Ivan Milat was a twisted killer, who prayed on vulnerable backpackers in the Australian wilderness. But was Milat born to kill or did his upbringing and troubled life, lead him down a path of murder? Australia's worst solo serial killer, is now serving life for the murders of seven hitchhiking backpackers between 1989 and 1992. Featuring interviews with his family, a criminal psychologist, his boss, an anthropologist and criminal profiler, police, prosecuting attorney and authors.

That's why I'm glad to live in the US! The cops in some other countries aren't even armed! It's pathetic! They are looked as a joke by our cops! It's argued that our cops are too violent. Well, I'd much rather have cops who can actually protect me that are violent than cops that aren't even and and most certainly can't fight(I've witnessed this myself many times in various countries). I don't know what grounds are required to get a warrant in their countries but isn't chasing someone in your vehicle and shooting at them enough? They can't go farther than 300 feet? I've watched cops here repel down cliffs! How pathetic! What a waste of their citizens money!

I just watched a tiktok video of a girl telling a story about her mother. Apparently her mum and her friends ditched school one day because it was really hot and they wanted to have some fun. They were tired at the end of the day and had no way to get home…. So, they hitchhiked. They were waiting and waiting and waiting, until finally, a car pulled over. Her mum climbed into the front and her friends in the back. She said that as soon as they got in the car they all got this big gut feeling. Something was wrong, very, very, wrong. So her mum started talking. “You know I think your niece goes to the same school I do, a year behind me.” “My father is the chief sergeant and he said that he saw a car like this the other day on the job and it would be a nice car for my first.” Little things like that, just trying to make a connection between the two of them. They didn’t know he was a serial killer at this point, but they knew something was seriously wrong. So wrong that her friend was shaking uncontrollably in the back, frozen up. Eventually he pulled over and said “I think all you girls should get out.” And they did. Flash forward and her mum is on the police force. She was only on the force for a few years, but during this time, the bodies were recovered, and he was arrested…. And she recognized him…. (I forgot to mention that they were about seventeen.)

Young people can be way too trusting. People, never ever get into a car with someone you don't know. Rest in peace to all the young people who lost their lives, and deepest sympathies to their parents and families. Also, I do not buy the idea that someone is "born to kill." A human being always has a choice as to how he or she behaves. Plenty of people who grew up poor, in large familues, turned out to be good, honest, caring, decent human beings.

its not crap, but its also not complete. serial killers tend to have a combination of head injury, mental illness or trauma or all three. Nature fills the keg with powder, mental illness places the fuse and trauma lights it, generally at least. sometimes you get folks like Milat or Bundy who are just that way from the start. Bundy was what, 5, when he started acting in a threatening manner towards his family? he put knives in a ring around his aunt while she was sleeping, pointing in. The only thing wrong with Bundy's upbringing is because of the stigma against unwed mothers his grandparents raised him to think his mother was his sister and they were his parents.

Back when i was about 20 years old, my 16 year old nephew and i were out driving up a highway in the middle of nowhere up in New Hampshire. We came upon a young girl, about 12 years old who was hitching by herself wearing a belly shirt and very short shorts. My nephew talked me out of stopping for her because he was afraid she might report us for doing something inappropriate with her whether we did or not. But later, i felt regret for not picking her up, because at least we could have been sure to deliver her somewhere safely. I am 65 now, and the vision of that girl on the highway still bothers me. All i could do is hope and pray that she never became a victim to someone with less scruples than we had. My nephew would have never done anything wrong with her, even if she provoked it, but he was simply afraid the young girl could get us in trouble regardless of what did or did not go on because the idea of killing her would have never been considered by either of us.

Nobody is "making excuses" for him or any other murderers. Understanding more details about the backgrounds and upbringings of people who commit these types of crimes, as well as any traumatic experiences that could've contributed to their psychopathic behaviors, is extremely important. It's not only informative but also helps the viewer gain a deeper insight as to who the person was before they became known for their awful crimes. But saying that Australian serial killers (and killers worldwide) tend to share commonalities such as rough upbringings, childhood abuse, trauma, etc. is a statistical fact and is not the equivalent of using those commonalities to make excuses/justify any of their actions

There is a lot of noise these days but your brain/body still reaches out and tries to warn you if you’re listening. I’ve felt the atmosphere change right before a gun came out from someone who had been acting totally cool and friendly. It was an intense feeling. Probably from subconsciously picking up on some change in body language, breathing or whatever but I think there’s more than that. Maybe waves from the brain or pheromones signaling bad intentions all the sudden like.

Most people in the U.S. do not realize that Australia makes great horror films, and they are more brutal than horror films you see in the U.S.. The movies loosely based on this guy were Wolf Creek 1 & 2. Wolf Creek 1 is like a normal horror movie, but gets kinda brutal near the end, but Wolf Creek 2 is just crazy, but both are great movies. Some of these serial killers are good actors and can pretend to be nice and civil at first. People looking for a lift wouldn't see the real Ivan until it was too late. As for how he managed to overcome them, well we have the example of Paul Onions. Onions said Ivan pulled a gun on him. When somebody pulls a gun on you, it's hard to do anything else but comply. 9 out of 10 people would be too shocked. There was one bullet hole found in his car. Some theorise maybe the young German guy (Gabor) resisted and Ivan fired. This then persuaded Gabor to stop resisting. Paul Onions acted quickly and was able to run and get help.

I am 65 now, and the vision of that girl on the highway still haunts me.

From the backpacks found at his property, to the unquestioning loyalty (all of theirs), to just how he answered the question about lying. Not to mention that there was more than one individual that stated they were confident more than one person was involved and by the end of the interview, that person looked like his brother. But there’s always another side to every story and time helped quell those suspicions it seems, at least for the most part. But he did not do himself any favors with that interview.

Rawest Channel......this is an epidemic in policing in general “LAZY”, your observation is BANG on.....many members understand this but unfortunately they just acquiesce to this toxic culture. Instead of doing their jobs differently and better they just ask for more money. Forgive the rant ..stay safe folks🙏🏻

How come that when an african , latino or asian speaks perfect english they provide captions and not when a "first hand" speaker mumbles all over the video?. The producers should be seriously working in trying to attract people, from all over the globe, to watch their shows. My most profound condolences to these families. Greetings from Toronto.

He didn't "pray" on any one, unless it was after they were dead. He did PREY on backpackers. LOL. Who proof reads these articles. I see crap like that and worse, all over the place, even in publications that are supposed to be professionally run.

I'm here after watching a gal's story of her mum n her friend escaping from this beast. My feel sorry for the victims. Always remember y'all no hitchhiking no matter wt, don't get into strangers car, always carry a weapon(knife or pepperspray), learn self defense. Ps: the gal's mum n her friend pretended to be annoying like rambling n also claimed one of their dad was a cop so he was pissed n told them to get out of the car.

Appears so, some names seem familiar and the story line. Seems they were already acting out some fantasy.

No that was peter and Joanne in the year 2001. 2 British back packers, Peter was killed and Joanne spent time in prison after police believed she killed him, or was involved. She’s released now, wasn’t her that killed him. It was another man, if you google it the results come up x
