I'm Romanian and we had a referendum in 2018 about changing the constitution to stipulate that "marriage is a union between a man and a woman". The Social Democrats supported it, the National Liberals didn't care, the liberal liberals were against it and the Christian Nationalist that are now the Christian Nationalists didn't exist yet. The referendum passed in favour of the change but voter turnout was 21% which was under the required 30%. While most people are against same-sex marriage and LGBT stuff in general here because, well, its the BALKANS most didn't care enough to go vote. The Statute Law does not allow same-sex marriage nor civil unions nor gender-change. If the referendum would've passed it would have put the double-lock on same-sex marriages and would have prevented the state of recognizing same-sex marriages done in other countries.

You will rarely find LGBT teens or LGBT groups in general because if they would make this public they would instantly get harassed on the street. And for being a very religious country the Religious Leaders have a really big degree of power. A few months ago 13 Religious Organizations with the Orthodox Church at the head sent a petition to he government requesting them not not include any pro-LGBT agendas in the new Education Law and the government listened.

We had discussions about what was happening (I was 10 at the time, however) and I thought that it was not only crazy this hadn't happened yet, but also I remember thinking the "Yes" vote won substanially. It was a frustrating time in Australia with a conservative government that was completely out of touch with societal expectations....the reason they went for a plebiscite was that they thought that their view was the majority......that is how delusional they were. Self proclaimed "Moral Majorities" usually are neither. In Australia's defence we had civil unions which were nearly the same and had recognition in most other legislation such as wills, property after relationship breakdown etc.

There are some sadly very conservative aspects to Australian society. In the state of Tasmania, being gay was illegal until 1997. Not gay marriage, being gay itself was a criminal offence.

@@moskaumaster1594 Considering the number of autistic people worldwide is estimated to be between 1 in 50 and 1 in 40 and that many of us (including me) are not gay, bi, trans, ace, etc, that is a shocking misrepresentation. There are more LGBTQ+ people as a portion of the autistic population than the average, but 100% is not at all likely. 'Always' is a dangerous word to throw around.

@@drunkenhobo8020 I would be more worried if stats showed autistic people were 20 times more likely to have gender dysphoria. Most of the studies I've been finding have been seeing the rate of autism within the LGBT+ community and not the other way around.

@@JERealize But that effectively was what the study showed. Autistic kids tend to be less comfortable in their own skin so they get told they must be trans as a way to "fix" this. But of course it doesn't.
