To the international viewers: Australians are unique in that we favour a " multi level comparison" insult method when confronted by idiocy. You'll notice that Aussies will " taste test" a number of epithets until we find the right one for the situation: defining the LEVEL of idiocy seen is VERY important and we want to our response to be the most suitable.

By watching these videos I've learnt that most drivers (be they in the right or wrong) have absolutely shithouse reaction times. I've also learnt from KZbin that we Australians don't know what the amber light means (does the rule vary between states like the U-turn at traffic lights rule?) Hint (NSW): A yellow (amber) light means you must stop. You can only go through a yellow light if you cannot stop safely before the 'Stop' line. 😁

Just because you have the right of way, doesn't mean you shouldn't still watch for oncoming and incoming traffic. Its always good to be aware of cars around, someone might be going through a red light, or speeding, or don't know the laws well enough themselves. Anything to avoid a crash is good

I have a lot of respect for the professionalism required to drive a truck, but that one was a bit much. While I would like to think if I were the car I would've anticipated it, I think it's highly likely the car driver didn't even see the truck, let alone anticipate the truck was attempting a U-turn on a busy multi lane road traffic light intersection. From the car driver's perspective, they had a green light: no where in car driver training do drivers get taught to watch out for big trucks doing U-turns from out of nowhere when the light turns green for you.

Here in America: Small fender bender happens, and both parties refuse to move their vehicles to the side of the road and stay in the middle of a 10 lane super highway because they believe CSI is going to be called to take photos and collect evidence. Australia: driver's Jeep is forced to perform an involuntary barrel roll. "My bad, let me get my jeep out of the road way so as to not be a nuisance to other drivers".

It’s because in many areas it was required that you not move your car until photos were taken for insurance purposes. Since our country is so litigious we have to worry about lawsuits constantly so proving fault is very important. Many states are changing laws to say move over if safe to do so but it’s a problem due to insurance and lawyers not because we don’t care about other people on the road…

But that does not change the legality of it. Running a yellow is an offence, and you should be charged for it. Being a police officer, you should know this. Maybe start issuing tickets for those running yellows? Start with the ones that enter on yellow, and exit on red, it'd be pretty hard for them to prove they couldn't stop safely unless there's a truck up their ass the whole time.

ah.. i was waiting for this one.. i thought the same, but to to be honest it is the one going straight that should be the problem, because the one turning right should have more right of way than going straight. when taking a right turn, we often wait for the oncoming traffic. you'd expect the on-coming traffic to slow down as you make the right turn.

Good advice. 👍 Here's a bit of advice on written English in return: you don't need to bother adding an apostrophe ( ' ) before the S in Dads, years, or sons. The apostrophe is used to indicate possession ("the bike is Dave's") or omission/contraction (don't = do not, hasn't = has not, etc.), if you want to make a noun plural you can just chuck an S on the end, no apostrophe required. Hopefully this saves you some time and effort in future! :)

gonna go ahead and copy my other comment explaining this one: "gonna hit you guys with some cheeky maths. The start of one line to the next line is 12.5m apart, there was two lines before the solid line so he had about 45m when the light went yellow, moving at 63km/h or 17.5m/s, so he had traversed another ~5 meters before being physically able to react to the light (assuming perfect .25s reaction time), so roughly 40 meters remaining to stop. The minimum safe stopping distance for a light vehicle moving at 63km/h is about 27 meters in optimal conditions, so yes he absolutely could have stopped safely. More realistically, lets give him 1 second to react. Stopping distance goes up to about 40m, so a margin of ~5m. Maintaining speed for 3 seconds, he gets through the lights. Now on the turning vehicle... they also had a yellow light, were moving slower and had the same time to respond to the yellow light, but is also legally required to stop until the opposing through traffic is past. Now here is the kicker: the speed limit on that road is 70km/h. The lights are on a 5 second cycle to accommodate this. The expected stopping distance for this intersection should be about 70 meters."

4:10…good to see the rider stand up after that. At which point you walk up to the drivers door if the car and say; “Jeez mate, I’m glad you survived that crash…I’d hate you to miss the beating I’m about to give you…” The semis? About right for the “standard” you see from truck drivers these days. Thirty plus years ago when I was taught to drive, there WAS no such thing as this mystical excuse-for-everything “blind spot”. Our instructors drummed into us that of you couldn’t SEE, if you weren’t SURE, then you DIDN’T GO. nowadays drivers seem to be convinced that literally everywhere except for a tiny window directly ahead of their eyes is a blind spot…they don’t turn their heads, check their mirrors, move around in the seat to get a better angle on the mirrors, etc etc. They just go, and everyone else has to get out of their way.

My idea. UTE's of puck-up trucks as they're called elsewhere, vetter be banner , of maybe restricted in speed (of power). It's not only in Australië, but also in de US, Canada and elsewhere that they're overnumbered in accidents...

Weird one. You can see the brake lights but even a fully loaded truck should stop faster than that. Maybe the car was under the front wheels?

I know I'm late, but to me this looks like it might be brake fade. Brakes can overheat (especially on downhills and while carrying heavy loads), rendering them basically useless. Either that or the driver was passed out I guess.

Most of the roundabout crashes could have been avoided if people could be bothered to use their indicators
@TheTruePhoenixAU
@TheTruePhoenixAU 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the crashes had nothing to do with indicators. They were either people turning right from the left hand lane or people trying to blow through the round-about with-out looking and hitting into the side of the vehicle already in the round-about. The indicators seem pretty irrelevant in either case. Not saying people shouldn't use them, obviously you should, just that it seems an weird take away from most of the accidents they showed in this video where indicators didn't play a factor at all.
@AnotherDoug

When entering a roundabout, you must give way to any vehicle already on the roundabout. Use of indicators is irrelevant to that rule.

Driver's license exams should really include an IQ-test. If you end up below 90 you only get your license for 1 year and taken away at the first sign of fault during a road accident.
@RobertSmith-bc9uk
@RobertSmith-bc9uk 3 жыл бұрын
@Joy L Not a bad idea, but I have seen a lot who's IQ is above 105 who shouldn't be on the road. Heck my IQ is 136 (as per the proper Mensa test) but I went through my "hoon" period where I was "ten foot tall and bullet proof". That was until I ended up in Wagga Base Hospital in a critical condition and in a coma and woke up to the fact i was actually "five foot nine and a half and shot full of holes".

Or just have a proper licensing scheme, not like the lack of one we have now, that's a joke, might as well get your licence at a raffle. The way it works, for anyone unaware, is that at 16 you drive uncle dave to the nearest bws for a bottle of wild turkey and a pack of winni blue's, you do that enough, so that when you're 18 (or near 18 in some states) you sit in a car with an ''instuctor'' you drive around the block, maybe do a 3 point turn, and bam, you're fully licenced, good to go mate. Look up what it takes to get your licence in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or any other sane country....We also have some of the longest roads, and some 14 lane freeways with 60-80 kph speedlimits....(but insane 80-100 kph speed limits on some of the windiest, narrowest, most slippery mountain roads, because screw any sense or logic) Also back when i did my motorcycle test, i filled out a written test that consisted of multiple choice questions, not unlike : You arrive at a crossing. You see people crossing. You : a, accelerate b, go by but try not to hit anyone or c, you stop. and i'm only slightly exaggerating. Then you go around a closed course at 10kph, and do a high intensity ''emergency braking'' test, from a whopping 25kmh. Then off you go. Ride away mate. When i did mine, there was a woman who stalled maybe 3 dozen times, dropped the bike twice and for good measure, panicked and accelerated it up a metal fence. No worries tho, she passed :) The LICENSING IS THE PROBLEM. And converting anybody's overseas licences to an Australian one without ANY testing?! Insanity.
