Rubbish - bulk buying enables a price reduction. If we manufactured in Australia, we would use more gas and it would be cheaper, but to whom would we sell our products ? On a scale on 1 to 10, the honesty of our politicians would be at least a 5. You can tell by their decisions.

If we are prepared to leave thousands of years worth of coal and gas’s in the ground we better start working on a defence force capable of protecting us against countries who would see it as their right to take it off us, did anyone say China?
@petert24turner716 ай бұрын
With regular maintenance, coal/gas fired power stations will last 50 plus years where a wind turbine is a maximum of 20 years, plus solar panels after 20 years have degraded approximately 50% of their original output. The cost of replacing wind turbines way exceeds the cost of constructing a coal/gas powerplant in the long term for the same energy output. Then there is the disposal of wind generators, mostly made of toxic materials. Power stations are made of steel & cement which is recyclable.

The problem is, Australia keeps letting other countries "own" our gas supplies and sell it to other countries while Australia gets bugger all financial benefit from it. Eg: Barrow Island (Gorgon), Onslow (Wheatstone) which are both Chevron owned and run on Western Australian soil. Head east and theres 3 gas plants on Curtis Island off Queensland owned by foreign companies. Its a disgrace.

@@ThatGuy-ze5kk When fossil fuels are burned, they release large amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, into the air. Greenhouse gases trap heat in our atmosphere, causing global warming. Already the average global temperature has increased by 1C. Warming above 1.5°C risks further sea level rise, extreme weather, biodiversity loss and species extinction, as well as food scarcity, worsening health and poverty for millions of people worldwide. The increase in temperature and the increase in CO2 is physically observable.

Even if I was loony enough to agree with most of what you said, the fact is that Australia produces less than 1% of the worlds greenhouse gas. We have more than enough vegetation to negate that, so we are already below net zero and even if we stopped all fossil fuels tomorrow it would have zero effect on the climate.
