A montage of pics taken inside the park in 2005. Prior to the demolition but after it was closed. Set to some emotional music.

I was a ride operator at Wonderland Sydney, between 1996 and 1999, working the Demon, Bush Beast, Space Probe and other rides. Best job ever, entertaining the kids and all, and seeing so many happy faces. All the cares in the world just melted away. I miss the place so much...

What a damn shame Australia's Wonderland went into receivership and and was sold and left in disrepair. This was the place where childhood dreams did come true for the kiddie winks. The sound of talk and laughter from the children, the sight of families truly enjoying themselves and forgetting about their lives in the city. It was a wonderful wonderland away from the everything. When I lived in Sydney, my friends and I always went there to get away from our jobs and hectic lives in the city. We would ride all the rides, our favorite ride was the wooden roller coaster and this other ride which I think was the cat and mouse??? We would spend the whole day there reliving our childhood and just being big kids. The theme Hanna & Barbera Wonderland was aptly named. When I return to Sydney, (the city that would either make me or break me, it made made me) very soon after 40 years in self imposed exile, I will really miss this truly special icon. Looking at a recent photo of where the park once stood, my heart sank and felt like a blade had ripped through it; because this generation of new little ones will never know the meaning of true fun and laughter and joy of what being a child was all about. I was only 16 yrs of age when the park opened and that feeling of being there a few days after opening day was a huge thrill. If there were plans to rebuild, I would 110% support calls for the re- building of this iconic Australian property. This property should never have been sold to overseas Asian investors. They own too much of us. WHY NOT A BIG SHOUT OUT THERE TO ALL SYDNEY SIDERS AND ALL NATIONALLY TO SUPPORT ANOTHER, BIGGER, BETTER, HANNA & BARBERA WONDERLAND USING THE ORIGINAL BLUEPRINTS AND ADDING ADDITIONAL FEATURES. 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎼🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪

Wow! I see the Zodiac and the sky ride! Both of those rides came from Kings Island here in Mason Ohio! I have ridden both many times as a kid. The Zodiac was broken for the entire 1986 season. It was after 1986 that the Zodiac was sent to Australia's Wonderland. Your park there in Sydney was owned by Taft Broadcasting and Taft kept that park when a new company formed and took over ownership of Taft and became KECO. ( Kings Entertainment Company) based in Cincinnati Ohio. I was working there during that time and was a teen during this time. Kings Island still exists today and is now owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment whom owns Cedar Point Amusement park about 200 miles north of Kings Island in Sandusky Ohio. Both of these Ohio parks do big business and both will be here for many years to come! If you get a chance to visit us here in Ohio, please make sure to spend a few days at these parks! You will love it. Ohio is home of the most roller coasters in any one state. Be ready to ride and fly!

even more depressing than seeing old photos of Wonderland in its mayday and hearing all about it is the fact that they are building a new WetnWild on it's grounds :( Makes me sad because even though I never got the opportunity to experience it myself, I'd love to see it returned to its former glory days and it reopened to the public to have a chance to experience it, it looks like it was amazing :(

im crying...i was only there when i was almost 4 as my dad use to work as security there... and it was for the final christmas party that was held for the workers there in 2003... i dont have many memories sadly of being there. i remember my mum going on the pirate ship, and my brother and dad going down the water slides and i cried because i wasnt big enough to go on it. but im mostly crying now because of one of the memories i do have of the snowy river rampage, to know i was there when i was 3... :(

I think if you were a kid and were lucky enough to experience Wonderland, you were very privileged, and well before the mass takeover of the smartphone era we now live in, when times were more innocent. I also miss Wonderland, so many great memories I had there growing up as a kid and exploring that amazing and marvellous playground. It's sad to see these photos now.

This video bought back so many happy childhood memories, so sad to see a place i remember as pure fun & amazing abandoned & falling apart. My fave part was old town section (can't remember what it was called), I'm completely shocked after many years of fear & panic to see how shallow the river rampage actually was. I used to think it was bottomless, i loved it but was terrified of falling out and drowning. lol. Now iv'e seen it empty i feel like a real dope. We lost a great place when it closed.

Were there also animals at the park?
@djstonedog2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Several years after the park opened they added a small Aussie Wildlife section that was sort of self-contained...meaning if you only wanted to see the native animals (koalas, lizards, wombats and other smaller aussie mammals, birds and reptiles etc) but not pay for the rest of the park you could pay a smaller fee to just visit that section because it also had its own entrance off the main cark park. The wildlife zone was mostly just busloads full of (usually) Japanese tourists who had no interest in the main theme park but just wanted a photo with a koala. In the 80s the camera-toting japanese tourist taking endless photos was a well-known cliched stereotype at the time. Australia was spending millions on Oz tourism promotion in Japan in the 80's and early 90s hence why there were so Japanese tourists visiting back then
