhelming majority of Taiwanese lived under and preferred Japanese rule over the ROC/KMT dictatorship that followed and they don't agree with those territorial claims. That's why since the 1990s when Taiwan became democratic, the voters replaced the foreign KMT party with a DPP (actual Taiwanese party) president in most elections A democratic country belongs to its people, and the actual Taiwanese don't share the official territorial views of the ROC foreign government in exile. For example Taiwanese have friendly relations with Japan, while the Chinese on the other hand fight against Japan over the Senkaku islands

Filipinos need to learn self-sufficiency. Spending 1% of GDP on defence is inadequate. Filipinos need to hold their government to account for the amount of corruption or incompetence in their naval procurement programs. Austal is one of the current contractors for new coastguard vessels. Austal has just been fined 24 million by the American DoJ for corruption. Go figure. That is why Filipinos haven’t got proper equipment to defend what they want to claim.

Yeah that's kind of sad. But CBS is large enough that individual reporters can get their own stories published. I'm sure that the establishment would wish for someone with the strength of Trump, but with less of the buffoon. Unfortunately those leaders come around only a couple times a century. We either get over the top buffoons or we get weak bureaucratic pansies these days. Last century we had Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson (a bit of a buffoon), Reagan (much beloved), then a series of bureaucrats like George Bush (ultimate bureaucrat), Clinton (who gave China most favored nation trading status and loaded them with wealth) etc. Now we have the k-mart, retirement home versions of the bureaucrats that didn't even measure up the old bureaucrats and don't by any standard measure up to our greatest leaders. A sign of the times really.

At brainthesizeofplanet. For Putin’s Russia invading Ukraine is not correct. For the South China Sea, the territories need to resolve with a treaty respectfully. Sabina Shoal. In 2016, an international tribunal at The Hague ruled that the Philippines has exclusive economic rights in a 200 miles zone that includes Sabina Shoal at the area where the ship from the Philippines was rammed. China doesn’t recognize the tribunal ruling and says the South China Sea has been China’s territory since ancient times. So here we are with the conflict which CLEARLY SHOULD BE RESOLVED in international court where a TREATY can be drafted. On 19 February 2013, China declared that it would not participate in the arbitration. On 7 December 2014, it published a white paper to elaborate its position that, among other points, the tribunal lacks jurisdiction. In accordance with Article 3 of Annex VII of UNCLOS, the Philippines appointed 1 of the 5 arbitrators, while China did not appoint any. On 29 October 2015, the tribunal concluded that it had jurisdiction to consider seven of the Philippines' submissions, subject to certain conditions, and postponed the consideration of its jurisdiction on the other eight submissions to the merits phase. The tribunal ruling has no teeth. That’s not a mutually agreed ruling. Therefore this MUST BE RESOLVED DIPLOMATICALLY. No territory is going to relinquish claims just like that. Makes no sense. No wonder China was aggressive with the Philippines. The Philippines government didn’t play fair and China was too aggressive. All territories should be involved in the treaty to solve this dilemma.

The CCP is already conducting military operations and acts of war, building bases and conquering islands that don't belong to them, even building islands. Harassing and attacking ships in international waters is just a cherry on top. They will keep escalating until war erupts, but by that time, they have had time to build bases and prepare so the sooner America finds its balls the better the outcome will be in a military conflict. No one in their right mind can think the CCP is doing these things with peace and stability in mind, they are inching and preparing for war!

Nobody in the world wants to have a war at that scale with China. But China is heavily miscalculating by poking the bear (USA alliances). China economy is very weak right now, and they’ve already made the West not want to invest with them. On the one hand they are trying desperately to get Western investment and business commitment, but on the other hand they are running around destabilizing Asia. I suspect they are counting on keeping the USA out of it for now by China giving USA intelligence and selling influence on Russia and Iran.

This is not just a ramming. It is a calculated move by China tĺo make Philippines pull the first trigger. They want something to happen here as a dress rehearsal for Taiwan. They want war for these reasons: 1. Train their soldiers in real combat prepping for Taiwan. 2. As a much needed uniting factor for their domestic audience because they are experiencing a shrinking economy and brewing civil unrest. If they have a "common enemy" that will distract their people from their internal problems. 3. They picked Philippines to be an example to Asean because they think the Philippines is "easy and dumb". So they can gaslight and say that the Philippines started the war by being a "puppet for the US" even though they had already planned it long before. It is all calculated. 4. They want to test the response of the US.

China asserts the South China Sea through a Historical claim. However, the fact remains that ancient maps from the Song Dynasty in the year 960 until the end of the Qing Dynasty in the 20th century, shows China's territorial claims ends in the Hainan island to the south. No ancient documents justifying China’s claim goes beyond those island. Moreover, the historical map of Murillo Velarde of 1696-1753 disproves China’s claim but instead strengthens further the claim of the Philippines. This was all presented and revealed in the proceedings at the 2016 Arbitral Court at The Hague which ruled in favor of the Philippines and nullified China’s “9 dash line” claim over the South China Sea. Chinese scholars and legal experts knew of this predicament of proving historical claims. This is why China refused to participate in the proceedings stating instead that the court has no jurisdiction over it. To counter the Philippines victory, China comes out with a new “10 dash line” claim over the Sea and uses military superiority and bullying against the Philippines to achieve their goal. This is a simple act of China’s greed.

Very different. Japan 🇯🇵 didn’t own the South China Sea 🌊 since ancient times.

They would absolutley 100% without doubt attack it. For good reason too. That area is their lifeline to crude oil imports. So, unless you want WW3, best to not get too close. The South China Sea is such a major economic trade route for them its of utmost importance for them to keep it as clear of danger as possible. We know this. So we stay clear. The problem is they share the area with other countries. (Countries China does not trust one bit) But China is the biggest one, they kinda get the final say in the matter sadly. Just the way it goes.

I would be embarrassed to have my military behaving like China's. Ramming and attacking other boats with spears and bladed weapons? Acting like undisciplined pirates rather than a professional military. They would get destroyed in an armed conflict.

The Chinese Coast Guard and Navy would not mess with US Sailors & Marines. They are good at being bullies, but they are untested combatants. That's why they're trying to subvert US culture and institutions from within. They hunger for victory, but have no taste for metal and blood.

They're intentionally treading the line and continually trying to push it back further. Aggression as you would expect from a traditional navy would likely trigger a US response, so naturally they're getting creative.

I agree, it's the same with the Indian & Pakistani armies clashing with melee weapons. Or even you can see it in Gaza, where Israel's military has for so long trained purely for putting down small uprisings and are so rabidly doused in ideological propaganda that when they get into their conflict zone they jump straight to shooting at random people, like each other or the hostages they're supposed to be rescuing. An unprofessional army leads to rampant blue on blue casualties and a lack of coordination and that leads to having low rates of success. You can see it in the US invasion of Iraq, where there were large numbers of blue on blue incidents. Treating killing as a game leads to failure, imo

China has missiles that can reach guam and parts of the continental US. They have the capability to saturate with missiles the entire Philippine archipelago. To say that they get angry because the Philippines is planning to acquire mid-range missiles is like pointing a gun to someone and get angry when that someone points a gun back at you.

Have Ukraine provoking Russia for war, now have Philippine provoking China for war, why is US always so warmongering? Lying media don't seem to mention, prior to Chinese coast guard patrolling the area, Philippine patrols were ramming and killing Chinese fishman in South China Sea, the latest incident in May, 2013, left the captain dead and multiple wounded, 52 holes on the ship. Tell me when is the last time Chinese coast guard shoot a Philippine ship?

China is slowly collapsing thanks to the incompetence of its leadership. They implement dramatic policies with all the finesse of hard-hitting the brakes on a car going 120 miles an hour. Suddenly ending "Zero Covid", banning private teachers, cracking down on the tech industry, cracking down on the housing sector..........it's just been one self-inflicted injury after another done with zero finesse. What is the point of "Muh Security" if your "Security" measures create LESS security?

I’m sorry but the 60 minutes reporter asking the defense minister about US supplied missiles sounded imbecilic and pathetic. Does China check with the Philippines about its deployment of ships or missiles? Does 60 minutes have producers and or editors that think about the list of questions to be asked? Since when has 60 Minutes decided to be a tool of communist China?

many of them in asia won't build up a military because the know the USA will just defend them if needed. the PH has no money for a military. but plenty of other countries in SE asia county have a good size military (taiwan, korea, japan). it's just nuts that the U.S. taxpayer has to fund defending the world. none of them could take on china alone. they would have to have a unified military (taiwan, vietnam, philippines, korea, japan, indonesia, malaysia). every country in SE asia (including india) hates china except cambodia, laos and thailand.
