I remember watching the 500s pulling the afternoon pass over the Oaklands RR crossing back in 1967 when I was only 12. They were obviously very new back then. I will have to catch 507 at Goolwa sometime soon. Thanks for sharing this.

3x a week a 500 would run light engine (no cars) from Adelaide to Belair in the early 1980s. Chugging past my place @ Lynton on the steep grade. It took the passenger car & 1 brakevan from the Mt Gambier mixed to Adelaide Station, while the loco that hauled the train (usually a 930) took the several freight cars & second brake van to Mile End goods yard. A very interesting & forgotten arrangement.

I used to travel from Emerson to Adelaide the to Port Adelaide on Red Hens with my Grandfather in the 60s and used to see the 500s and the 830 class all the time down that way.
