Give Pat Cummins the ICC cricketer of the year award already. He began 2023 with question marks over his captaincy and whether he could handle the burden overseas. A WTC win, a successful defence in an away Ashes series, a World Cup win in some of the most testing conditions for a fast bowler, and finally a 3-0 whitewash of Pakistan, orchestrated by himself. Pakistan bowled well, fielded well, and only a few wickets stopped it being 100% their day. The catch from Rizwan was brilliant off wrong foot. Masood looked so classy and comfortable, he is starting to enjoy batting on faster Australia pitches. Shafique has a solid technique that should stand up to different conditions around the world. Those Aust seamers are so good.
